usually don't eat in front of the computer.... today some Fritos with a dip of mediocre Dean's French onion dip supplemented by a spoonful of Bermuda onion marmalade. now its off back to the outside to hang with the kitties and enjoy the day gotta try that dehydrated cheese

Woke up this morning HUNGRY! Leftover polpette in red sauce with some fettuccine. Now I want a piece of apple pie with cheddar.....the local apples are starting to come in around here. Hmmmmmmmm

A line of thunderstorms blew through last night and dropped both the temperature and humidity here so cooking is bearable. Making polpette to serve with a marinara sauce and pasta(gluten free for John) and a salad of local products. Also baking off a half dozen chicken drumsticks for snacking. Still thinking about what to do for dessert...I do have some nice local white peaches so perhaps a fruit crisp.
-
Baked frittata made with some par boiled potatoes and some pesto stirred into the eggs with a couple of slices of Purple Cherokee tomato. Making some blueberry pancakes for John for the next few days as I'll be out and about ...
-
Turkey with red leaf lettuce on a spinach wrap for John to eat as he tries to clean the boxes from the living room. Getting a little peckish so heading out to use up the rest of the tomato and watermelon to make a salad. Adding some candied walnuts, ricotta salata and a balsamic drizzle.

We used to love a jelly omelette for Sunday supper ... unless we had rice with butter and sugar. Brunch here was white country toast, Cain's mayo, thinly sliced Purple Cherokee tomatoes, some Bermuda onion marmalade(brought home from Bermuda) and local red leaf lettuce. John has a tomato basil wrap with turkey and some of that local lettuce as we are off for Dr appointments and getting our driver's licenses renewed - new pictures!!! WOO-HOO!!!!!!!!!

That's the same recipe we used in the restaurant I worked in. You could try it but the oatmeal didn't set up so much that we could cut it. We stored it in the container we cooked it in then reheated in the microwave for service ... if we had leftovers. It was quite a popular dish.......

Fig and prosciutto stuffed with a blue cheese and 8 minutes in a 350 F oven.

We are leaving Sunday for a week cruise so trying to use up whatever is in the fridge... Some leftover cooked elbows and peas so just add cheese, some mustard, an egg and some milk for mac and cheese. Yellow beans I got from a local farm stand and some grape tomatoes. Saute the whites of some scallions, last of the shallot, some garlic, Add the beans with some water and the tomatoes and cook until the beans are soft and the tomatoes burst. Add some sherry vinegar, the basil from my new kitchen herb garden and a tiny bit of sugar with some salt. Take off the heat and add the last bit of the ricotta salata. Today I don't know if John will get home or not but I saw a local place has got some corn in so.....2 ears for me along with a salad of using up the last of the tomatoes and some good red leaf lettuce. If he does get home I have some chicken breasts thawed to pound out, some sage from the new kitchen garden and some prosciutto de San Danielle and some pasta.

Johnnybird was meeting friends up at Bethel Woods for the Santana concert but it a truism around here that he can't drive more than 1/2 hour before he asks "What is there to eat?"...and he might have just finished a full dinner. @Kim Shook potato salad with local yellow beans, minced shallot, minced scallions and a homemade Italian vinaigrette. This is his favorite thing for the summer. Turkey wraps with avocado cream(ok...mashed avocado, a bit of celery salt and a bit of mayo), meatloaf sandwiches on marbled rye and grapes to nosh on. I made myself the potato salad I grew up with - potatoes, drained pickle relish, minced shallot, minced scallions, some celery salt and Miracle Whip along with a dash of my great grandmothers cooked dressing. Heated up some of the meatloaf and drizzled with a ketchup/barbeque sauce and some long, slow cooked local yellow beans with garlic and butter.

Funny...I grew up with B & G red hamburger relish...

The first days of the week were very fruit forward with peaches, cherries and cantaloupe with cottage cheese; green salads; last night a western omelet with tater tots. Johnnybird is due to come home today and, since I basically cleared the fridge out and gorged myself on fresh Jersey fruit, I had to resupply. Made smooch with bison and his gluten free elbows, boiled up some of his pasta, baked off two chicken breasts with herbs and am finishing up a half portion of @ElainaA's roasted tomato sauce with all the small mixed tomatoes I had and some of the first basil I picked from my new kitchen garden!!!!!!! For lunch tomorrow or Friday or dinner I figure the tomato sauce with the pasta and some sautéed shrimp and some olives. I just make stuff and leave it in the fridge for grazing. I HAVE earmarked one of those chicken breasts for a chicken, walnut and dried cranberry salad for ME.

I do not know what is going on but I have been trying to post to this thread for the last few days!!!!! Over the last few months a group of us have been going here. One of my husband's work friends got sick. His sister had moved away from NJ to Southern Cali but she came back. After he passed she has stayed on to take care of the estate and she really likes this place so we get together to help her and go out to dinner every few weeks. We always try to sit outside if possible as it is so nice. The servers have to split their time between tables inside and outside so we try to be aware. Unfortunately the last time all of us were there our server was not quite on his game and left us hanging for about half an hour for our bill and then 15 minutes for the pick up and this was after sitting for another half hour between appetizers and mains and the same time to see if we wanted coffee or dessert. This is the first time in years I have tipped less than 25%....Ieft about 15%. This is a complex.......deli/ pizzeria.....bakery area....gelateria ...bar..restaurant. We have eaten in the restaurant area and taken bakery stuff away as you can get 20% off if you eat in the restaurant. The small meatballs sugo on the appetizer menu are in the top 3 off all meatballs I have ever eaten. Had a salad of watermelon and tomato with goat cheese, caramelized walnuts and a balsamic vinaigrette. I think it will be even better once the local tomatoes come in. Everyone else who has eaten the seafood said it was very fresh and wonderful. They devour the bread that is brought to the table with the cheese...olives and olive oil. My only complaints are : 1. When we first walk in all I can smell is burned bread....turns out it is the pizza from the area to the right of the bakery 2. I have ordered the pasta e fagioli and the lentil soups....both were woefully under seasoned 3. The volume of the music from the bar will bleed into the dining room at levels that make normal conversation almost impossible....I'm guessing that is an effect of the high ceilings and the stone used 4. We want to eat outside since the main dining room will be wildly cold when the air conditioning is being used... see above for possible reasons.

ohhhh....gottta get my husband's friend Peggy Lee(Americanized name) to see this. Her family is from Hong Kong......
-
yeah it has absolutely started though our goldfinch(potato chip birds) are just starting to court and nest...... headed to our place near Cape May in October for the raptor migration
-
The pasta is nice but those figs call out for some sort of blue cheese and prosciutto to be baked in the oven and devoured immediately......
-
I have something to do tomorrow from like 1 - 4 pm........ I'm sure I can make Corpus by Tuesday around 2 pm....... what birds will we be going after and will there be any of this left?

just be careful about abbreviating items... years ago my mom sent my grandfather to the store. On the list was: gr. ch Pop couldn't figure it out(this was back in the 1960s WELL before cell phones) Finally he and Miss Adelaide who worked in the butcher area decided it meant green cheer - laundry detergent. Turns out mom meant grated cheese - yes that stuff in the green container.
