Count me as another big, big fan of Corner Gas!

You would not believe the craving I now have for a chocolate covered frozen banana! Last one I ate was in Balboa Park in San Diego about a decade ago. I especially got a kick out of the American Gothic parody in your last shot. We live about a half an hour from the actual house and love to visit the quirky museum they have. It is full stuff like that. Thanks for taking us along . One question. was Day O, aka the Banana Boat Song playing in the background?

And where is the "official" crescent moon cut into the door? We came back here in 1964 to visit my in-laws. They had recently bought a farm and it had no electricity and only an outhouse. Was sure an eye opening and nose holding experience for this California girl.

Oh a Banana Museum, now that sounds really "apeeling" to me.....don't monkey around, go there right away.

I'll confess to never having watched an entire football game since I was 10 years old That was the last time my father took me to the L.A. Colosseum to see the L.A. Rams play. All I remember is seeing a bunch of big, fat men who kept falling down. Nothing since then has made me change my mind. We will spend the day waiting for the opening of baseball season. Go St. Louis Cardinals.

We have a copy of The Ashley Book of Knots and, if I want to be frustrated, I get it out and try to tie any knot in it,. It is a wonder I ever learned to tie my shoes My husband, on the other hand, tied the cutest little monkey fist knot and it was on my key chain for years. And he can tie a perfect bowline without even saying. The rabbit comes up out of the hole, goes around the tree."..... ,. Okay back to the topic, sorry.

Oh yeah, I remember them. The "shrimp guy" showed up every morning to sell them fresh off the boat. If we slept in, we "had" to make a visit to the shrimp ladies down town....such a burden😉

Just stop torturing me right now! I probably walked by the stuff more than once yesterday.

I'm so frustrated. Husband and I had to make a flying round trip to Des Moines and back yesterday. About 125 miles each way on rather iffy roads. We made good time, he drove. Anyway we ended up with about an hour to spare. What to do and where to go? Can you say Trader Joe? And we did. Now here's the sad part- next to my computer at home is a list of all the amazing products you people share and I want to try. Did I have the list with me? No, of course not. So I girded my loins and went to work filling the cart. Just such a chore doncha know? Ha. Husband kept darting off and returning with stuff to add. Time was up and off we went to the check -out counter. We had barely left the parking lot when I uttered . "Oh crap, pancake bread, now I remember" Too late. But I do have a stash of Cheddar Rockets, tamales, gingersnaps, sourdough bread, and lot of new frozen goodies to try as well as several different salsas and cheeses. Since the last time we were there, a brand new Aldis has been built across the street. Such temptation!

Holiday gifts. What food/drink related gifts did you get?
IowaDee replied to a topic in Food Traditions & Culture
I always knew Santa liked you best! Seriously, what a wonderful assortment of gifts. I especially like the cutting board for beginners. I need all the help I can get plus it is just a lovely piece to look at. -
That's a small price to pay for an indulgence like that looks to be.

That top one looks ready to fall. If I catch it, can I keep it? Please!

So glad tacos were already on the lunch menu when I saw that photograph. I roasted some poblanos this morning I'm doubly in the mood now!

According to some sources, Francois Mitterrand, former French President ate an Ortolan on New Year's Eve, 1995. The story goes that the little bird was forced feed and drowned in Armagnac. Let's hope he enjoyed the wee birdie, It turned out to be his last meal. No word if it was "melt in your mouth" good.. By the way, he died of prostrate cancer not the results of eating the bird.

Starting a high profile new restaurant (after closing another)

gfron1, curious to know if you have read the Foxfire book series. Lots of interesting old time info in them -
Our local food pantry will accept outdated food but not include it in the boxes they give out. Instead they have a special area for it and tell people to help themselves at their own risk so to speak.

Well, if I read the tag correctly, you get a pack of 50! Had I have known, I would have gotten several packs as stocking stuffers!
-
Boy, the perfect gift for people who don't give a s***. Now they can have it to spare and to share. But can you have it gift wrapped?
-
Boy ain't that the truth! Mt doctor told me last month that I have the highest good cholesterol that she has ever seen. Go forth and eat cheese was her advice and I have taken it. Shelby, your recipe is in the queue.

Oh Dear. Molten cheese plus being naked....do they have scars to show from the experience? Sounds more painful than frying bacon naked. The cheese blobs would tend to stick,,,ouch
-
Probably not just wearing them, but clutching them as well.

Ran across this today and it seems apt.. "In my experience, cleaver food is not appreciated at Christmas. It makes the little ones cry and the old ones nervous." Jane Grigson
