Just headed out to give a friend a hand .... grabbed a pb & j sandwich on the last of Johnnybird's gluten free honey wheat bread and gobbling it down. About to grab some water and then off.......

actually there is NO SUCH THING AS A SEAGULL according to himself. I grew up calling them that but according to AOU (American Ornithology Union) they don't exist. Love...love...love Kerry's breakfast. Maybe more of a chicken salad and leave the rolls hinged, Anna? Sooooooo enjoying this as usual.

Your Daily Sweets: What Are You Making and Baking? (2017 – )
suzilightning replied to a topic in Pastry & Baking
Breakfast this morning was a peach cake made with fresh, local Jersey peaches that were peeled and chopped, dusted with Johnnybird's toast dope and topped a basic and not too sweet cake. Baked about 30 minutes before it became too hot and muggy here and served with some whipped topping. Just what I wanted to start another summer day. -
Another hot and muggy day here. Woke up at 430 this morning, opened up the doors so the cool air could flow freely and mix with the air from the open windows overnight and I woul3 rid be able to cook something. 3 ripe local peaches, 1/2 lb 93% beef, 3 chicken breasts...so to work. Roasted the chicken breasts to use later and made sloppy joes with the beef. Peeled and chopped the peaches, dusted them with toast dope, made a batter and .... voila ..... peach cake with whipped topping. That is what was for breakfast this morning.

I remember Goober grape. I really miss PB which was manufactured at the Red Wing plant in Fredonia NY - it closed back in 2014. I prefer a hearty bread, pb on one side and jelly on the other.

John has been busy and is once more over scheduling himself so I decided to treat him to some comfort food: shrimp and pasta. Reading Melissa Clark's new book so got some frozen tamarind and made him some shrimp pad thai. I'm off to visit friends this weekend so will make a lasagna for him to eat on while I'm gone as well as some macaroni salad, potato salad and some chicken with vinegar.

They are very popular around here and not just the Big House wines...it seems a lot of folks take them out on the lake. Maybe I'll get John a selection of Pinot Grigio and have him give me a report.

right now there is a bowl of washed cherries(red and 1.99 per lb) and one of champagne grapes in the fridge to snack on
-
I LOVE cherries too...... we were out in Seattle back in the mid 80s and the only good thing was the folk selling fresh Raniers for 1.00 per bag
-
how are the Ranier cherries? I would think it's a bit early for them....

Just finished 5 lbs of both potato and macaroni salad. Am headed into our local military installation where I have been a volunteer for 20+ years while Johnnybird worked there. We are also making sure that any DOD workers and all military officers working have a bit to eat.

Linner? Dunch? Tried a new place nearby in Wharton NJ called Pop's Chicken..... pieces of fried chicken, sides(potatoes au gratin and coleslaw), and a piece of cornbread. Chicken was crunchy and salty, one of the best slaws I have had that was creamy yet had a great tang. Potatoes - eh.... cornbread too sweet. Also stopped at a local place and picked up some south Jersey corn I microwaved and scarfed down. Yellow peaches weren't quite ready so they are finishing ripening in a paper bag. I am full and reasonably happy........

so before Johnnybird left I made him some eggs Benedict which he inhaled. Since testing the method of cracking my egg into a sieve and letting any extra liquid drain my poached eggs have been spectacular - if I do say so myself....................

and is it the new OLD formula they are touting here in the states? although I grew up with Miracle Whip I have mostly converted to Cain's mayonnaise...........

Dinner last night out with Johnnybird and a friend, Aurora, who is east to clean up her brother's estate. Went to her go to place in Caldwell, NJ, Calandra's Italian Village. They both had the whole wheat penne with game hen and I had a salad of watermelon and tomato with goat cheese, candied walnuts and a balsamic and olive oil drizzle along with an appetizer of their meatballs sugo. When we do go here I ALWAYS order the appetizer as part of my main. 15 mini meatballs in their own marinara that are light and the sauce is so flavorful...I did share at the end with the other two. Perfect bite on a hot and humid night.

Poison hemlock(Conium maculatum) and Queen Ann's lace(Daucus carota) are two different plants entirely though they DO resemble each other. Main difference is that Queen Anne's lace's stem is hairy. The root on Queen Ann's lace is white and does smell like carrots. The last few years we have had volunteer plants appear: black raspberries and wine raspberries. Yesterday I picked the first black raspberries - about 1/2 cup. Enough for John to wash and eat. Can't wait for about 2 weeks when I SHOULD have enough to make steamed puddings.

he has literally taken toast or pancakes or French toast and scraped any dark area off.... can you say engineer who is obsessive compulsive past the border of neurotic teetering on psychotic?

sent John and his brother, Mike, and former sil, Barbara, off to the U2 concert tonight with sandwiches, potato salad and iced tea. When they get back here there is salad and bison burgers. Tomorrow they can have some blueberry pancakes or eggs and English muffins. First time in years I am letting them find their own way as I have a commitment that I choose not to break. If they are still here when I get home I will be happy to cook for them.
