Hi all - wondering if you might be able to help... my best friend is looking to hold a small wedding (60pax roughly) in May and needs ideas on where to book. She wants somewhere relaxed, fun and with great food - a beautiful English country location would be preferred (she is looking at River cottage and places like that) Does anyone know of anywhere decently priced for a casual countryside in Soth East England (she LOVED The Pig Country House Hotel in the New Forest for example but they are already booked up..) Thanks in advance for any help!

if your willing to travel http://www.tuddenhammill.co.uk/ is very good and serving great food by Paul Foster

Randomnly they looked at that yesterday but you have to take all the rooms too and they are £250 each which is a bit steep...

Neither of these are based on personal experience (we got married on Vancouver Island because even with the cost of shipping the rellies out there it was still a fraction of the price of the London equivalent) but reviews are good and they look nice.

Brewhouse, Tunbridge Wells

The Mill, Gordleton, New Forest

The Griffin is one of my favourite pubs around these parts and they cater for weddings. There is a norman church in the lovely village you can tie the knot in and they have rooms.

I can also recommend Ockenden Manor.

I really fancy eating at Ockenden Manor, but its miles and miles away from us.

Any chance of some more info on the food, or even better a review with some piccies

If willing to shift to the other coast, Margot's Bistro, Padstow would by my choice. Depending on your demands for specific date, it's my sense that you could book the house for an intimate nuptial. (Can we come?)

There is a thread. I didn't post my last meal, but that was a couple of years ago now I would think.

I know - it popped up on my twitter feed yesterday. She's waiting for them to contact her as they've probably got a lot on right now, hoping she can still have it there but maybe in a marquee... At least no one was killed or injured in the fire so she's trying to stay positive...
