You have both ends covered so I suspect the middle can take care of itself

Nope, I've had lots of them eaten within a mile of where they grew. Basically just a pretty dull fruit. Lots of lime helps both as something to squeeze on them and to add to a margarita to drink along side them. Give me a mango any time.

I sometimes combine apricot jam and horseradish and slather it on a ham slice before baking. That was about as "exotic" as my Mom got in the kitchen so it has memories for me. I plan to try it on cream cheese too. Usually just stick to pepper jelly so this will be a nice change.

I wonder how people who refuse to eat anything with a face would react to those adorable squash guys?

You have a whole wonderful world of tastes about to open up. Discovering how varied cheeses were was one of the best discoveries I ever made. Have fun on this journey and don't forget to take us along. There is always another cheese to discover along the way!

And what about coconut milk and coconut water? At least a coconut kind of looks like it could produce milk if you just went by the shape.π

The whites of that egg look ,for all the world, as if they were made of white jade! Just the way it glistens is beautiful.

I hadn't been to a TJ.s since March of last year. But Tuesday was the big day. I was pretty restrained and only spent $125. I won't bog you down with details because it wasn't anything that hasn't been posted. I'm just excited about the trip up and down the aisles. In the back of my mind I swear I could hear both the freezer and refrigerator yelling at me to use restraint....ha what dreamers they are. I am very good about rationing stuff out so this will last a long time. I love grocery shopping is new and/or seldom visited stores!

Wow, if seed catalogs had centerfolds, that would be one for sure. "Miss Hot Tomato of August! See more when we lift the toast....."

As so many have said, I will miss your annual summer trip! But knowing you two, I suspect we have not heard the last of them by any means. It is just the end of a chapter, not an entire book! Safe trip home for the three of you.

My God, you made chocolate ammonites. My fossil loving kid would kill for those.
-
Ann_T, I've missed seeing your wonderful meals and especially Moe's breakfasts! So happy to see you posting again.

The only thing I take extra care with are leafy greens. After a good rinse, they get a ride on that merry-go-round we call a salad spinner.

LOL, almost looks like my eyes during allergy season. Yup, they're green but point in the same direction I hope.

Hantavirus is the real nasty one rodents carry. Former principal of our local middle school caught and died of it while on vacation in the south west several years ago. He was a young healthy guy at the time tool

Jonathan Gold, LA Times restaurant critic dead at 57

I just moved City of Gold to the top of the Nexflix queue. Loved it the first time and I'm sure it will be a bitter/sweet repeat this time around. -

Oh I'll miss him so much. After I saw City of Gold, I just knew we shared at least one gene. Seeing the shot of his stair steps pilled high with books I felt we were cousins at least! He gave voices to so many small restaurants, especially those which filled a special ethnic niche. I suspect he had a large part of putting Korea Town on the map and he rarely met a taco truck he didn't like. He was a unique, one of a kind treasure and Los Angeles was so lucky to have him. -
I vaguely recall my snooty grandmother having a cut glass dish just for celery on her table. Don't recall anyone ever eating a single stalk of the stuff. Maybe the dish was real but the celery stalks were fake?

Income: Farmers here rent hunting rights for deer and make big "bucks" (pun intended).

But might it not be fun to offer them to someone and say, "Take two and call me in the morning?"

Personally, I'd much rather have the silk purses and you can have the pig ears.

Those melons made me laugh. I also wonder about the vegetarians who swear they will eat nothing that has a face. How will they handle fruit with facesπ?

I'm enjoying this so much. Blogs are what first caught my attention here many years ago. Don't think I've ever been disappointed by one other than they don't last long enough.

There used to be a chain of restaurants called Stucky's along major highways. They were usually in partnership with a Texaco gas station. Every one of the Stucky's was known for having a bee hive behind glass inside the store. It was a big drawing point, at least to our kids. I was far more interested in the pecan candy they sold.
