Flying trip to up the Hudson Valley for my FIL's 85 birthday dinner. Great family time ... OK restaurant food. Back to reality today. John is off to climb rock today. He will have had a lot of protein for breakfast and lunch and I had nothing thawed out. OK time to run some ideas by HIMSELF......... He agreed to something vegetarian (just not too much fiber .....hey, baby steps). Roasted butternut squash, shallots and carrots, capers, olives, artichoke hearts with some homemade unconventional pesto I liberated from the freezer - walnuts, avocado oil, home grown basil and flat-leaf pasta) and his gluten free penne.

I identify totally but unfortunately Johnnybird isn't happy unless it is 80F + and humid. I hide in the basement with both dehumidifiers on.

suzilightning replied to a topic in Food Traditions & Culture
Just saw a link for a book that MIGHT be interesting though there is no "taking-my-kitchen-toys-to-work" part in it.... Made in the Office: Tasty & Hasty Meals with just a Kettle, Toaster & Microwave by Rachel Maylor. -
What food-related books are you reading? (2016 -)

Right now I have The Gourmands' Way: Six Americans in Paris and the Birth of a New Gastronomy by Justin Spring in the living room . Give a Girl a Knife by Amy Theilen in the bedroom. I'm really enjoying The Gourmands' Way quite a bit. I had never heard of Alexis Lichine and didn't realize how hard Alice Toklas' life was so hard after Gertrude Stein died. -
Tonight a turkey sandwich with cranberry honey mustard while finishing a beef stew for tomorrow IF himself makes it home. It's cool, wet and raining so it felt like the right time to make a beef stew.

NOOOOOOOOOO It isn't even freaking Thanksgiving!!!!!!

definitely agree with Jacob's Cattle beans which we used to grow out on the East end when I was young. We would eat some when they were young but most we let dry and used to make soups with over the winter with some ham.........
