I have to refrain from screaming every time my step mother pokes fruit - that is NOT how ya test ripeness!

@KennethT I just love that you can say "herbs from the garden" posting I think from a NYC apartment. Your eG stripes are firmly in place I do realize you are growing the kids.

There is a reason NYC is one of 3 cities on my phone temp thingie. And really Cupertino does not count. Virtually enjoying your meal as I sip chicken soup.

So odd to know LA is way colder than NYC - nice patio meal We are currently at 66F high and you reportedly 85!

What immediately comes to mind is an appetizer @Kim Shook and I had separately but discussed here somewhere. Poultry (mine duck, her chicken) with a hot pepper sauce from Cochon. I just ordered livers and peppers to make jelly. I do not see it on the menu now but the entire menu = comfort! https://cochonrestaurant.com/ A respite in difficult times.

Your rye bread has a lightness rather than the sometimes dense ones. Thumbs up! I do like the heavy ones for open face sandwiches but I could happily sit at your table. Our Sunday ritual was rye w/ caraway from Jewish bakery after church. Yup - LA bit of a mash of cultures in a good way

@BKEats Completely different "animal" I know but have you played with jackfruit on your veg journey? There has been a run on it at Trader Joes in my area https://www.traderjoes.com/digin/tag/Jackfruit/

The oft quoted saying is "normal is just a setting on the dryer"

OK missy! who lives near ya? This is a community right?

I may have posted this before. When I want to gift to neighbors I use generic mix, disposable pan, a touch of raspberry jam, couple drops of Angostura bitters, and a tablespoon of coffee. The men especially get very excited. i think that broadly mimics the more bitter as @Chris Hennes posted.

Deborah Madison's "The Greens Cookbook" is often considered gold standard in the US. Approachable comforting yet interesting food.

Lucky you on baby sweet potato. I only ever see the big kids. I imagine the smaller ones have a skin/flesh ratio I would prefer

I think the main particulate matter in the air around Solvang is powdered sugar. I'll skip and head to wine tasting.
