I agree that you may need to calibrate your oven. If I had them in my oven at 400 for 40 minutes, there'd be some burnt bits in there.

I called and they are open on Mondays. We're going tonight. They are not the same people who ran Pho Van Tuan, and are not related to Little Saigon either. One of the waiters from Little Saigon is now working there, but not the cooks, "our cook much better than them," said the owner with whom I just spoke. FYI - They are using the same phone number as mentioned upthread. However, since they are under new ownership, the pictures above no longer apply. We'll bring our camera tonight.

Hmm, I wonder if this place is any relation to Burnet BBQ? (2 locations in Union, NJ.) Not quality-wise, because we usually like their food, but the description of the dishes sounds just like what they have (only better), especially the sides (boiled potatos & cabbage or rice & fries). Nutley Resident: it should only be about a 20 minute drive for you, we prefer the food at the Burnet Ave location (for take out), but they have better seating at the other store... Burnet Barbeque -- Union, NJ (908) 688-8897 -- 1275 Stuyvesant Ave (908) 687-0313 -- 1363 Burnet Ave Hmm, here's the only previous mention of Burnet Barbeque on eGullet. Here's a pre-eGullet post of mine about it on CH, and another one by someone else.

(I have a feeling that Brooks read Squeat's blog, and thought, "Hey, I ought to put my "Red Beans and Rice w/sausage" recipe on that thread," but then he forgot to do it. Months later, he's convinced himself he did. )

Oh I am so disapppointed. You ask for our advice, we give it and the place you decide to go to is one of the ones mentioned in your first post, after saying you couldn't get a res at the other restaurant mentioned in your first post. Did try to make a res at any of the other places recommended to you? I don't mean to sound too harsh, but it really makes me frustrated when people (not just you, Curlz) ask for advice, and then don't take it. I see in the post before last, that you did tell your boyfriend about the other restaurants and he wanted to go to Portofino. But, if Portofino was booked, you should have tried the other italian option (Cinque Figlie) before CSC, IMO.

This is the link to Squeat's blog. No post by Mayhaw Man.

Just to show you the depths of my searching depravity: This seemed like the most likely thread, but you never posted in it. Here's a post by you that mentions beans, but no recipe. No beans in this recipe for Venison Sauce Piquant, but you did say "I will stick this in recipe gullet sometime shortly so it will be easier to find," and haven't yet. No recipes in there by you. Very little to do with beans, but I love this post by you about kids and corporate eating.

I'm sure I heard that somewhere that soups and stocks can be kept in the fridge almost indefinitely as long as you bring them to a boil every three days.

OK, I've done a very thorough searching and I can't find the post or recipe that Mayhaw Man claims to have posted. I give up.

I used to go to a place that made the best ravioli, it was a black (squid ink) pasta with a lobster filling atop a saffron cream sauce. Mmm. So, what I'm suggesting here is making your seafood filling (the mousseline sounds good) and serve the pasta with saffron cream. I like the idea of keeping the scallops whole as well. Perhaps just make the filling with shrimp and cook the scallps in the cream sauce for just a minute or two before serving? Start with a thick sauce as the scallops will thin it out.

I thought the potato trick was for too much salt. If you do end up making a pot of bland chili, then offer three versions: the super hot, medium and mild.

Sorry, we didn't bring the camera. Maybe you can ask Marco Canora to post some to Hearth's website during his Q&A.

Wow, it is selling for more than twice the list price on Amazon. Here's a link: Simple Art of Vietnamese Cooking.

Oh, if you end up at J&T's, note that you can reserve lobster as well. They're only open Thursday -Sunday, and when they're out, they're out. -
So, curlz, be sure to post about where you decided to go and give us a report. For most of the places mentioned above, it shouldn't be too difficult to get a reservation, but for a Saturday night, it's a good idea to make one.

OK, I was also going to recommend Kinara and Joe & Tess. For Italian, you might like to try La Vecchia Napoli, it's such a lovely little place, and they do beautiful tableside service on the fish. All of these restaurants are in Edgewater, basically right across from the Whole Foods on River Road (J&T is up a side street). As long as tommy brought up Ruth's Chris, and if you want to be right in Weehawken, I'm going to recommend Chart House -- yes, it's a chain, but such a view of Manhattan. I did a secret shopper meal there in 2001 and it was very nice. -
I'm looking. I miss the search function where you could include the poster's username. Any more hints?

Oops, no, what I meant was that we used to live in Cedar Knolls (next to Morristown) and now we don't, and haven't been to those restaurants in a while, which is a shame, because they're both so good. I didn't know that they were both formerly in that corner spot. I always worry when a small place moves into bigger digs. Our favorite spot, when Jason and I first began dating, was a little Portuguese place. We just loved it. It occupied the space on the right hand side of what is now Tim Shaefer's cusine (the left hand side used to be a Foot Locker or something). They moved to Randolph and opened a great big place with a full bar. The chef/owner changed to the owner/Maitre'd and the food just wasn't the same, not bad, but just not the same as when the owner was cooking. And the space is so large, I don't think they usually fill the dining room. They are still in business, so I guess they're doing OK, we haven't been there in a few years. Hey, if someone who lives in the area cares to check it out, I'd love to know how they're doing: Picadinho Restaurant Address: 16 Old Brookside Rd, Randolph, NJ 07869 Phone: (973) 895-3110

Please report back, I'm glad that place reopened, but it makes me wonder if Little Saigon will come back. Actually, if Little Saigon just moved to that location, that would be fabulous -- more seating!

If you could give us more a clue as to your wants, we'll be better able to help you. Do you want a view, cheap eats, fancy, ethnic, seafood, sushi, italian, indian, etc.? Welcome to eGullet, BTW. -
Wow, mags is the first person I ever heard complain of too little salt at Craft. I like to use Craft as an opportunity to sample items I haven't tried before, if possible. I know that the ingredient is going to presented in the best possible manner for that food. It's where I first experienced Jerusalem artichokes and morels, for example.
