@Shel_B, @Smithy Here’s  a clip where Julia Child uses the “finger in loop”, but it’s on the countertop.

The fickle fecal finger is still inside the rim of the bowl.

I think the ring is most useful, as it's used here in Julia's kitchen...

Note to the right of the doorway, hanging halfway down.

Not really.  Her thumb dips in at the start, but her beating technique has the thumb bracing the ring tightly between it and the index finger.

A better grip is the index finger down through the ring, the thumb bracing on one side and the rest of the fingers on the opposite.

I checked my old Farberware set--they have two flanking rings.  My copper beating bowls only have one.

re: the ring :

w the JC item , my guess it was added to the FR item , so you could hang it on the wall.

its copper , after all , and used for beating egg whites

same w the heavy copper cookware :

you hung it somewhere thus it was easy to9 get to .

just saying .

and

entre nous :

I met Julia Child twice , while in college :

I was getting off the red-eye , student standby , SFO => BOS

and she and her husband  , 25 yards behind her ( JC was tall , her husband , much shorter. JC walked at her own pace )

I said hello , and she turned around , and said ' Why Hello ! '

and we chatted for a tiny bit.

the nicest , friendliest person Id met in the BOS causways .

OK exactly as above .  probably the only one , BTW :

it was the Red-Eye , for sure

and I was carrying . ??  50 lbs of carry- ons , strapped on

etc ?

back then , if you carried it on , you got to stuff the stuff

any where you could !

 late ' 60's . early '70's.

United Air Lines   , at its  best !

Filet w green beans , the meal .

I've had a series of copper beating bowls, and they've all come with rings.  Not so for formed SS mixing bowls.

Lucky you to have met Julia Child!

On a high shelf, as opposed to pegboard.  Sadly, my kitchen does not have as much wall space for pegboard as Julia's did.  I did steal that idea for a corner, however...

If they nest, you can hang several together--they tend to be light.

There's also the thumbs-down-through-hole grip, with fingers splayed underneath.  That's pretty stable, but nothing beats a coiled side towel or a dedicated bowl stand.  https://matferbourgeatusa.com/product/matfer-bourgeat-mixing-bowl-stand/

The dedicated bowl stand is something I haven't seen before. I don't plan to buy one, but at one time I might have done. Thank you for that.

YVW.  Well, yeah, it's pretty much a unitasker.

As long as we're cruising Memory Lane, there're the Green's Gripstand bowls, a progenitor of Mason Cash.  See, https://www.google.com/search?sca_esv=d153955c96a940f8&rlz=1C1CHFX_enUS605US605&sxsrf=ADLYWIK-E9vYMcfKEwd014SZTJjRLdwA9Q:1731979743068&q=Greene's+Gripstand&udm=2&fbs=AEQNm0Aa4sjWe7Rqy32pFwRj0UkWxyMMuf0D-HOMEpzq2zertRy7G-dme1ONMLTCBvZzSlhO4TKEdryJiDx5bWrq9blH_B26AK93iugUaj1giMDocC7Pa_NFI9hZpkIpldOMq66j_qp-KmZD7U0BnwqAxdIkTy_OT1r_9x1uhMoUxi64_CONnidPYb3tI4APRgyOWSAOaifRuLKhNnsa3NY2M-0i16j9Vw&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwio19-qn-eJAxWHAzQIHa0LCJ8QtKgLegQIFxAB&biw=1242&bih=568&dpr=1.1

Today I learned… Thanks! I’ve not run across these. Very clever design. Here’s how to use them, for the uninitiated.

That finger is getting awfully close.  And you still have to HOLD the bowl...put it on a friggin' towel, curled up.
