  1. Restaurant finances are complicated. Being a "big name" does not necessarily pencil out to big bucks - more often huge responsibility and worry. We are in uncharted territory. They are trying. The articles are everywhere as the scramble progresses. Here are just 3 https://la.eater.com/2020/4/24/21235075/restaurants-deliver-home-meals-for-seniors-shelter-in-place https://www.eater.com/2020/4/27/21238267/paycheck-protection-program-gets-additional-310-billion-in-funding https://la.eater.com/2020/4/23/21231563/71-above-emil-eyvazoff-los-angeles-restaurant-ppp-federal-loan

    Dinner 2020

Wow nice. - when I first read about Bastilla it talked about squab so I used duck (goofy I know) We enjoyed it and kept it that way.
  4. Andy Ricker's Pok Pok ? - high 5 sir - great story.

    Breakfast 2020!

I thought the Krispy Cream fad had passed. Saw them first in Las Vegas long ago. There was a glass wall and you could watch the process. Not sure which casino. I grew up with homemade ones on occasion and these just seem too sweet and kinda boring. They opened a KC right across from my YMCA years ago - no temptation, The kids preferred our local shops. Interesting history. https://time.com/longform/national-doughnut-day-photos/
  6. I guess the url would have helped. https://youtu.be/yjR6_xGVSDM
  7. @Cahoot OK - i am in serious need of black coffee and suddenly crave everything above. Photo quality analysis not a sway factor for me.
  8. It has been a LOOONG time since I did as dirt cheap at Indian markets - just chuck in freezer. However this video (very annoying computer voice) hits the highlights. Condensed version: excellent drainage, let dry out a bit between waterings. feed lightly. (we use the term weekly weakly) (fish or seaweed are my preferred) Good luck
  9. A hugely popular one in the US is "Chinese chicken salad". Madame Wu's in Santa Monica, California often claimed the recipe. "Legend has it that in the 1960s, Madame Wu, of the famous and beloved Madame Wu’s Garden in Santa Monica, claims to have made the first Chinese chicken salad for Cary Grant" This is a good overview of its very "non Chinese" basis https://www.bonappetit.com/entertaining-style/article/history-chinese-chicken-salad
  10. The guide should be locally reference based. General is not the best route. Many areas have foraging groups that can assist. Also classes where you go into the "wild" give a better feel than pictures in a book.
  11. Ah that makes sense

Good looking caper berries. Where do you source yours?

    Lunch 2020

@Duvel I see that Kewpie pattern at the local okonomyaki place - if you order cooked for you as opposed to tabletop yourself. So traditional?

    Rounding the menu

I am with @Shelby on well cooked down greens.
  15. That is what all the kids do at Little League with sunflower seeds. They look like they have chew in their cheeks. Love it when they spit out stand back - don't stand so close to me. https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/53234/when-did-baseball-players-start-chewing-sunflower-seeds
  16. I just unpacked a new Yamaha keyboard and Sweetwater tucked these in. What a fun memory lane treat.
  17. Beautiful bread and the wild garlic veloute is calling. Current travel restrictions are keeping us from your doorstep.
  18. Actually got an order for today - placed at 3 a.m. for 7pm - we shall see. Instacart local. No tp but the hoarders arrive May 3 and will bring. May the saints preserve us. I just realized my power outage (wildfire & covid19 related) starts 9 to 5 today and my phone is sketchy. We shall see.

    Lunch 2020

It is lovely how he is getting that hand feel for pasta. I think my childhood helping great grandma with the weekly noodles made various doughs intuitive for me. The squash seeds - isn't it a nice bonus

    Fruit

It has become a misogynistic reference https://www.theguardian.com/books/2018/apr/07/cursed-from-circe-to-clinton-why-women-are-cast-as-witches So not a preferred term

    Soda bread

As Darina does with the cross scoring. How do you store if keeping past day1? I liked her poking to let the fairies out - do you do that?
  23. I certainly munched on the Halloween pumpkin seeds after brining and roasting. The kids anxiously awaited Mrs. Keough's seeds. The guys at the pumpkin patch would give me free ones on Nov 1. But green pepitas are hull-less by nature. I had no clue until a while ago. I like them in both forms. So yours had the hull? https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/pepitas/
  24. Way too dense for jicama . Our street fruit vendors sell jicama, cucucumber, pineapple and melon in a cup for refreshing nibbling.
