Maybe somebody ought to make a new foundation and shun the "old school" once and for all.

One thing about drinking and cooking i learned the hard way, get the prep work done first....many times i have been slicing onions and taken off a little "extra"...but, I must add, it never hurt!
-
OK, can I get this Larb stuff in Los Angeles?....I must be able to, heck you can get anything out here...except real NY pizza....Tejon, any clue to where the Larb is?
-
Gone out for Chinese food!
-
Great thread, keep it coming with the pics too....man I am hungry now!

Welcome to your new addiction (e gullet)!. The Grandma thing, might actually work...I just gotta find 2 working kitchens and 2 willing grandma's in the L.A. area!
-
that was much more than I was expecting.

Low/No Budget folks...all travel will have to be free in exchange for on air recognition...all hotels...same deal! Hill Valley and I were PM'ing about "Grandma Iron Chef" in which we pit old ladies with major home cooking skills in a battle....Battle Jewish Granma vs Cuban Abuella...Could be classic!
-
I am working on a store that would want to participate....We have a "Jons" market opening soon and I am going to hit them up....there is quite a large viewing area for this once it gets going...around 1 million people can watch...Maybe I could do a segment only using whats on "sale" as that influences what people buy....I know I buy stuff on sale all the time...oh yea...and local L.A. e gulleter's....get ready for guest role's!
-
That would be cool...I am going to see if the Chief will go for that...better yet...fly around in other people helicopters and see what they can show me! Kitchen Remodel......Low...closer to No Budget!! Hell if any kitchen is going to get redone its going to be my vintage 50's kitchen...maybe I have enough money tobring it into the 80's....I would love to see if "Ronco"can send me some products!
-
That would be kind fun...I am also thinking of "whats in the bag" cooking challenge...but of course the food in the bag would have to be donated by a market..since there is no budget!
-
If you were given a crew, very little to no budget and had to rely on begging borrowing and stealing....What would you do?....What type of show would you make...travel, cooking, restaurant review? How would you go about it....what would make your show different....I need idea's dammit! Chris

Well,has anybody tried one yet?

Macaroni Grill is pretty decent stuff in my humble opinion. It serves consistantly good food at a fair price in a nice atmosphere....isnt that what we seek in a "chain" restaurant?
-
Cant help you in the valley, but if you come out to the beach, I gotta million places for you!
-
I agree cookin stuff is awesome...but its prettty expensive, but I guess if you gotta have something and they have it....its gonna cost you. On the other hand I just got 2 of the Jamie Oliver T-Fal pans on sale yesterday at Linen and things...Nice pans too!

the last shoe has finally dropped! red eye gravy
Chris Cognac replied to a topic in Southeast: Cooking & Baking
Now how is this gravy best served...should it be thick or thin? I am intrigued by this red eye gravy. -
Did I miss something?....Fill me in on what this is please. Chris

I dont see a problem with that....My in Laws just got back from France last night ( must be nice) and I will ask my F.I.L. about using the Cuban club when we BBQ Sunday night...
-
No we cant go in the station cause the state says the bunks are 3 inches too short!....Amazing....33 million dollars, state of the art and we cant use the new station till we build longer bunks so the crooks can stretch out while they are in jail! I had wanted touse one of the new community rooms with brand new kitchens....so let me work on it a bit, maybe we can use the cuban club which would workout fine. Rules...Has to be bought at a Los Angeles/OC commercial location...I.E.Marie Calenders etc.....no home made....that way it can be "rated" and the results published in the Daily Breeze.. Chris

I have something working at the moment....I just agreed to do a show for time warner and am working out the details....gonna be full on low budget but I will have creative control and a crew...so this could be something that could work for that....it would also make it easier to use the facilities...but a glitch just came up with the new station and we cant move in due to a minor issue (jail beds 3 inches to short).....amazing...anyway, ideas?...yea or nay for show? Chris

Great pics and report, makes me want to go out and get some!

got back 4 hrs ago...it was awesome, I have 300 pics!...Hot tip is Alexanders in the San Lucas marina....flaming shrimp and Taco Rossy....full on local joint....unreal seafood tacos and cheap too..I will post more pics when back from Vegas!

I think that Charlie Trotters is going to be out of my price range...the red bull place sounds like a good one to check out....I am going to do the wooden ship tour as well as the ATV tour....but mostly I am going to hold down a stool at one of the 2 swim up bars at the Presidente Los Cabos where I am staying....I did try some barbacoa at the plaza in Los Cabos last year...some of the best i have ever had....and the lady was selling it out of an ice chest converted into a hot box....does not get more authentic "street food" than that.....and I didnt get sick....think I will get some again!...I will post pics when I am back from cabo and vegas..

Thought I would spring a quick question for you guys...I am heading to Los Cabos for 6 nights and wanted to find at least one small really good authentic place while I am there. I will be writing about the trip for the paper and would love a good "find" to write about. Chris
