  1. You could buy that 15 bean mix called HAMBEEN, and that way you can try all the beans at once
  2. I was checking out at Walmart (I know I know) the other day and saw these You betcha I bought em! Opened up the package and this is what I had It was delicious, but it was just cooked thick bacon. It wasnt chewy jerky. But it was good to satisfy a bacon craving...
  3. So I saw this recipe on my cyber travels for beef stuffed BETEL LEAVES http://theculinarychronicles.com/2011/11/14/th%E1%BB%8Bt-bo-n%C6%B0%E1%BB%9Bng-la-l%E1%BB%91t-vietnamese-grilled-beef-wrapped-in-betel-leaves/ I was intrigued cause BETEL LEAVES are a intoxicant in many South Asian countries when chewed with Areca nuts, lime and other flavorings. The aforementioned mixture is known as PAAN... Paan is used EVERYWHERE. Its a legal drug, mouth freshener, when passed around its a deal sealer and wedding sealer... Literally NOTHING gets done in some South Asian countries without the tin of Paan being passed around. So the other day I was at the Indian Supermarket and noticed that they sell PAAN ingredients, FRESH BETEL LEAVES! I bought 2, to taste. I got home and tore a little edge off and stuck it in my mouth and chewed it. OMG such a pop of greeny peppery tongue tingling medicinal flavor! I spit it out to consider if I liked it or not, About 2 minutes later I swear I felt like NEEDED to chew some more, so I did, with some Nerds candy, and that time it tasted like a strawberry cigar. I definitely liked it. So Thanksgiving came and went and then I went back to buy 6 more leaves and make the Thịt Bò Nướng Lá Lốt... Here are my rolls with the rice paper, pickled carrot and cucumber and sweet-sour-salty dipping sauce http://i.imgur.com/L53Nv.jpg http://i.imgur.com/x4SbR.jpg http://i.imgur.com/IpwkJ.jpg I ate 3, they were really good, The cooking mellowed the leaves dramatically and the aftertaste is of tobacco, which will take a bit of getting used to, but they were yummy
  4. I am making Vietnamese Thịt Bò Nướng Lá Lốt (Vietnamese Grilled Beef Wrapped in Betel Leaves) this afternoon, I shall let you know
  5. I agree about the creamy eggs, but its all day for me. Undercooked scrambled eggs make me nauseous.
  6. In Europe the vision of David Beckham in his tracksuit & trainers celebrating a big 3-0 victory is sexy. Sexiness in Europe is soccer and compact sportscars Thats MASCULINE. In the USA the cowboy with the 10 gallon hat, mustache, boots, and gun and pick up truck is considered sexy and masculine. Hunting is masculine...You cant look sexy and masculine fishing I guess! How many people think the Gortons fisherman is HOT? Cowboys want a juicy steak and potatoes. I know many men who think sushi and fish are sissy food. I live in the suburbs of Philly, I love all seafood...But even 30 miles west of me some of the grocery stores have NO fresh fish counters and those that do have shrimp, flounder and surimi Now this might be the most controversial statement Im gonna say... In Annette Gordon Reed's book "Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemings -An American Controversy" she states that one of the reasons President Jefferson was so infatuated with Sally Hemings (aside from the fact that she was his dead wifes sister) was because when she accompanied him and his daughter Martha to France for a tour, she was trained in French cookery and ingredients and at that time in Americas infancy American women had no cooking culture or refinement and Sally knew how to cook Mr Jeffersons favorite meals many of which were exotic for those times. Perhaps in some parts of the country today Americans still havent progressed in their cooking culture... OMG Im already ducking.

  9. The year I was pregnant I called intl directory assistance to get the phone numbers for all the foreign baby food companies so I could purchase a few cases of German, Japanese and British baby food and the directory assistance lady told me she was going to report me to CPS and that I was abusive. Here I was trying to raise a child with a great palate and I was abusive.

  19. I have decided to no longer purchase canned tuna from my regular grocery store. Ive been buying Star Kist Gourmets Choice solid light in water for years but lately it no longer tastes like tuna. If you research canned tuna, you will see that legally the tuna companies can use many varieties of fish and call it canned tuna. Well the recent batch of tuna smelled faintly like ammonia. So the other day when I was at the HMart I bought a few cans of Korean brand Dong Won and they tasted like the tuna of old! It was fabulous! Try it
