Vinny Gambini: Are we to believe that boiling water soaks into a grit faster in your kitchen than anywhere else on the face of the earth? Mr. Tipton: I don't know. Vinny Gambini: Well, I guess the laws of physics cease to exist on top of your stove. Were these magic grits? Did you buy them from the same guy who sold Jack his beanstalk beans?

What do you keep on your kitchen counter?
GlorifiedRice replied to a topic in Food Traditions & Culture
I have my toaster, my Tassimo (suck it Keurig), my Osterizer Kitchen Center (I have ALL the attachments too) and my nuker. The Nuker is getting tossed as soon as I get a new over stove nuker and in its place on the counter will go my Panasonic Rice Cooker and my Vitamix... I have all my utensils (mostly OXO) in the drawer... Im thinking of getting rid of the toaster and getting a Spacesaver Toaster Oven.. I have my William-Sonoma ice cream maker in a cabinet and my Salad Shooter and Deep Fryer over the Fridge... Would Love to have an electric pressure cooker (dont need a crock pot as my rice cooker is a combo) -
Things lots of people buy and I don't understand
GlorifiedRice replied to a topic in Kitchen Consumer
I think I figured it out... YES fresh not canned and FRESH and not processed are best. BUT The deal is, that many many many adults were raised with certain products and they LOVE those homey tastes. Like people are saying about LeSeur Peas in the can, I was also raised to eat an occasional can of Blue Lake green beans in the can. Yes Im sure a hand ground burger with artisan sour dough bun, with imported cheddar and juicy beefsteak tomato and baby greens and onion jam is probably FAN-EffIN-TASTIC, BUT A Big Mac is so satisfying for the homey childhood goodness it brings... As a foodie I think ALL foods have merit in our lives, cause occasionally you just need a big bowl of FROOT LOOPS or a Twinkie, dammit! -

I made homemade butter the other day and people were shocked. "Howd you make butter?" They literally had no clue. -

If something is available to me in powder form Ill buy that when given a choice. People complain about the lack of clean fresh water on this planet and water shortages, but did you know that in areas where bottling plants are, the levels of the lakes and streams drop? Next time you go to the Costco and the 7-11 take note of the sheer amount of liquids that are on the shelves. In each Costco the amount of liquids that are in containers on shelves alone could fill 5-6 swimming pools. That is water removed from our lakes, streams and ecosystems... so Id say Unnecessary Liquid Detergents Smart Waters et al Spray Candy and its ilk marketed to kids -

I joined eGullet cause I was looking for an English translation of a Japanese seaweed salad kit I had bought. I read Torakris' posts in total awe, wishing I could live her life. I remember her posts showing ready made Bento ingredients that were frozen and all that needed to be done was pop in the Bento box and it thaws on the way to school and is ready to eat by lunchtime. See here for more offerings http://justbento.com/handbook/bento-culture/bento-tidbits-japan-readymade-bento-foods-supermarket I really think there is a huge untapped market in the USA to develop a Bento Lunch "system" so kids (and adults) can eat more healthy, especially for parents who arent great cooks or are very busy Hello Jamie Oliver!!!!! Would you guys buy and use a Bento system if one were available?

Honestly, I think after the reactions here to his statements, I now dont care about outting him cause Im now confident that hes a total fraud. Yesterday I smoked him with my knowledge about tropical oils and home made dogfood (he literally went quiet and signed off) so its fair to say that he has been neutralized. So thanks Guys for the responses...
