  1. Big Mikes Cheesesteaks....In El Segundo and Hermosa Beach....they are the best...Busy Bee market in San Pedro has amazing sandwichs..they have a turkey dip and a tasty link sausage sandwich...
  2. Do you get the best blue cheese dressing around...Bob's Big Boy..if not you are sure missing something!
  3. If its the one that looks like R2D2 then you have to make sure you watch your temps and flare ups inside...also the water does not lasty long so check that...good luck!
  4. Looks like its coming out pretty good so far!..Where are you...what state?
  5. Wow that is some smoker...I just have the little red R2D2 looking electric smoker...I think it gets too hot as well....Man I have had some extra coin I would be getting me one of yours!
  6. I think selection and price are a big factor...but I would lean more towards selection...I mean I want to see stuff I cant go to my local market and buy, imported stuff, rare brands...that stuff. You should also have good descriptions and maybe some cooking tips for items you will feature on your site.
  7. Well....What is everyone going to be cooking for the holiday weekend?. I am leaning towards skewers of shrimp, sausage and meats with various sauces...I dont know what to make as a starch, beans, rice, or maybe a nice soup...or chili....or gumbo...tell me what you are making, it will help me decide!
  8. I tried an Aussie blue a few months ago, I must admit, pretty good, I would buy it again!
  9. I would go for the skewer thing...a little soy glinger glaze...mmmm good!
  10. Oh, I love a good Danish blue...you are right,I think it is a good cheese for the money....and welcome to e gullet!
  11. Did you post photo's?...I cant see them...dammit, I need photos!
  12. hows that for a pile of mudbugs..thats last weeks rajin cajun bayou bash Oh yea...welcome to e gullet...you are now addicted!
  13. you need to go to the Rajun Cajun in Hermosa Beach. Stephen, the owner is from Layfayette and really knows his stuff....i have been going there for years...Best red beans and rice on the planet....oh yea, think I will go there for lunch today!
  14. Well, i think its running between Borscht, that lovely yellow pepper soup and maybe a few others..i will have to see...i like the color or both of those...I will have to find a place that makes the yellow pepper soup if I do that one....I am sure someplace in L.A. has is on the menu..
  15. That was my thought exactly - Caspian Cuisine in Santa Monica makes a fabulous borscht that would be worthy of photographing... The Borsht would look nice...but an Indian soup could work...What do you all think of a Jamaican pepper pot soup?
  16. Folks, I need e gullet help...I have to find another soup to include in an article about ethnic soups...I have Pho and Mexican Caldo....I need something else to complete a trio...It should look appealing when photographed and fairly easy to make...I have latin and asian covered...so something from another part of the world....also, one that I can make or find in a local restaurant! Rock on! Chris
  17. I am always a big fan of any thread that discusses what people should name the latest "Pho" place in town...those get creative
  18. Nice job for both ofyou guys! I was wondering since e gullet is in the L.A. Times today via Russ Parsons, does anyone know what the "record" for egullet being mentioned in print on a single day is?
  19. This raises the question of how you are getting to the Getty which is some distance from the hotel you mentioned without a rented car. Some sort of bus tour? I don't think you can practically use public transportation to get to the Getty, but maybe I'm overlooking something obvious. If not, why not rent a car given what you'll be paying for cabs, etc.? Depending on the day and time...could be an e gullet dinner!
  20. You're right, by a long shot the best $4.99 steak anywhere. OK, Ellis Island is a bit of a dump and they always make you wait 20 minutes to get a seat (in the hope you'll gamble), but I've had much worse steaks for $20. As for getting the steak for $4.99, just ask it wasn't a problem. The rib and chicken special is awesome as well...6.99 cant be beat..check em out!
  21. AMuse is nice, I ate there a few weeks ago.I would go for a nice breakfast on the patio if the sun was out.
  22. I just posted some photo's from inside Encounter in the California forum yesterday..the thread is about "cool stuff"....I second the going for drinks...food is nothing special, but the view and everything elseis really cool....I love the elevators!...Full on Jetsons!
  23. What hotel are you staying at?..What is the radius you wish to travel and how much do you want to spend on dinner. I would suggest something Mexican or Cuban since you might not have authentic stuff in Hawaii...There is a great Cuban place that is not to far from LAX called Havana Mania in Redondo Beach, its pretty nice and "California Casual". That might be a good call, or try Pancho's in Manhattan Beach...pretty nice and good food, both places are a short ride away from the hotels. if you like small mom and pop places, look at my site for some Chris
  24. They are not tails, but "meat"....they are formed in little cubes....
  25. I ended up poaching some of the "cubes" in old bay seasoned water, then chopping them, adding dijon mustard, mayo tarragon and lemon juice.....chilled and eaten in hot dog bun...it was nothing special, I added to much lemon. I will try a chowder with some of the meat soon!
