  1. I think @Kim Shook ‘s daughter has a popular recipe for a pineapple side dish. Not sure if it’s savory.
  2. I’m pretty stupid— I thought the apartatus was to help make sun tea. Thanks for taking us with you on your trip! Gorgeous as always! @liamsaunt

    Dinner 2023

Wow! The amazing meals posted just in this page alone make me realize that while I live close to some of the “best restaurants” and all types of cuisines, I’d rather dine as a guest in all your homes!
  4. I had the same experience Kim had during a hospital stay 4 years ago. The food was honestly really good. ETA— the food at my local hospital has always been good from what I know. My mom was given a bottle of champagne and offered surf and turf when I was born (1980). I volunteered there for a long time and the cafeteria was great then. The options are great to have, and the food is cooked in house. The hospital center has a lot of national recognition which my parents have flat out said that’s why they want to stay in their home (they live about 2 miles away). This photo, of a husband whose wife was in Morristown Medical Center during Covid went viral, and still gives me chills:
  5. @Margaret Pilgrim I have those in a cart already! 🤣
  6. Thanks this is great to know. I did try these today, they’re pretty addictive and I should eat them sparingly! :

C’est beaucoup d’argent! $50 USD for cordon bleu but with that view and how much it impressed you, it looks and sounds well worth it!
  8. Thanks! Let me know how they are. I found them online at umamicart.com and keep adding items to my cart!
  9. No beans. At all. Hummus and chickpeas are occasional exceptions. I don’t like the texture, the appearance or the consistency.

    Breakfast 2023

Had to react by saying “thanks” to this post. I, like @Anna N cannot abide by beans.

I do the same, unless I’m feeling lazy I will use the microwave in the husk method. I only do that with just picked corn, there’s a farm about .3 miles from me and sometimes I don’t want the heat the stove gives off or I’m impatient. Fresh Jersey corn is one of my favorites

And to make this even more awful, I would hoard boxes of cake mix and mix them with a little water and eat it. I was a very skinny kid. The cake/ water mix came from failed attempts with kids baking “machine”.

    Dinner 2023

I was an extremely picky eater and my father has a chicken/ white fish allergy so more often than not my mom was already cooking two meals. But when my brother and I were made to sit at the table? Forget it. We’d throw food at each other and laugh and the pup would eat it all.

    Lunch 2023

Was it beef carpaccio? So many other proteins and even vegetables have been touted as “carpaccio’ now which I also enjoy.
  16. I think it’s also a more subtle symbol of affluence in the US as well. My local (.3 miles away and I live in a suburb close to farms) Starbucks always has an extremely long drive thru line. It seems like everyone has a Starbucks coffee in hand even with the plethora of Dunkin around here. It’s a weird little bit of suburban culture along with host of other things OT. That said, when I travel domestically and get off a flight I still beeline to any Starbucks kiosk for a Venti Green Tea/ Lemonade unsweetened with two Splendas. I feel like once you go to Starbucks regularly for even a few weeks you know your preferred order and stick to it.
  17. I don’t drink coffee; I never really did. That said; I think, in my experience, Starbucks became a legit excuse to get out of the office for a break. I found this to be true when I worked in the suburbs (but since I don’t drink coffee I never participated) and even more factual when I worked in Manhattan. I lived off Venti Green tea and lemonade unsweetened ice teas. The Starbucks across from my office was usually filled with people from my office or the parent company I worked for (think advertising) and it was totally acceptable to out your phone on DND and mutter “Starbucks” and walk away. Starbucks, in my experience, was the modern day “water cooler”. We all eventually gravitated there; it wasn’t particularly good, but their iced tea is decent. Dunkin doesn’t have remotely decent iced tea.
  18. The burger was cooked decently but it was greasy. The potatoes and vegetables were acceptable if I was in a hospital or other type of setting at best. I feel like the meals are overwhelmingly spiced (the tomato jam was on the side for dipping and had to be doused with liquid smoke) in order to compensate for being reheated for a whole 2 minutes. No big loss, six meals ran me $49. The amount of packaging is honestly overwhelming and not easily recycled. I’ll likely try the one vegan meal I ordered since I think I read those are their strong point but that’s it. Most of the meals are chicken breasts and I’m not a major fan, with cauliflower rice and green berms in various sauces. My apartment smells like hamburger helper. I think Maisey thought it was for her. I’m going to have some Ben and Jerry’s Strawberry Cheesecake ice cream now. I almost ordered Dominos and given my location in Northern NJ that says a lot.
  19. Yes, after one meal I am doubting if I will eat the others. I will probably put them in the freezer and eventually toss them. The flavoring is strong, especially the liquid smoke. I tried this tonight:
  20. I don’t have high hopes but the 50% off deal and the ability to cancel at any time is enough to motivate me to try it.
  21. Her being called a “phony” and getting “her job because of skin color and not experience” is disgusting. It’s racist and sexist and unfounded.
  22. Everything about this comment comes off as sexist at best. Racist at the worst.
  23. Well I have an order coming from Factor on Tuesday. One of my neighbors uses it and with a 50% off the first week and being able to cancel at any time I signed up. I’ll follow up once I get my delivery.
  24. Host's note: This post and the following discussion were split from Indonesian peanut sauce (sambal kacang) in RecipeGullet. Between this and your current blog I am in awe! Now where did you get those shrimp chips?
  25. Right because Tom Collichio is the shining example of being true to his roots— hardly.
