Fish and Chips in PDX and SEA

I don't know about you guys, but nothing says summer to me like a cold glass of IPA and some fish and chips. Any favorite dining places in Seattle or Portland that help you with this summer ritual?

Mine:

PDX-The Horse Brass Pub-great beer selection and the best fish and chips I've had. Plus, they serve a Scotch Egg(had boiled egg wrapped in sausage and then deep fried). My only complaint is that at times it can be a bit smoky, but if you go on an afternoon, it's usaully empty.

SEA-Elysian Tangletown-the Elysian beer is easily the best beer in the Northwest, and some of the best in the world. I recommend getting their summer brew, Bete Blanche, while enjoying their fish and chips.

Ditto on Horse Brass. Great fish and chips, really cool atmosphere and a fantastic selection of beers. After being outside in the bright summer sun, I usually stumble around a bit before my eyes adjust to the dim. But as long as I know where the bar is all is well.

I'm not sure I'd call the chips part of the fish and chips at Horse Brass great. The ones I've had could hardly qualify as chips, they were more deep fried potato quarters. I found the fish very tasty and I liked their batter style, but I wish that they would fry it in hotter oil. It was really a little soggy with oil from the oil being too cool. If you could fry their fish and batter in Cafe Castagna's hot peanut oil and serve it with CC's chips/fries that would be my dream fish and chips.

I really like Corbett Fish House but it is hardly in the same pub fish and chips catagory. It doesn't really resemble the Wisconsin fish fry I went to either, but it is closer to that style then a Brit pub style. I love how non-oily the food is from being fried at high heat, how the the coating is just a dusting of rice flour which keeps the fish nice and juicy. Their chips are not bad, but not great either. I like getty the spicy catfish coating on the halibut. Some people find them too pricey.

Anyone been to the new place in NE pdx?

I guess the Tangletown location must have opened since I moved away from Seattle (good lord, has it been almost three years ago already?!?), but I always adored the fish and chips at the original Capitol Hill location--wonderful fluffy beer-batter on the fish, they had. And while I'm not much of a beer-drinker, I always made an exception for the yummy Elysian brews.

My husband and daughter raved about their fish and chips at the Hall Street Grill in Beaverton, OR. My favorite in this area is actually in Astoria, OR at the Ship Inn. It is an authentic pub located right on the Columbia River with beautiful views of the bridge from the dining room. It's been a locals favorite for over twenty years, always great! :)

I like the Totem House for fish and chips - across from the Ballard Locks.

I love to sit outside in the sun and have a snack!

I don't think they have beer though

I like Maggie Bluffs (under Palisade) and the Brooklyn for Fish & Chips.

I used to really like these too. When I had them a month or so ago, they were not as I remembered. Very flat pieces of fish, not flavorful at all. The crust was like cracker crumbs and needed tons of salt (I like a more tempura-style batter). Have you been recently? I wasn't sure if they had changed or my memory had failed me. Probably the latter

I'm a big fan of the Owl n' Thistle in Post Alley and the Lockspot, except their tartar sauce sucks.

Owl and Thistle has a great band playing Friday, 5/27 at 9;00. Go eat fish and chips and hear my bass playing son in Sambusa.

In Port Townsend, during the summer months, there's a fry shack setup on the dock that makes fantastic lemon-dill battered fish. You can eat on the dock, or if you're in your boat, just pull up under the shack, and they'll send your lunch down in a basket. I think that this shack is run by one of the local restaurants.

I haven't been in at least 6 + months. That's a bummer---sounds like they changed their recipe because I swear they were tempura battered fish & chips.

Wish I saw this earlier, I regualrly go to see the Owl and Thistle Band play, they are a guaranteed good time.
