  1. Beer with Clamato or preferably Clamato Preparado!!! My favorite way to enjoy beer.
  2. Once I got a (replacement) laundry tub for my birthday. Admittedly it was at my request. It was a bit of a job for the non-handyman husband but it turned out beautifully. The only hitch was getting rid of the decades old tub which was made of concrete. I won't give away his secret since he didn't get caught at it.
  3. No, did not this time. I may use some rye to feed going forward.
  4. My new sourdough starter in growing nicely. Today's recipe is KAF Sourdough Sandwich bread.
  5. I freeze all my breads. KAF (and Amazon) sells bread bags in various sizes...they are very good quality and keep the breads well; I slice before freezing.
  6. I have to admit that I really like tilapia except when I've bought some in the store that tasted like mold. The restaurant tilapiia I’ve had was great so I don't know why this happens.
  7. I have been bingeing with bread lately. Almost every day I've made a loaf of something or other. I ran across this recipe from King Arthur Flour and can't stop thinking about it. I don't have the rum extract so it will have to wait for a trip to the grocery store but I'll definitely be baking it very soon.
  8. Only two things I can say I really hate; liver and hominy...from childhood. Anything else I'll at least give it a try.
  9. I'd have to get to it before the dog did.
  10. Wow! .Orgeat? I've been inspired by your evening MaiTais and have been enjoying mine of late. However , I use Mr. and Mrs. T mix, with a shot of Myer's Rum and a big splash of pineapple juice. jJust right for me. i tried making my own mix but it just wasn't right to my taste. This one hits the spot.
  11. Sometimes things just stick. Just give it good scrubbing with BarKeeper's Friend.
  12. Question for @Ann_T My KAF starter arrived yesterday and I followed their directions to begin; mix starter with ¼ cup warm water, mix, then add 2 cups AP and another 8 oz. warm water. Can I add the rye flour today when I'm going to begin with step 2. " . Stir the starter and measure out 4 ounces (about 1/2 cup) to feed. The remaining starter (called “discard”) can be thrown away or used in recipes calling for sourdough discard. To the 4 ounces (about 1/2 cup), add 4 ounces (1/2 cup) water and 4 ounces (1 scant cup) flour. Stir well, cover, and let sit until the starter bubbles and increases in volume, about 6 to 8 hours." If so, will there be any benefit or is it irrelevant now?

    Dinner 2019

Some time ago I made Asparagus Risotto in the Instantpot and it was just amazingly good. Today while in town I picked up some nice asparagus and a package of Arborio rice and plan on making it again tomorrow. I got some baby arugula to serve it with and some leeks to add to the rice. I also got some Orange Cranberyy muffins, a breakfast guilty indulgence.
  14. Today's Italian Hearth Bread (from KAF). I'm pretty impressed with the new covered baker!
  15. I will never again step out of my car in an icy grocery store parking lot without checking to see if there's ice under my foot! Did that the other morning and foot slid forward and I slid down the door. Fortunately I was still close to the door so I could brace myself and didn't fall backward. Just embarrassed and dirty and wet. Not a good way to start my day.

    Dinner 2019

Homemade chili was very good; I used Bush's Chili Beans instead of kidney beans for the first time and I like them better. Served with Jiffy cornmeal muffins. Plenty of leftovers for the cold and snowy days ahead.
  17. Had to throw away my sourdough starter, it looked just too far gone to try to revive. No matter, thanks to KAF a new container is on its way, due on Tuesday. Looking forward to some good sourdough sandwich bread.
  18. The finished No-Knead Harvest Bread.
  19. I got a new covered baker from Amazon. I've been having a baking frenzy lately; the winter weather makes me want to make bread and the aroma of fresh baked bread just makes me happy. I made eight Potato-Onion Rye Rolls yesterday and they are ever so good. I'll be having some ham and cheese and mustard on a roll for lunch today. I made the dough last night for No-Knead Harvest Bread which I'll bake off later today. I hope I have enough room in the freezer for all this.

    Breakfast 2019

Breakfast today is a toasted English muffin with a drizzle of honey and smeared with peanut butter.
  21. I looked up this recipe and re-sized it by 2/3 to fit my 9” pan de mie. I'm currently out of white flour but should have some in a day or so. I"m eager to try it!
  22. Since I mostly cook for just myself, I find I use my 3 Qt. much more than the 6Qt. Even so, 3 quarts ends up being a lot of leftovers which I like.
  23. I have the smaller (9”) Pan de mie and I use the KAF recipe as well. Mine comes out very nicely. Could it be your oven? Or the placement in the oven?

    Dinner 2019

Thanks for that link, I’ve saved that recipe...it looks SO good!
  25. Made a nice loaf of Cinnamon Raisin Bread (KAF recipe) today. Looking forward to toast for breakfast. A super slow riser even using SAF Gold for sweetened doughs.
