It looks like this is the new place. The original joint is nothing like what is seen in the NYT pic.

Yes, that's the relatively new place in the Essex St. Market. I've eaten lunch there a couple of times, and have seen them throw people out who take too long to order as well as not seat any parties greater than 4.

I haven't been to the current place and never made it to the first one, but ate at the second place in the West Village a few times. All the wacky stories are true, but I gather that the first version where it was just a few tables set up in a corner grocery was the most interesting incarnation.

I own the DVD AND I bought the cookbook. I watch this about once a year. LOVE it.

Didn't know there was a cookbook. Was it mentioned in the documentary? I dozed off for a bit. What's the name of the book? Thanks!
