Flying with my Knives

Recommended Posts

Howdy everyone, I am flying from Portland to LA for a new job. I've never had to bring my knives with me on an airplane. I assume I wouldn't be able to bring it through carry-on and the thought of losing all my tools terrifies me. Should I trust the airport baggage system or should I trust the postal service and mail them to somebody there? As I'm writing this I think I could probably check it at the airport and purchase some sort of insurance...and I know I can insure through the usps...at any rate...thoughts anyone? Thanks...

Ship them by FedEx or UPS - do NOT trust them to checked baggage.

I never lost my own knives but did have a gift set, packed inside a large suitcase, covered with clothing and etc., stolen when I flew from L.A. to Chicago. A camera was also taken.

"There are, it has been said, two types of people in the world. There are those who say: this glass is half full. And then there are those who say: this glass is half empty. The world belongs, however, to those who can look at the glass and say: What's up with this glass? Excuse me? Excuse me? This is my glass? I don't think so. My glass was full! And it was a bigger glass!" Terry Pratchett

Definitely fedex or UPS. Depending on whats in your bag, it might be worth the extra couple of dollars to insure it just for your piece of mind even though Ive never had them lose any of my packages.
