Mb70 - Sadly, no storage facilities... they have such a huge turnover in folks there are no lockers or nothing...

Elyse - Excellent suggestion. Will go shopping Day After Christmas (oh god, what am I saying?!?!?!)

Fat Guy - On an up note, on Christmas Eve we got approved for a house in Napa (renting). We'll be spending the next few weeks moving there and Shawn will be able to transfer to a new store that sits in the same strip mall as an In-N-Out Burger. I think he will have no problem starting in on your solution!

Tryska - My commute will finally be shortened!!!!

Carolyn, your boyfriend needs to see a doctor NOW about that pain in his kidney area. AFTER he gets the OK from his doc, THEN start messing with his diet like a lab rat!

And sesame seeds are one of the best low weight/high calorie, natural - as opposed to processed - foods around.

I do agree with you completely but he is one of those people who have doctor phobias (early childhood doctor-related traumas)... I can only badger him so much but it has got to be his decision. In the meantime, at least I can try to feed him well...

Honestly, Carolyn, kidneys are not something you want to screw around with. A trip now can save a couple dozen later. Or how about a nice stay in hospital?

Goulash.

He actually thinks it is the glands that are in that area... I dunno. I'll work on him, that's for sure.

And what the heck are we all doing this X-Mas morning discussing such problems???? Shame on us!

My family with the Christmas spirit moved to Florida with all the food.

I'm sorry...

We made merry last night (I'll be posting later about my Cassoulet) and four bottles of wine and two bottles of champagne later, I'm the only one awake this morn.

Take care!

Oh Carolyn, you know that at heart we're all just a bunch of Chinese/Jewish/etc. mothers! And as my French makeup artist said sincerely to me yesterday - "There are no problems - only solutions." And it's already dark here in Paris - and I'm buzzed on vin chaud.

Joyeux Noel!

Did you see Warren Zevon's last interview on David Letterman? Well, he explained his "sudden" onslaught of cancer was due to his same phobia of docs.Pain in the kidneys could indicate that he's torn something and is leaking blood, for criminie's sake! So,you do what you have got to and drag that boy's donkey to a doc. Please.

Well, I gained 4 lbs. in 4 days. Interesting to be sure, but I'm not quite sure it's what I want. 4 lbs. in 4 days = 4 lbs. of FAT. Not complaining now....but down the road I might.

I have struggled with being underweight my whole life and putting on weight has been very difficult. At the age of 20 I was unable to join the US Army (to get the GI Bill to pay for college) because I didn't hit the weight requirement of 109lbs, I am close to 5ft 8. I went on a fast food diet, drinking milk shakes with every meal and eating at one sitting, 2 Big Macs, a side of nuggets, large fries and a shake. 6 months later I was 122lbs and was able to join the army. After that my weight leveled off to about 112-115 and stayed like that, returning very quickly after all 3 pregnancies. About a year ago I got tired of being so thin and decided to work at gaining weight again. I went back to my fast food diet. Milkshakes whenever I drove past McDonalds and cinnamon rolls from Starbucks as often as possible, I also stopped working out (it is impossible to gain weight when I exercise) I am currently a very happy 125lbs and have slowly been bringing my workouts back, even though I am thin I am far from tone!

It has been a struggle and I have tried every weight gain thing possible, just like how diets are different for different people, so is gaining weight, he needs to find what works for him. He definitely need to start with eating as many full meals as possible, supplemented with high calorie-power snacks.

4lbs in 4 days = 4lbs of WATER, pumpkin.

unless of course you have been eating 3600 extra calories a day for the last 4 days.

Yes, Caroline, Shawn should see a doctor. Sometimes you gotta be mean and just say "Grow up. You love me right? So do it."

My husband also hates MD's and prefers naturopaths, but because of being Hep C positive and having a horrible kidney stone this past summer while we were on vacation and some other things, he went to a gastrointeroligist for a follow up, which led to TWO colonoscopies, and removal of more than 15 pollups (sp?)last month!

Thank god none were malignant but now we know he needs to be checked every year, so we can stay on top of it.

I said to the MD "how can this be? he eats about 5 pieces of fruit per day, tons of greens, salads, no red meat" (well lots of junk foods-too many carbs, sweets also) and he said "it's heredity". His diet has nothing to do with it.

So, please ask him to go...

PS. My hubby also decided to start organic juicing of all days yesterday, on CHRISTMAS MORNING, so dragged out the old juicer and proceeded to juice carrot, beet, celery and spinach, bottle and label all separately, tried to find room in the fridge amongst the extra holiday food, while I was waiting for him to clean up the vegetable sludge and get the f**k out of there so I could start my full Xmas dinner, which of course took all day, seeing there was a raw and yet un-dressed with sage butter 20 lb turkey in our fridge! Thank you for letting me vent

PPS. I also got him Zevon's last CD for Xmas. He was great.
