I adore...love...crave...black licorice. My grandmother and I used to pull the black jelly beans to eat ourselves. Unfortunately in my 20s I found out that it does cause heart problems for me and I have had to cut it out since then.

for the years my MIL was alive ...and therefore I was cooking holidays .... the Reeds HAD to have baby sweet gherkins. Cranberry sauce out of the can AND OceanSpray cranberry orange relish. I made a (homemade) green bean casserole with fresh green beans, cremini in a béchamel sauce but those canned onion rings. I also substituted a sweet potato casserole using vegetable stock instead of the canned sweet potatoes/butter and marshmallow glop. I could not care less about the turkey......give me the sides any day. The turkey is for the sandwich for dinner.

but I love you anyway................ grew up with spicy and sweet and fat and salty

Now if you had put a very, very thin slice of aged cheddar on those while still hot........... reminds me of my great grandmother's spicy molasses cookies
-
following the breakfast for dinner thoughts..... corned beef hash with extra sautéed onion and hard scrambled eggs with hot sauce and ketchup
-
Bison burger with crisp turkey bacon and a frico made with shredded mimolette and aged cheddar and a slice of the last tomato from the plant.

YEAH!!!!! It has finally started to cool down here. Planning on making some mushroom soup tomorrow. Sunday is supposed to be rainy and cold and miserable...planning on emptying the freezer out to make both vegetable and chicken stock to use in making more soup. John has asked about some butternut squash soup and I found a recipe for butternut squash and pear soup that looks good.

cleaning out the fridge in anticipation of making vegetable and chicken stock on Sunday...........and, OK avoiding raking leaves. 1/2 big can of crushed tomatoes, 1/2 jar of marinara, 1/2 of a minced white onion, minced red Italian cubanelle, some "Italian toothpaste" - tomato paste and about 1/4 cup of mixed Italian herbs and a dozen meatballs that I poached in the sauce. Ate two meatballs and some sauce over some linguine.
-
Picked up about 6 oz of cremini and a package of mixed mushrooms - oyster, shitake, and hen of the woods. Vegetarian mushroom soup coming up tomorrow.

Got back yesterday from the shore and now Johnnybird is off to do some stuff in Poughkeepsie and take his brother on a vacation to ME. Made gf penne with grilled chicken, sun dried tomato pesto, roasted red pepper, capers and olives for him to munch on. Made smooch with gf elbows, smushed tomatoes, sautéed onion and red peppers and sautéed bison to take with him. I have some plans for the next week or so for myself.

Chef John Besh resigns after 25 women claim sexual harassment

My sentiments exactly. I remember reading his article for Gourmet(I think) about his time serving in Operation Desert Storm and the descriptions of his going back into New Orleans with his 9mm sidearm to help feed the workers. -
More succotash with the last of the meatloaf and some killer pickled asparagus from that farmstand.
-
Hot apple pie from Clinton Conover Farms in Stone Harbor, NJ and some aged cheddar. Coffee ... black.
-
Down the shore(Wildwood Crest, NJ) and the second place I hit up yesterday was Rea's farm stand. Mrs. Rea was out of her zucchini relish . I did get some fresh limas and an ear of sweet corn. Succotash ... I was happy with just succotash but Johnnybird needed more so some shrimp and pasta for him as well.

read the book...I would recommend it for folk who want kids to learn how to cook. well written instructions and stuff a teen or 'tween would probably eat. -
Soooooooooo how'd it go @Naftal?

He's fine...it was only 3 steps but just NEVER would have thought a cat would take so strongly to a gingersnap! Maybe I should go check my great-grandmother's cookbook and see if she has a recipe.
-
freaking send them to me!!!!!! I just bought 3 bags of gingersnaps...... one for me for making sauerbrauten one for Johnnybird and one for the Smudge since he has fallen down the basement steps with his head in a bag of them......

Take the noodles out and it reminds me of a gamy version of S.O.S. .....

roasted chicken with some cranberry honey mustard on toasted marbled rye with Cain's mayo. Johnnybird has scrambled eggs with turkey bacon...and pink salt...and ketchup. yesterday it was one of our own tomatoes as well as some Shoprite gluten free toasted bread with walnut oil. anyone notice how many of us are tending to head towards savory now it is cooler? or in general... tomorrow for John will be sweetish...blueberry pancakes.

jello.....seriously, folks. I invented jigglers before the jello people did. No matter WHAT I do which includes following the instructions scrupiously I can't make jello. SIGH....no funeral jello casseroles from me. what is wild is during my earlier work in kitchens I routinely made lemon charlotte russe for work with no problem....
