  1. It's pronounced pea - shay. ← thanks chocophile.
  2. if they offered you a rematch michael, it should be only pastry. no "new rule" stuff. now in that situation, i bet you'd win. anyways, great job to both you and batali. what kind of chocolate was beneath that potato puree? never knew you can put potatoes and chocolate together.
  3. just wondering, how did he screw up the chocolate sheet? i know this is a bit off the record but, one of his sous chefs there, pichet ong..how do you pronounce pichet's name. is it pi-shay or pi-shet?
  4. there was a five point difference between laiskonis(45pts) and batali(50pts). they gave laiskonis 10 for originality and i think a 13 or something higher for batali.
  5. i saw it. it was very interesting. chocolate and coconut. i liked it when michael did a version of the "egg", using coconut in it. though i was bummed that you lost michael. why did batali have to win? its not fair. you should've won.
  6. what's the secret ingredient gonna be? chocolate?? well..since it's the day b4 valentines day weekend..
  7. why don't they allow to have a live audience to watch the battles?? the original iron chef show had its own audiences and even the challenger's family got to watch from some royal box or something.
  8. not sure if the batali vs. laiskonis battle is either a dessert or savory battle..but there's a picture on foodtv with mr. laiskonis doing something with a pan..if anyone can figure out the contents of what's in the pan..maybe that'll give us a hint if it is a dessert or savory battle.
  9. did flay deserve to win?? if every iron chef america episode has the iron chefs winning, then that just really sucks. they should have a well-known food critic from japan on the judging panel.
  10. does anyone know who won the flay vs. bayless battle?
  11. Feb 13 is the batali vs. laiskonis battle.

    Ketchup

banana ketchup is a staple in pretty much any filipino kitchen(though you don't taste the banana but it's a bit sweeter than heinz ketchup). Thanks for all of your feedback.
  13. ketchup is made from tomatoes and other ingredients etc. how can it be used in a dessert? if pastry chefs can use foie gras, black truffles, olive oil in dessert, why not ketchup?
  14. i saw the flay vs. bayless episode, kinda bored me. i can't wait for the batali vs. laiskonis episode and the last one which i think will have chef alex lee as the challenger.
  15. 1. yes 2. the food-related film i saw so far is Chocolat(would that count). A lot of people are saying that babette's feast is a good food-related movie. Has anyone seen that movie?
  16. does murray's cheese shop sell unpasturized stiltons or any other unpasturized cheeses?
  17. does anyone know who are the pastry chefs in this challenge?
  18. a hint of lemon is best in my opinion. i haven't tried oysters with caviar yet. what kind of caviar do you accompany oysters with?
  19. growing up in southeast asia i loved(and still do) strawberry flavored pocky than the chocolate covered ones..also the yan yan's..very very good..you can find most of these kinds of snacks and more..at oriental markets. there's one snack called panda and it's a cookie shaped like a panda filled inside with a chocolate filling. very good.
  20. jacques torres chocolates is pretty much the only chocolatier i've tried so far in nyc..though i wish that Mary's chocolate of japan would open a store in nyc..their chocolates were very good..never knew wasabi and chocolate can go so good together.
  21. i like daniel boulud's website because not only it provides the menus and things like that, but also provides a background on his chef de cuisines, sommelier, etc. jean georges' site lacks a lot of stuff. it's too bland for me and it stinks he doesn't mentions the guys who keep his restaurants running, like tony disalvo or johnny luzzini.
  22. likes: Julia Tony Jacques Pepin Jacques Torres Mario dislikes: Rachel Ray(her usage of EASY O-O AND OJ at practically every episode of her show is just too old and ughh..hate it..why can't she just say extra virgin olive oil or orange juice? the fact that she "tips" the waiters a buck is extremely stupid. her perkiness is annoying beyond belief) emeril martha calorie commando-yuck

    Bubble Tea

i like bubble tea with the lighter-colored tapioca balls..unlike the darker ones which i'm not fond of. does anyone know where bubble tea originated?? yes, in asia..but does anyone know which country?

    Ethnic Pop

i like ramune soda from i think japan. from where i get it, it's a 1.19 or so. there's a marble inside the bottle while you drink it..really cool. a friend introduced it to me and been drinking it ever since
  25. i'd like to see the episode with alex lee and cat cora. alex lee's for sure going to win hands down. did they approach ruth reichl, i mean she is also a food writer.
