A Taiwan food blogger has been sentenced to 30 days imprisonment (later suspended) and a US$6,900 damages bill after an unfavourable review on her blog.

She blogged that the food in a beef noodle restaurant was too salty and that the hygiene was not up to scratch. The owner pressed charges for defamation (a criminal offense in Taiwan).

The story is here.

What are the other risks of food blogging?

Being thought of as a world-class squid-head.

Taiwan's libel laws are stricter than most -- the law was used to punish anti-KMT sentiment during CKS's heyday. But all of that has been largely dismantled. The food scene is Taiwan is AMAZING, so it's no doubt that there is a lively home-grown food blogging scene.
