LA Thai Restaurant Tasting Tour

1:00pm Ruen Pair: see above

2:30pm BhankanomThai, sweet shop: everyone bought a ton of sweet stuff to take home or eat right there. Awesome place.

around 3:00pm: Thai market next door. Everyone except a couple people left at this point.

around 4: To rest our stomachs, we saw Big Fish at I think it was the Cinedome theater. Awesome theater. At one point in the movie, they're in a Chinese playhouse, but the guards were speaking Korean and doing what I assume to be tae kwon do. That was funny.

around 6 or 7: Jitlada: see above.

Is there interest in visiting the Wat Thai Temple in North Hollywood?

The Thai-La site has quite a bit of "dated" information, possibly most notable, the Wat Thai LA Website link.

The one given will land you on a Viagra pitch.

This is the correct URL for the temple itself.

The foodcourt is about as "real" as Thai food gets outside of Thailand.

If you want an even better experience, plan on a Thai holiday, such as Songkran, Thai New Year, coming up April 13th through 15th (and possibly the weekend before or after?)

I will try to find out if they plan to expand the foodcourt over either weekend.

Hmm, I clicked and reclicked on the temple link on each page and didn't get a viagra pitch. I got the temple. Almost disappointed.

Someone at the Thai dinner last time was mentioning that we might try doing something like a European place, not too expensive, something like a small bistro. Just for a change. On the other hand, I never get tired of dim sum. Also, we haven't done Mexican as a group yet. Just some ideas.

Still, I think everyone is probably interested in the temple. You know you'll always find willing eaters with this group,it's just a matter of when.

I'd love to go back to the Temple. I think Stupid American's idea of a Thai holiday is terrific.

I'd still be up for Jitlada, and for maybe some of the other spots Food Zealot mentied earlier. We have to finish this job and tally up the votes!!!

Sorry I missed your previous outing. I'd love to join the next one (Thai, European or Mexican). I'd love to visit the Temple. I've heard that if you do go, you need to arrive quite early as the parking is very sparse.

The parking lot gets filled but there is street parking throught the surrounding quiet neighborhood . There seemed to be more cars than people the day I went- but that's LA !

You can park in the residential area, behind the Wat.

There's an entrance in the rear.

Also, produce vendors are often selling stuff out back, streetside.

While the Wat Thai Temple Songkran Festival will be on April 10 and 11, I just learned that the Thai Town area is holding their celebration the week before, on Sunday, April 4th. Hollywood Boulevard will be shut down in that area, with food booths (many of the vendors from the Temple and many of the restaurants we discuss on eG), a parade starts at 10am, with cultural activities and the whole gamut. More details are available here.

I know one of the organizers socially, and it sounds like it will be a great event.

Parking is always a challenge in Thaitown.

It will be much worse during Songkran.

A Metrorail ride to the Hollywood/Western station would be a smart option.

This event took place before our events policy was in place. Having another Thai food event would be good, but for it to be arranged on the forums it would have to follow the new guidelines.
