Yeast leavened.

That's a good, flexible category.

If it had to be just one recipe, I'll choose Peter Reinhart's 'Struan'.

You know, it's easier to pick which child I like better. Naan bread, because it can do so many things and cooked right it has all kind of textures.

NB. In self defense, my 16 yo daughter is currently an alien.

Ooh, good question. It's a toss up for me: south-Louisiana style french bread (like a baguette, only airier & more tender), or french sourdough. But square-sided soft yeast dinner rolls (the brown-topped kind made with DMS) are a very close third...

HungryC, I've never heard of Louisiana-style french bread and I'm fascinated.

Impossible question to answer!

But if I must choose it would be french country...simple yet oh so good!

How about we all live together, and share our "one bread for life" selection?

I want a dense, moist, heavy, soft, crispy, crusty, seeded, Jewish rye.

I'm always up for sharing.

The rye sounds great, but it's gotta have onions!

Hmm, no brioche takers.  Interesting.

I definitely could get sick of brioche very quickly.

HA I swear I entered my response before I saw your comment.

My vote goes to... fresh French style baguette (with pain Poilane a close second), and finally, a home made "tortilla de harina" with butter.
