  1. That might work too....I am grilling and smoking, I really want to stay out of the house if I can....i could just cook em up and throw the quesadilla's right on the grill...Well, keep the idea's coming, I wont start cooking for a few hrs....But when I do its chaos...as I have so much stuff going on at once...and nobody helps me...They just drink beer!
  2. Now thats a good idea...Might have to try that one..i will take photo's of dinner and post them here!
  3. Ellis Island...best steak $4.99 can buy!
  4. OK gang, I am going to smoke briskets, and babybacks tommorow plus fire up the gril for some shrimp skewers.....I saw some frozen lobster chunks at costco for 9 bucks and had to snag them...I was thinking of adding some chunks to the shrimp skewers and just grilling them..or par boiling, then grilling....or just saute and forget the grill...so what do you think? the chunks are about the size of ice cubes I will post photos...good or bad
  5. I just bought 2 briskets and some babybacks...gonna fire up the smoker on Sunday!
  6. OK, I have been looking forward to a report, so where are the photos!...How was the weather, I know that it has rained in the past...Man I bet the air smelled great at the shoreline park, all that smoke!
  7. Oh my god...its 0730 in the morning and now I am craving BBQ....North Carolina BBQ!
  8. Carnitas...hands down, although that shredded beef is good too...I love the "medium" salsa...so much flavor..Damn I am hungry now...wish I had eaten breakfast!
  9. Man I love it, who the hell cares where it came from...as long as its here!...Speaking of Kung Pao...there is a little place behind our police station that makes the absolute best....its so great cause i can leave the back door of the Detective bureau and be there in 2 mins on foot...plus the whole lunch deal is only 4 bucks!....all hail Little Asia
  10. I think it is a responsibility of a good parent to not go to places where a person would come expecting a "nice quite dinner"...on the other hand, my wife and I always take our kids at off peak hours...before lunch, after lunch dinner etc... on the other hand, if you are sitting in a chili's, or other type family place....you have to expect that there will be kids there..so suck it up and deal with it....and if anyone attempted "5 across the eye"...they would be in for a nice suprise and a booking number!
  11. I knew Sakai had one, and I thought that Morimoto could speak English (but they dubbed his voice with some person). Sakai did have one...he had a full on entourage....Morimoto did not, I did find it hard to speak with him...You have to listen hard to understand what he is saying, he has a heavy accent
  12. I don't know, I know that the ratings were off the chart, so it would be a good bet...but with all the talent involved having other commitments I could see it as a "special" a few times a year. If I find anything out I will post it....Maybe Alton Brown will know more...he is doing a Q and A starting the 24th here on e gullet.
  13. What about the "cursed" locations...I am a firm believer in that...I have seen to many place open up and then fail in the same spots...over and over again
  14. Oh my god....I have never heard that one before, I can hardly type cause I am laughing so hard!...just so you know, the whole "cop vs donut shop" thing started out because 20-30 yrs ago guy on night shift (while everyone else is home) had no place to do paperwork of stay warm and still be out in the local neighborhoods....so the donut shops were the only places open, kind of a no brainer....thats how it all started.

    Cooking Tunes!

I play air guitar and air drums...Just have tomake sure my chefs knife is not in my hand as a drum stick...could be ugly! If I get an ugly run on the line and can handle my business by myself, I'll flash my "rock-horns", which is the most satisfying thing you can do with minimal energy. It doubles as the UT Longhorn symbol, so it's even more excellent in Austin. Andrew

    Cheap 'chokes

Wow, you have all made me very hungry...but artichoke prices are not that low out in C.A. at the moment!
  17. I will order it on the side if I am not sure I will like the dressing, that way I can taste it and if its not good, I can just get another type of dressing....instead of sending a salad back.
  18. its how, who, and at what "angle" the photo's are shot..there a bunch of pervs out there, food photographing is a good "cover" story....not for you of course, cause i know you were taking food pics....i guess here at e gullet, food is kind of our porn..."oh yea baby, i got a nice shot of some flaming shrimp in mexico...what do you got to trade?"
  19. If he was just taking photos of food, we might dispatch an officer to talk to the owner...but that would be it...But I am a sex crimes detective and I would need to know if anything/anyone else were being photographed(trust me it happens alot)....if so, yes I would look into it...trace the plate's and write a search warrant for Holly's house, sieze the film, blah blah blah...but then I would have seen just "food" and no "other stuff and I would have been pissed for wasting my time....and no cops would be eating there for a while!
  20. a few places freaked when I was in Las Vegas for my cheap eats in Vegas article..I took a bunch of pics at the Strat and Ellis Island, they were great but Bourban St and Wild Wild West got kinda wierd on me......I guess its a crap shoot on how people are going to react to the camera
  21. We ate at the Italian place on the Tierra Del Sol course, it had a wonderfull view of the blue ocean and some pretty good food to boot...I also heard "the flame" is a pretty nice place! Bon Bini!

So does the type of music you are listening too while cooking influence your recipies?...Like when I listen to Mana,I tend to use more lemons, oranges and other citrus's and herbs...But when I am listeneing to Iron Maiden...its spices and booze!
