    Bubble Tea

ten ren's my favorite place to get bubble tea while i'm in chinatown...melon green tea bubble tea is very delicious..bubble tea's been popular not only in places like japan or what not, but also in southeast asian countries like the philippines.
  2. considering that JGV's opening 1 or 2 star joints, is he just in it for the money?? spreading himself quite thin these days. oh yeah, what's that dessert called..the one that's beverage style and eaten with a straw that pastry chef pichet ong has on the menu?
  3. growing up in the philippines(manila), one of my favorite drinks was kalamansi juice with fresh kalamansi..Dinuguan, balut, champorado are very good..but the balut that i've seen state-side doesn't even compare to the ones i'm used to seeing and eating in the philippines...halo halo is soo good..i haven't been to cendrillon in nyc yet..that's one place i'd like to try out...jolibee in the philippienes not only meant the usual burgers and fries but also fried chicken and spaghetti. my mom makes beef Sinigang with the bone marrow. very delicious.
  4. he's probably a whole lot better a few years from now, hopefully. anyone think he'll ever go back into the kitchen??
  5. i didn't go out for thanksgiving, but i believe Daniel held a thanksgiving dinner thing for $110 per head...it was a regular thanksgiving dinner with a french twist. where there any other restaurants like Daniel that held a thanksgiving dinner?

    Help please

A friend has asked me if i could reccomend him a table dinner wine prefarably white, my friend's father is one of those italian wine lovers, price range is around from 15-20 dollars..any suggestions would be greatly appreciatated.
  8. french laundry, le bernardin, danielnyc(like the graphics), wd-50(the pictures that sam mason took of one of the cooks were amusing). don't like jean georges because it's too bland and boring and not well updated. the pictures i think are..but i don't understand why they don't show a menu like the other restaurants(e.g. le bernardin and daniel).
  9. French Laundry, Bouchon, Francois Payard's cookbook are no my wish list.
  10. what's the attire? is it casual (e.g. jeans etc.)

    '97 Merlot

the vinter is Kendall Jackson. ← There are several different KJ Merlots, if it says Buckeye Vineyard on the label then drink it, otherwise I'd use it to make a sauce for a rib roast or some steaks. ← yeah, it did say buckeye vineyard. brother's birthday is tonight, i'll put it to good use.
  12. We can assume he also had access to Kit Kat Bars as well as other less refined treats, but his current tastes have also been honed by the skills and tastes needed to have been the pastry chef at two Michelin three star restaurants as well as as two NY Times four star restaurants in NYC. Then again the most memorable dessert of his I ever had was a tarte with ice cream and used pears, figs and armagnac --no chocolate. ← Bear in mind, also, that Kit Kat bars in Europe taste remarkably different than they do here -- I often buy them from British import shops just because they are different (same as Mars bars which are also exported). ← what are the names of the european kit kat bars?? are they better than the kit kat bars produced here in the US?

  14. i saw him on oprah one time..yeah he does talk too fast...he's hit rockbottom..anyone think he'll ever go back into a kitchen? he pretty much screwed up a promising career in the restaurant buisness. guess he spends more time primping his face for the camera than being behind the stove.
  15. kitty kats?? what's he been eating as a child?? how can't he not like Ferrero Rocher..to me it tastes good. wonder if mr. payard has eaten other "low end" chocolates or candies..

??? ← Yeah, my eyebrown went up as well... Phatlouie07, are you telling us you have a OPENED bottle? And if so, how long has been open (not from 1997, I hope!)... ← i meant to say it's never been opened.

    '97 Merlot

A friend gave me a bottle of '97 Merlot and it's pretty much unused. I want to use it, but besides drinking, anyways, does anyone have any ideas to use it in cooking?
  18. chefs(e.g. tony bourdain, eric ripert, etc. etc.) particularly aren't fond(ok despise) fastfood joints. say..put those two with thomas keller, ducasse, vongerichten, boulud, bouley, Ferran Adrià, alice waters, charlie trotter, gray kunz and oh..let's just add emeril and alton brown to the mix to make this a bit more interesting..those guys..they have to operate a run of the mill mcDonalds fast food chain...they cannot do any burgers with truffles or foie gras, have to use KRAFT CHEESE. and the french fries comes pre-cooked(only have to deep fry them) in those huge bags...and only use pre-made hamburger patties. how long do you think they will last??
  19. i luuv green tea from ten ren, but what's really good is their green tea with melon bubble tea. delicious. i also like jasmine flavored teas from the dim sum restaurants in chinatown.
  20. one of alton brown's Good Eat's segments where he was rapping...that was really dumb, though mr. brown's show is informative..
  21. which do you prefer?? Personally, i prefer krispy kreme donuts.
  22. In the Philippines, it's called pulutan. And no, I never ate it. Very popular there, though, especially as a bar snack. Also sold in bus stations as road food <shudder>. From what I can recall, it's called balut (it's pronounced like the "u" in "put"). Men consider it an aphrodesiac and verility enhancer... good Lord. As a child, I'd be getting ready for bed when I'd hear the street vendor shouting, "Baluuuuut, baluuuuut." Clearly sold at night for a reason... who wants to look at an embryo while you're eating it? I've always seen it semi-hard-cooked; in other words, when you crack the top of the shell open and sprinkle some salt in to taste, you tip the egg up to drink the broth before consuming the tasty treat inside... aaaaaaaaaack. And, no, absolutely no. I never ate it. Vaguely remember drinking the broth once but would've been completely horrified if the embryo had touched my lips. Edited to add that my food aversions can be summed up in one simple statement: No feet, faces, or organs. Especially at dim sum. Duck tongues. Chicken feet. Tripe. Not even a hope. However, I do love pate... pulutan is small portions of different foods that filipinos eat while drinking...and balut..it's extremely delicious..haven't had one in ages.
  23. what about charlie trotter's restaurant?? when's that opening?
  24. so by say next year..JG will have at least fifteen or sixteen restaurants in his empire? is true about what JG says that V Steakhouse the biggest grossing restaurant in the time warner building??
