    Dinner 2026

We went to lunch the other day at an Amish restaurant in a town not too far away from us. After lunch we stopped at the Amish meat market. It's a really great place -- they raise and make and sell all kinds of meats, sausages, bierocks etc. I was grabbing some German sausages when I noticed they had boudin! I was very interested to try Amish boudin so I bought a package thinking that if it was really good I'd go back and get more for my mom and stepdad (stepdad is Cajun). The other night we had breakfast for dinner so we could try it out. I think they have a very different idea about what boudin is...or the package was mislabeled lol. These were pork...so pork was the first ingredient listed, rice was second. The white dots might have been rice but....I feel like no rice was harmed in the making of this "boudin" lol. It tasted really good, but it was more like a spicier German sausage 🤣. Anyway, now I know what Amish boudin is. Ronnie's birthday was Wednesday. He requested fried gizzards and livers and a nice salad. I also made a small chocolate sheet cake --that's his favorite. \\ Last night I made beef short ribs in the IP. I got them from Misfits. Kinda pricey but I needed something fun and different to make. Mashed cauliflower potatoes and collards to go with
  2. Yay for Instacart! I wish we had that around here sometimes. Everything looks delicious--as usual! Especially that dressing. I want. PS--the non-bolding of the cornbread dressing would have made me bat-s*** crazy. You're a saint to have not said anything 🤣 Cornbread Dressing I had to bold it to make myself feel better.

Salad (sigh) and SV'd lamb chops Italian stuffed peppers and cooked to death green beans SO tired of making the same things so I did Drunken Noodles with shrimp (noodles were shirataki) and a cucumber carrot salad with a lime juice/honey/rice vinegar/sesame oil/chili pepper dressing. Had to go out to eat for lunch and took home some uneaten fried mushrooms--reheated them in the air fryer and I was really impressed. Ronnie liked them better than the first go around because they were nice a crisp. Air fryer is probably getting a permanent place on my ever dwindling counter space. Deviled eggs, shrimp scampi and SV'd steaks also
  4. I'd do the beans, too. They're easy and when you doctor them up like you do they're excellent.
  5. @TdeVSeveral years ago I was looking for ideas for meals/foods that I could freeze in portions to take to my Grandpa. This thread may be helpful to you? Edited to say: A tip that @Jaymesgave on that same thread was really helpful. Freezing in containers is good BUT there is the added chore of washing and putting away said containers. If you can freeze meals in ziplocks you can just trash the bags when you're done. Granted, not everything can be frozen in those but it's an idea to think about. Here is the post where she discussed more in detail what she did for her father.
  6. Well I think you guys did great turning lemons into lemonade! I really appreciate you showing us your trip--I love that you take us along Also very much looking forward to seeing Komodo Dragons next time
  7. And this is where you'd find me dead on the floor from starvation --I have no clue how to do this 🤣
  8. Ronnie's doctor told him to eat like this a couple years ago--hence the no/low carb diet I try to adhere to but it's SO hard. He did lose some weight in the beginning and his bloodwork improved hugely. I raised the issue of cholesterol to his doctor and he told me he'd rather Ronnie's bloodwork look this good and that there are drugs to take care of high cholesterol if needed. I disagree but I kept my mouth shut. I'm of the mind that all things in moderation are good. But what the hell do I know?
  9. I hope they ship to Kansas lol. But seriously I hope somewhere near you has that delicious looking treat.
  10. Nope. You're not ignorant--you're teaching us things!
  11. I don't want to say you've outdone yourself here because you outdo yourself every week but I think you outdid yourself here Who wouldn't love that sandwich and salad. And something different from all of the heavy holiday type foods--maybe that isn't an issue but I, for one, would certainly welcome a change. I love the eggs in the chicken salad. And what a nice touch to have the dressing on the side. I know all of the containers are not cheap.
  12. Yes, we have two. One is really old and it hates me. We recently got a new one that is much more friendly. We'll have to drag it out there on a trailer.

I keep saying I need to snip the flowers, I always do in the garden....but they ARE so pretty lol. I suspect you're right about the roots. I need to get a bigger pot but then it wouldn't fit in the window and that presents a whole 'nother problem with Newman wanting to eat the plant lol.
  14. A tiny update..... We had a HUGE day of winds--and when a Kansas person says it's windy, it's windy. It was around the 15 of December. Winds steady at 50 gusting from 80 to 100 mph some places. Ronnie went out to our property and found this: Blew the new deer stand right over. And it was anchored very securely. Not securely enough obviously. I forbade him from trying to set it upright by himself so we have some work to do at some point. Yay. Sigh.
