    Okra

my mom always made it by cutting into small-ish piece or halving lengthwise, rubbing with chili powder and turmeric, and a little salt and sauteeting past the stringiness so it was crispy.
  4. that's what i use. for most people it seems to be too strong, but i love it. actually my friends who are either european or latin or spend a lot of time in europe or latin america, love it like that. my american friends don't like it at all.
  5. is this a known side-affect? granted i was pretty hungry when i finally got a chance to eat, but i've NEVER eaten a whole burrito before. but it just kept tasting....really good. and then by the time i started feeling full it was more than half gone, and well that's not a good stopping point.
  6. you and me both, brother. i'm still uncomfortably full and it's been a couple hours.
  7. i used to not eat onions. never ever. then one day when i was about 26 i developed a caraving for a burger with red onions for lunch. i ate it, and i've been eating onions ever since.
  8. i really like their rice. and this salsa is hot.
  9. eating a chipotle burrito after watching this thread progress. got the barbacoa with hot salsa and guac. and pinto beans. damn this is good.
  10. down where? atlanta ga. apparently rather than garlic sauce, they do oyster sauce for everything. and it's sweet. :(
  11. sorry, but i'm not entirely sure what the problem is? they told you they charge cancellation charges. you cancelled. they charged you. how come you are upset about this when you already knew it was coming?
  12. oh i meant the opposite - the free-range-organic people have the tight yolks that don't break so easily. the grocery store ones are the weak drippy kind.
  13. Freshness. The yolk of a fresh egg is much firmer than that of an old egg. In fact, really fresh eggs are very hard to whip, and even if you try to break the yolk in the frying pan, it won't really run. i've noticed that actually. but like i said - it's the free-range organic veg ones that i notice it with - not the standard eggs. i'll have to look closely at the dates from now on.
  14. so mudpuppie can you explain the egg yolk thing to me? i find with vegetarian, free-range/cage free whatever eggs that i buy - the yolks seem to hold together, like the skin on them is tight....(important when i'm trying to seperate out yolks) but with the grocery store kind, it's like the yolk breaks if i breath on it the wrong way... is that a function of freshness? feed? hen health?

    80's Dessert

Or better yet, get one of those professionally made cakes where they can actually airbrush sugar pictures on them with a computer. I'm thinking the Synchronicity album by the Police, or Darryl Hall and Jon Oates. Or a Madonna cover. oh wait. WHAM! or The Breakfast Club. Or the chick on the "Rio" album - the colors would go nicely with raspberry coulis. oh my god yes...an airbrushed nagel print oin the cake. how horrificly 80s!

    80's Dessert

from http://www.leitesculinaria.com/features/dining10.html if i recall correctly "death by chocolate" was a big deal in the 80s.

    80's Dessert

*lol* fi - you are making me laugh!
  18. i'm gonna have to agree, altho McDs is the deathstar of the evil empire, chipotle's at least form their website, seems a cut above the usual fast food.
  19. hey! you go skiing at Gore? god i miss that place. and toggenburg as well.
  20. they are 90% owned by McD's, tho.
  21. don't get me started on espresso makers. my roomamte has this stupid thing taking up outlet and counter space in the kitchen. i'd much rather have the toaster there - something we use, but she insists that she will someday use the damn espresso maker. i have a sneaking suspicion she insists on taking up counter psace iwht it, because it appears "cool".
  22. What do they do, yank the beak off the bird? So she can't peck them when they steal her eggs that she wants to protect and roost on? no so they won't peck at each other and themselves in an effort to cope with overcrowding.
  23. i buy vegetarian cage-free eggs. a couple of reasons: 1. with the flax seed used in the hens' diet, the eggs wind up higher in omega-3 fatty acids, whicH is important to me nutritionally. 2. i don't have to worry about pig parts, cow parts or back in the day - chicken parts being part of the feed. 3. I prefer cage-free from an anti-factory-farming perspective. it's mainly reason 1 tho. that and they taste better, and seem fresher. at least the yolks stay together a little easier than regular eggs.
  24. *lol* not the horrible part - the hot-sauce doused ham bit. that seems so damn..un-syracusan.
