So the housewares inventor and manufacturer "Quirky" say they invented a household "Broom Groomer" and then accused OXO Goodgrips of stealing their idea, then they staged a protest in front of OXOs offices. OXO then totally obliterated them in this online retort. http://www.oxo.com/quirkyresponse.aspx Classy and Classic!

I had a cookbook from Amazon Dry Goods and Pickling Works that stated that the Medieval people cooked veggies in such a way that rendered them inedible. Apparently they didnt wash veggies from the garden and things still had pebbles and sand in them after cooking -

Its rice stretcher. You add 1 bag to 1/2 cup rice and cook it in a rice cooker and it cuts the carbs and calories in 1/2. Its "fake rice" for lack of a better word.. It tastes and looks like rice. Its made of Konnyaku but with no rubbery texture

Hi, I have been trying to get Otsuka Corp to start importing Mannanhikari to the USA for years now, ever since I purchased some on Rakuten. They always say its not for export, Oh well, but Ive noticed that there appear to be other companies selling Calorie and carb lowering rice stretchers as well, Does anyone of you eGulleters in Japan know what the companies are? I was going to buy a case and sell it on ebay but OMG the shipping on 24 packages alone were $200.00!!!

Wow... sounds like someone is in for a hangover.... My wife and I joke about 'hitting the vanilla' when the kids (5!) get crazy. Although, vanilla beans cooked as a veggie definitely sound like an experiment..... maybe even an experiment worth trying! Okay I bought some cheapo vanilla beans at the grocery store and boiled them for 30 minutes in just water. I put butter and s&p on them. You simply can not bite thru them.. Its the kind of toughness that not even an hour in a pressure cooker would soften... Oh well I tried

http://i.imgur.com/e6CcouJ.jpg I had some of these yesterday. OMG so so good. They are boneless fillets of white anchovies in vinegar & oil... You eat them on crackers or bread, They arent salty. Aside from Whole Foods, where else can I buy them? Are they "In Season" at Costco? Ive read they sell then there but a call to Costco says no. Anyone have any dishes they make with them? Im quite obsessed since yesterday. Im afraid Im gonna ring up quite a tab in them since they are $25+ a package Thanks for the answers

Hi, I saw the Esio beverage maker at Walmart (ggrrr) over the Holidays. It makes both hot coffee and ice cold beverages via liquid concentrates in pouches with a kinda "ball point tip". It heats the water for coffee and tea and has a refrigerating unit to chill cold drinks like juice, energy drinks, margarita mix etc You can switch pouches quickly to serve numerous drinkers in a jiffy... Anyone buy one? Although I love the concept I think it should also froth milk fizz drinks.. http://www.esiobev.com/

So I love those crunchy crispy green beans from Trader Joes. They are made in Asia by a special low temperature vacuum fry method. It lowers the fat content of veggies fried in this method. http://www.sciencedi...023643808000431 The Asian market has other varieties (mixed crispy veg, crispy okra, Potatoes) http://i.imgur.com/a4D5U.jpg I also hate the skinless (meaning no nutrition) apples with carmel dip from McDonalds in the Happy Meals. Its all sugar! So I called up McDonalds to tell them about the green beans, they could put American Farmers to work by growing green beans for a healthier Happy Meal side. Dust them with ranch or nacho cheese flavor! I was also going to tell them they should sponsor a nationwide contest to find a healthy, nutritious veggie based snack, for the Happy Meals... So I called em up and before I even got the green bean idea out, they stopped me and told me "A court of law will not allow us to even listen to ideas from consumers" and hung up. HUH? what gives?

According to Pati Jinich, Sangrita has 5 ingredients, Toasted Soaked Ancho Chilis Orange Juice Lime Juice A slice of white onion Salt Its delicious

What about the texture? Looks pretty challenging to me! (Never had a chance to try though.) Mixed with rice, karashi, soy sauce and scallion its yummy, the sliminess is minimal then, but add raw egg, raw okra and grated slimy mountain potato and its ramped up.

Something similar was sold in the USA some 20 years ago by the comedy duo "The Mommies"... It was offered by Infomercial. The one Mommy put the pot in the Freezer and it supposedly still cooked the meal. It was called Aircore Cookware http://giftfindonline.com/air_core_cookware.html

Allergies or at least sensitivity could play a part in many food dislikes. Don't know if that's ever been studied. A friend of mine is gluten intolerant and one smell that she can't stand -- to the point of nausea -- is freshly baked bread. My husband, who has a problem with lactose, gets nauseated by the smell of fresh milk. Your nose is trying to tell you what the rest of your body thinks of ingesting that particular food. Maybe, maybe not, BUT scientifically we tend to crave things we are mildly allergic to... We eat something we are mildly allergic to, the "pain" of the allergy causes our body to release endorphins. The endorphins make us happy and mask the "allergy pain" so we keep eating. We go to bed, the endorphins wear off, we wake up with a food hangover. We crave that endorphin high so we go to the very food that gave us that endorphin rush and the cycle starts all over http://www.healthandgoodness.com/article/allergies-and-weight-loss.html

I will never eat dog or cat or raccoon or skunk or whale... I will however eat anything else as long as its clean, from a reputable source (esp any kind of giant spiders) But nothing makes me gag more then undercooked or raw eggs and the looks of the blue-ish translucent hard cooked Emu eggs are the worst. Ill probably never eat thousand year eggs... And Ill eat natto

Corn Starch Only in Westernized Chinese Food?
GlorifiedRice replied to a topic in China: Cooking & Baking
Remember, Katakuriko (Potato starch) isnt made of Russet type potatoes but from the bulbous root of a lily plant in Asia. I think the reason English written Asian cookbooks say to use cornstarch is cause there werent many Asian Mkts here yrs ago to buy the Katakuriko starch from, so it was a substitute -
