  1. First I put 8 oz of dark chocolate(pastilles or chips or chopped block) the top of a double boiler with heavily simmering water with 1/4 cup of heated nutmilk into which I have dissolved 1 Tbsp of decaf instant coffee. Cover and let sit about 10 minutes. I separate 6 eggs then beat the yolks with 1/4 cup sugar and a pinch of salt over simmering water until they double in bulk. I whip the whites to medium stiff peaks. Incorporate the melted chocolate into the egg yolks SLOWLY then whisk in about 1/3 of the whites to lighten and fold the remaining whites in. It's a variation on the recipe from Fannie Farmer.
  2. Making a dairyless dark chocolate pot de creme for Johnnybird. I'm going to put it into cups and top with some Amerana cherries and some faux whipped cream.
  3. A bowl of tomato fennel soup with some croutons and a sprinkle of grated Italian cheeses.
  4. nanaimo bars?
  5. @MetsFan5 - pan fried is good, especially now that they sell individual slices. Growing up I did like it baked with the cloves and pineapple......course I liked fishsticks and frozen French fries, too. with ketchup.
  6. At this time of year up here in northern New Jersey I would take you to Calandra's Italian Village. Good bread, pizza, pasta. Or perhaps for Indian food in Morristown. Or noodles at Shan Shan. Easier if you came to visit in the summer...... down the shore we would have all kinds of fresh seafood, fresh corn, tomatoes and blueberry pie!!!!!!
  7. ditto that!!!! and truffles?
  8. geezzzzz.... I feel for you as John tends to eat the same way as your GF. I have gotten up to go to the bathroom around 1 am and found him having a huge bowl of pasta with shrimp or something else.........no wonder his sleep time is between 2 and 5 am
  9. @robirdstx.....Oh that brings back so many, many memories!! When I would go out to visit my mom one morning our breakfast would be fried flounder(she always dredged in cornflake crumbs), the pound of bacon that was tried out to get the fat to fry it in, boiled potato(just in case there was a stray bone or two) with butter and parsley and lima beans. Hard to believe it's 27+ years she has been gone....

    Dinner 2018

Was craving meatloaf and decided to try something I had seen on The Kitchen...Sunny Anderson's meat and potatoes bundt loaf. I have a half sized bundt pan so halved the recipe and was really surprised - IT WORKED!!! The meatloaf came out fine and the potato "topping" was crispy and crunchy - kinda reminds me of the crispy bits from a broiled macaroni and cheese which I love. I didn't pour the sauce over the top of the loaf but served it on the side along with some peas and carrots, my favorite side dish with meatloaf.
  11. why do I keep hearing breakfast....second breakfast....elevenses....lunch......second lunch.........in my head I usually eat some protein and fruit around 730 am most days....lunch is around noon.......maybe a small snack of fruit and protein again around 3 then dinner.
  12. Greetings! Like @Kim Shook I love to live vicariously through others. Any chance we might be seeing some seafood and rice and piri piri chicken and egg tarts? Cook on!!!!
  13. The Johnnybird is like @MetsFan5 - a night owl or, as I refer to him mostly vampire. I, on the other hand, am an early bird. Yesterday I ate my dinner about 530 pm. John was out to dinner with some friends - their reservation was for 630 pm. After he got home he had leftovers about 1 am. When I got serious about losing weight I flipped the script and used that old adage by Adelle Davis " Eat like a king at breakfast, a prince at lunch and a pauper for dinner". I did deviate from it a bit and ate my main meal at lunch time and then nothing but water or tea after 5 pm. Two years later I had lost 60 lbs and have kept it off.
  14. Oh, no...Nancy. Hope you are feeling better..... and it wasn't the flu!!!! I have being sick at any time but when out of my house I am such a b&*%h because I'm not in my wheelhouse safe place. Did PJ at least snuggle with you and keep you happy and safe?
  15. Shoprite up here in northern NJ, Tracey.
  16. bumping this up as we will be heading north the end of June/early July for birding, icebergs and Gander. We will be checking out Witless Bay, Gander, up to the L'Anse aux Meadows and in Labrador up as far as Cartwright. John just wants seafood....pasta....few vegetables. I am just looking for interesting LOCAL foods.
  17. Yesterday was a toasted ham and cheese; today was corned beef hash with hard scrambled egg. Gotta get off now - the husband has to check our investment accounts and then get on to do some buying as the stock market is adjusting,
  18. @robirdstx is this breakfast or snacking while egulleting?

    Dinner 2018

last night tried something different. was at the grocery and saw a plant based burger called The Beyond Burger. on sale so decided to try it. not bad, not bad at all. ate it on a toasted English muffin with some relish, tomato and thinly shaved cheddar. salad on the side. it really felt meaty and didn't taste like sawdust......
  20. OHHHHHH!!!! Saw that but my coupon was for Alouette so picked up a container of crème de brie with herbs. Ritz crackers with a handful of grapes and some Langer's cucumber lime with mint and plain seltzer.
  21. Why for god's sake !!!! WHY!!!!!!!!!
  22. A Denver for me is 2 eggs beaten with Worstershire, sautéed minced onion, sautéed minced red bell pepper and minced ham. I prefer it on a toasted English muffin but will take toasted white with some mayo and ketchup.

    Dinner 2018

It must be a comfort food thing... just put a tray of meatballs with sauce on to poach. I'm going to have some of them with some bucatini and sautéed chard. The leftovers are going to get chopped up and made into some individual meatloaves for John and me. I picked up some shrimp for him and may make either shrimp etouffee or shrimp with pasta, olives and pesto.
  24. Come on, Stash.... take one for us here in the frozen NE. You remember that.......right??????? Take pity on us and show us that great produce we are missing, my sweet man.......
