Funny...I don't remember a lot of bones in the walleye. Maybe because I was eating filets not steaks.

Bring A Bottle of Wine To Another Couple??
suzilightning replied to a topic in Food Traditions & Culture
Is there time enough to call or shoot an email to ask if there is anything you can bring to enhance the cocktail hour? I have asked and if they say no I honor it .... Conversely I have been asked as well and will answer honestly........ A)Whatever you want to drink... B)Here is what I am making for dinner and appetizers .....how about something for dessert(we are NOT really dessert folks) -
Love halibut but when at school also found walleye which I adore.

I have a heavy coalport teapot......

I have started to drink Constant Comment again. I forgot how much I liked it growing up. We are in that shoulder season and hot tea with local honey just seemed to be the thing to have.

Bring A Bottle of Wine To Another Couple??

Do they actually drink wine? Bringing a bottle is not a diss on them but when we were invited to visit some new folks I didn't know I brought some flowers and local fruit and vegetables they could use later. Got a note from the wife that she loved the heads up to find some good local produce and appreciated that we didn't bring alcohol.........turns out she is allergic to it. -
Thank you all...... looks like we will be ferrying over to Newfoundland and then up the west coast then down to St. John's and the Avalon peninsula then home. We have already decided we are going to do another trip in a few years so I can get to PEI and Nova Scotia.

OHHHHH my few crocuses that weren't traumatized by being shoveled over are looking like yours but I LOVE your Johnny-jump-up as I don't have any here!! The garden centers are advertising pansies but when we moved up here we were told to NOT plant anything until mid May as we could have a freeze until that time. Now they are predicting a "healthy coating of snow on the ground" for Monday morning.

Shoot! If we were out for the Prairie chicken festival again I would have loved to check this out. Are they going to post the info from the symposium?

last night I made a bison burger with a side salad for myself. Right now there are 4 chicken thighs that were seared off and are in the oven with some shallot, garlic, leek, carrot and parsnips. The skin that I removed will be finished off in the oven so it is totally crispy(John HATES any kind of fat or skin so I spare him that agony). I'm going to also make some Hollandaise sauce to add to some cooked asparagus. Also going to make sure there is some gluten free pasta for himself.

ohhhhhh......like that. I have a small spice rack above the baking area of the kitchen for the spices I usually use - cinnamon, vanilla beans, vanilla extract, cloves, nutmegs with a grater among others as well as some other things like baking powder and baking soda. I also have a pull out rack between the oven and fridge that has my usual suspects there..... my dried mushrooms are in similar containers in the cupboards right above my small prep area.

Nice lists. I checked my black and white composition book labeled Gastronomy and Food History and have quite a few of them in there. I am especially looking forward to the Edna Lewis , Diana Henry and Edward Lee books. Just picked up The Immigrant Cookbook which seems very timely. Unfortunately it is adding more books to look at to my notebook..........

More oral surgery for John yesterday. When the bleeding stopped he grazed..... some mashed potatoes with minced chicken and carrots in chicken gravy; thinned out sweet potato soup, So Delicious chocolate dipped vanilla bars........... IF we don't lose power his dinner will be a fresh salmon cakes.

John had more oral surgery yesterday so he needs something easy to eat for breakfast this morning. I just pulled baked oatmeal with blueberries out of the oven for him for when he gets up.* Will have leftovers to take to Poughkeepsie with him and I do believe he may use some to go with the vanilla coconut milk ice cream I got him yesterday. * @JoNorvelleWalker you would identify with him as his defacto bedtime is between 2am and 4 am.
