The Zojirushi model, linked above, is in my gold box again, another $20 off, now for $110.49. Check yours if you're interested, I don't see how much lower it can go. Note: New ASIN number, so click the link in this post, not the one upthread. This one will show it on sale for $120, then check the gold box (but of course, there's no guarantee that it will be in there.

The incredible amazing Chefmate saucepan and more
Rachel Perlow replied to a topic in Kitchen Consumer
I generally use the 3 qt. sauce pan to make rice -- the nice thick bottom helps it cook evenly without burning. I have a nice KitchenAid Saucier that I use for actual sauces. I love the 16-quart stockpot, but that's not for sale online, the 8 and 12 quart ones are though. Chefmate 12-quart pot, currently $25 Chefmate 8-quart pot, currently $35 (yes, more than the 12-quart) Chefmate 8-pc. Cookware Set, currently $100 -
An extension of this is that the more people you go with the less the meal costs per person.

Does a fried oyster come atop the salad?

I don't generally like the mohn filling (sp?). I find the poppy seed too uniformly sweet with no contrasting tartness. I like a little flavor in the triangle, so I prefer the fruit fillings. Even the prune. Mmm lekvar!

From the article: Something sounds earily familiar.

The guys who the shoe fits, gets to keep the shoes. Ondine gets to keep the vodka! I was going to suggest "combining" them in a blender. But, if the party idea isn't in (I really love that idea), then I'd just get them out of your sight be giving them to Goodwill. I'd love to be a fly on the wall when he calls looking for his Bruno Magli's and you tell him that anything he left behind has been given away.

Wash the wax off a candle??? You can't wash the dirt off a pile of manure either, but you can wash dirt of a cucumber.

Oh, I knew the difference between a blade and a burr, but Amazon seems to have grinders that look like burr, labeled mills and not burr, so I didn't know if there was any difference in there. However, that link was valuable for explaining the difference between Wheel and Conical burr grinders. And why one is the latter is more expensive than the former. Here are some 5-star consumer rated grinders on Amazon.com: For $20 you can get a regular coffee grinder like these: Toastmaster or Bosch MKM 6000 In the $50 price range there was only one 5-star: DeLonghi DCG59 Retro Burr Grinder And, in the over $200 price range, without getting into the ridiculously overpriced strata: Innova i1 Espresso Coffee Grinder Also interesting, are some manual coffee grinders. What are people's opinions of grinders like these? Coffee/Spice Mill, $60, Dean and Deluca or Peugeot Costa Rica Natural Coffee Mill

Nope, it was a wedding shower gift! Actually, it is a coffee mill, not a burr grinder. What is the difference between the two? I thought they were the same, but Amazon lists them as different categories.

Jay -- we use a burr grinder (but a basic Braun model). The thing I call a spice grinder, is a coffee grinder, but I don't use it for coffee. Our coffee grinder is most similar to this one:

Warner was excited to share with us the latest from Toast-N-Serve, the Magic Wrap, so he sent us one a few weeks ago. I finally tried it today, here are some pictures: A big difference between the old bags and the new wraps is in assembling the sandwich. You can do it directly on the wrap and avoid handling the buttery bread. Buttered Sandwich on open bag, all you have to do now is assemble the bag. Fold it over, tuck in the corners and snap the bag closed. This is the only part that's a little messy, you have to stick a finger inside so you don't smush the sandwich snapping the bag closed. Closed bag Toast the sandwich just like with the old bags Careful, it's hot! I use a butter knife to lift it out of the toaster, those little slots are very convenient. The other big difference between the old bags and the wraps is that you can really see the mess on these. That's buttery burnt crumbs and the arrow points to some cheese that melted into one of the snaps. But because it opens up flat, it is very easy to clean. I used a brush to get the cheese out of the snap. I can only imagine how not clean my older toaster bags are, now that I've gotten one really clean. Mmm, toasty sandwich

Some D'Artagnan products are also available via amazon, for the same, or lower, prices -- click the link at the bottom of the page and search for foie gras. Or, click some of the links below: Whole Lobe of Goose Foie Gras from Dean and Deluca, $160, 1.8 lb, imported from France. Canadian Whole Lobe Of Fresh Goose Foie Gras (Goose Liver), $93.74, 1.9 lb, flash frozen, vacuum packed Block Of Goose Foie Gras by Rougie, $31.46, 5.10oz from Gourmet Food Store, "Produit de France." Many other products available in Amazon's Gourmet Food department, including a $720 tin (for over 2 lbs) of truffled goose foie gras pate!

What other kinds of herbs do you like to include in your summer rolls? Thai basil, mint, and cilantro (both the long leafed Vietnamese version and the parsley-look-alike version) are all I've ever seen served with them.

Every so often I do a search for books & products mentioned on eGullet and check to make sure the amazon links for them are eGullet commission links. When they aren't, I either edit the post or just post a new one, like I did above. I realized the other day, that including a link to the amazon link instructions might be helpful for those unfamiliar with the procedure (teach a man to fish...).
-
No biggie, and that's why I started adding the link to instructions instead of only adding the book link. Thanks for the effort! Ondine -- Get Caller ID and don't answer his calls, or at least start screening with your answering machine. That is, I hope he called you and you didn't call him.

Any response yet from Customer Service? I hope you just brought it back to Target if you were unhappy with it.

I've been using ther Bodum Santos automatic since I got it for Christmas. When the proportions of coffee and water are right it makes very very good coffee. It has taken me lots of trial and error to find out the right proportions. I use more grounds than the 1 tbs per 6 oz. water, esp[ecially when I am making 6 or fewer cups. 8-10 cups, the ration is about 1.25 tbs per 6 oz. water. But this can vary with the particular beans and roast I'm using. It is not rocket science but it isn't automatic either. Bodum Santos Vacuum Coffeemaker is currently half-off at Amazon, $40. There's also a little video you can watch showing how it works.
