Nothing personal I promise. After all I do live in Iowa, the state which grows more corn than any other state. And that probably means you won't ever want to visit me either. I'm surrounding by corn fields on three sides and soy beans on the other. I do have friends who are bee keepers. I could fry up a batch for you while I eat corn on the cob dripping with butter.

How about popcorn?

Never eat at a place called "Moms", but if the only other place has a sign that says, "Eats", go back to 'Moms." W.C. Fields

Makes me want to pet it, not eat it. Look like it might even purr!

Happy Thanksoween or Hallogiving. Nope that just won't work will it? Happy Holidays, there that sounds better.

I don't care for them either. Looks as if they can't make up their minds if they are flatware or chopsticks!

No mention of duck at the Ottumwa, Iowa Arby's the sign out front featured deep fried turkey and apple crisp. Drove on by to our favorite mama y papa taco place and pigged out on al pastor tacos. Don't need no quackin' duck

Wow, seeing that I can't help but wonder what else was in that loot bag! What a nice gift that was. -
Jose Andes is a God! I adore that man.

Used to do a lot of selling on eBay and today I was cleaning out a box of unsold/unlisted odds and ends. Forgot all about having this old cookbook-Kitchen Fun A Cook Book for Children by Louis Price Bell. Copyright 1932. For something printed on what I would call pulp paper, it is in remarkable condition. Is this something any of you would be interested in having as a gift? If so. let me know via pm

I'll bet you house guest would be honored to share that with you too! So glad he's coming back again. Can't wait for pictures of the happy reunion.

Hum. have had several over the years jug fish for snappers here in the pond. They used really "ripe" chicken livers for bait. I've yet to cook or eat turtle meat so I'll be interested in seeing how you deal with yours. And I agree, Chum deserves a spot on a calendar ,,,,beautiful photo!

Easy to trap however. Just set out an empty can and they crawl right in.

Yeah, killing, cleaning and cooking the wild Spam. As usual, this is going to be fun to follow along!

Is there a chance you could ask the kitchen staff what cut they use? Tell them how wonderful it is and they may well be willing to share with you.

Well. that's clearly what you get by crossing a baby cuke with a Lincolnshire sausage. Now if I could only figure out how to sex the things! It is either a cukesage or a saucumber

When did Ranch dressing take over the world?
IowaDee replied to a topic in Food Traditions & Culture
Our local Mexican restaurant routinely includes a bottle of ranch along with the traditional hot sauces on every table. Very sad to watch patrons drown their tacos in the white stuff. I agree, it has a place but just not on my Mexican platter. -
I just had to check and we watched the documentary in 2011. Since then, the phrase, "I like killing flies" has become our mantra at this time of years when the flies are looking for nooks and crannies in the house to spend the winter in.

I so agree about pork. If I could only have one meat, it would be that -hands down. Or is that "trotters" down?

[Host's note: this post and the responses were split from the Food recalls topic, in a which a post noted that that NYTimes advises against eating raw centipedes, and that two people had contracted rat lungworm from doing so.] What would be the best way to cook centipedes? I'm thinking like a tiny kabob. Should they be skinned prior to cooking or to eating? Would a dipping sauce enhance their flavor or cover their delicate taste? I picture them artfully arranged a top a bed of rice and small shards of fresh herbs sprinkled over them😋

Oh well, I can't stand Woody Allen so I missed that. Sorry.
