Into a dish, topped with chopped black olives and some grated cheddar. It's in the oven now. I have some Tostitos whole wheat scoopers and my Cholula chile lime sauce......... OK no salad so definitely snack..................
  2. Based on Tracy Letts play it seems CBS is debuting this half hour show on 2 February. I'm interested to see how they adapt the format ... or expand on those soliloquies the character of Arthur did in the play. Hope it does well and maybe address some issues in a kind way..... I liked it when I first saw it and later read it almost ....holy @^%( that was almost 20 years ago!
  3. For American Thanksgiving I made a side dish of rutabagas, sweet potatoes and apples for the cousin's dinner. I also add chopped apples to my chicken salad and to baked sausage dressing to go with roasted meats like turkey or chicken or pork. I really like that bratwurst idea and will probably make it next week when I am solo.
  4. or do as Johnnybird's grandmother did ... and taught me to do ... use a knife, a wooden cutting board and a pot of boiling water, She would plop some dough on the cutting board she had wet with some water, shave off small noodles with the knife she had dipped into the boiling water into the pot.......fish out with a spider when done and shock in some ice water. Reheat in a pan with some butter.
  5. STUFFIES.......... am watching the American football playoffs and not sure what I want to eat.... there are roasted sweet potatoes, roasted butternut squash, a meatloaf and surprise,,,,,chicken salad made with some chopped apple for sweetness
  6. NOOOOOOOOOO..........frozen or fresh. I finally got Johnnybird to eat peas by introducing him to fresh English peas in the spring and summer and lightly cooked frozen at any other time. His mother used to cook the canned peas to a grey mush when he was a kid...... my mom as she got older used to eat Veg-all. I could not do it...........
  7. Salad cream? Just chopped up some green onions, roasted chicken breast and a lady apple then mixed it with some mayo and celery salt for a lettuce cup.....
  8. Well..... if anyone would like the initial copy I can send you mine. ...........along with a few others I have finished reading.
  9. SOOOOOOOO totally white trash dinner last night....can you tell I'm single right now? mixed green salad with olives, capers, grape tomatoes, shredded carrots and croutons with a nice vinaigrette THEN...... a few mini smoked beef sausages, a small can of baked beans, a homemade barbecue sauce all cooked together with some Choula chile lime sauce and poured over some jasmine rice. don't hate me............
  10. more chicken broth going........
  11. Baked on the bone with the skin on - salted and herbs. When cool enough to pull off the bone I do it(save the bone and anything sticking to it for broth) then shred/ chop and mix with minced shallot or scallion, celery salt, Cain's mayonnaise and some re-plumped dried cranberries and chopped walnuts - leave the nuts out if you are putting it between bread. We usually wrap in lettuce cups.....
  12. AAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHHH.... the trace of snow is up to 1/2 " and going... I am doing chores and don't to stop too long so some buttery crackers....some marked down brie and some golden tomato relish with ginger from Rea's farm in Cape May I bought for myself.......a few tomato skins but quite good.
  13. Tomato and basil soup drizzled with a balsamic reduction and half a toasted Black Forest ham and yellow American sandwich with some pepper relish.
  14. don't know when/if Johnnybird is getting home ..... got two bone in , skin on chicken breasts in the oven with some lovingly rubbed seasoning and now shutting down to watch The Last Waltz....... see y'all later
  15. I soooooo understand this thought. It wasn't until I fed Johnnybird good, FRESH limas grown in proper soil that he understood why I loved them enough to want them as part of my birthday dinner every year.
  16. Maybe like my kummelwick use real mash and the potato starch water? None of my English muffin recipes have potato flakes in them......
  17. Kummelweck rolls are a yeast roll made with some of the water from boiling potatoes, mashed potatoes, and then topped with caraway seeds and kosher or baking salt. Thank goodness for Jane and Michael Stern's book of Road Food recipes my Mom gave me. I love either version of beef on weck and try to spread it as far as I can.......
  18. Single this weekend so I can play with stuff... told a friend of mine who went to UB(State University of Buffalo) along with his sweet wife that I was making kummelweck rolls this weekend so.....expect a delivery early next week. I am thinking that either the Buffalo or Fredonia beef on 'weck would be a good thing to eat.
  19. She forgot the eggs... We have a joke here in New Jersey that French toast is the official food of snowstorms because if one is predicted you can't find bread, milk or eggs anywhere!
  20. not soup YET...but cleaned the upstairs fridge's freezer and found yet another bag of chicken bones for broth. Broth going now and since we have just entered the polar vortex so the outside freezer will be employed later. Hmmmmm.......what kind of soup should I make? While cleaning the freezer I also unearthed 2 pints of split pea and 3 of minestrone. Sent one minestrone up to Po-town with Johnnybird and pulled a split pea out for me for tomorrow's lunch.
  21. Bolognese sauce with bucatini for me; non-gluten pasta for John. A nice salad with some olives, tomatoes and red onion...for me. Putting together a load of stuff for him to take up to Pok for the weekend... pasta and chicken, waffles, pancakes, pasta with meatballs and sauce, turkey breast, bread for sandwiches, snacks.................
