In my experience, after moving out, I took things my parents didn't need and bought things on an as needed basis, based on my interest and ability of cooking. I lived with roommates and we taught each other our recipes over time, and eventually when I got married, the bulk of my kitchen items were either gifts of purchased by my husband and I. Start off small. If you anticipate moving, be cognizant of how much you accumulate

For some reason this site has me ready to purchase a lot of things. I first found it when my California born and raised husband kept talking about missing something called "it's It's " I googled it, and was directed to goldbelly.com. We have a fairly large freezer left my the previous owners and it's been hot in the NYC area. I figured my husband deserved a taste of his favorite San Fran snack and bought a mix of mint and vanilla ice cream, then my eyes kept wandering so I added Lou Malinatti's sausage pies as my husband enjoyed them when we were in Chicago. Since I was placing a decent order I added two racks of Lou's BBQ ribs, they were decently priced. Some of the items sell out really fast, some as a NJ native I wouldn't particularly pay for as a good sloppy joe is not regulated to one place. Has anyone else used them? I have visions of us eating various It's it's on our deck with the puppy licking up the melted ice cream.

Would you mind sharing your recipe? They look great!

Today started off as a "Sunday Funday" with the pup And ended with a pork loin wrapped in bacon on the Egg

A three and a half lb whole paycheck chicken done on the BGE, beer can style. A can of Sam Summer Ale, lemons and the BGE chicken seasoning which I tasted and liked before it was rubbed down. Such fun in torrential down pours that even the dog was disinterested (I definitely gave her three bites of left over steak for being so calm while we ate) juicy chicken and good corn- I was shocked that my husband found good corn. Tons of mosquito bites and two changes of clothes thanks to the rain, but dinner was awesome

I wish I took a picture! NY strip steaks from Whole Paycheck- but my husband just bought a large big green egg and a millions accessories, since he did tours in Europe when he lived there he's a bit of an expert, the pup and I just say back and dozed off. Although the pup got her first taste of steak and went crazy., she is so our dog.

Yes, they are double ovens and the hood vents through the roof. The pup is a huge handful!

Thanks Smithy! We are going to use a subway tile close to the wall color in most areas. We Also need a tv in the hutch and a wine cooler once the pups kibble diminishes. We did well until the dog.

Please ignore the mess. We had just gotten a large food delivery the moment we could, but here are the updates: ... the finishing of the outlets and the backsplash has been delayed due to this addition:

I love conch and those lobster tails are gorgeous- not to mention the beach and ocean- WOW! Thanks for sharing! I've only been to Jamaica and Bahamas in the Caribbean.

I dined out today and we all, collectively decided that splitting a check via credit was more appealing than throwing wads of cash around. I regularly carry about $400 in cash, but we utilized our credit cards for reward purposes. And when I lived in NOLIta? I never paid cash. Same with when I worked in Union Square. Cash is not the king when dining in NYC. As someone who lived next door to SoHo.

I did too! My kitchen is being gutted so I can't cook. Although an actual ' pot' pie...I could imagine would be interesting. I'd also love to make a lobster pot pie. Everyone's posts sound SO good!

Pot pie! I wish I could make one!

Just to clarify, granite won't discolor due to heat?

Delayed again!! By two more weeks. I'm quickly losing it. Money doesn't equate timeliness.

Very good point. While the electrical work came in slightly over budget they did a LOT of new wiring, I just need better communication. March is when we both have birthdays and I love going to spring Training. We only have a fridge, a decent sized freezer that came with the home our has and a microwave we bought while living on Mott St. In NoLIta ages ago to live off of. And we are storing wine glasses, china, knives, plates, etc all over the place.

I'm curious, what is the point of carbonating non sparkling wine, other than the old wives tale (not sure if it's true) that carbonated beverages gets one drunk faster? Does it taste better? I've googled MR and only got EG answers.

Thank that is perfect! I'm a bit young to remember Green Acres though. I found my contractor is a very dumb way- I used yelp. Yes, I know. AND I failed to notice all his reviews were from people in CA who live near my in laws. He had JUST moved to NJ, although less than a mile from our home. I should have asked my parents but I was stubborn. Backfire! He is diligent and has fixed other little things that have popped up for free, but he is hardly familiar with state or township laws or subcontractors. I spend my entire day locked in the bedroom when he has electricians and plumbers here, because I don't know these people and get irrationally nervous. Plus they are in my attic a lot, which has drop down stairs right outside the master bedroom. My husband suggested I spend two weeks or so in Marco Island to avoid dealing with this and him coming down in weekend but I thought that was irrational. Now I know I was being irrational in not accepting th offer!

Dave, our floors are also oak. I really like the grey shade, we had ours sanded and stained with a cherry tone to match the bazillion cabinets we have ordered. My contractor is really working my nerves- not communicating with the custom cabinet guys who he referred us to, filed permits for the work AFTER doing the work, which has us in limbo. Every day it seems there's more bad news delaying us. I have an yet to be diagnosed gastrointestinal issues and not having fresh food to make and eat is making life extra miserable. That combined with exposed walls and holes in the rec room ceiling to re-vent air ducts and the extended gas line...it's a lot for a first time home owner! That said, my custom hutch has room for a 24 inch wide wine fridge. However, that seems to be a rarity other than super expensive, like 2k ones. Any suggestions?

Thanks Liuzhou, the ones you made (or I'm assuming your made) look exactly like the ones I ate and loved. They would vary in colors, but other than that, are identical. It's funny how random food items from childhood have been impacted into my mind. Chinese food was a treat (my father isn't a fan) and because my birthday is St. Patricks day I never was able to enjoy a Chinese meal on my birthday due to my Irish family being stubborn about tradition (and I still loathe corn beef and cabbage to this day).

Thanks, that was very helpful! I will look for the Calbee brand at my local Asian grocery store. I will try my hand at making them, perhaps with a pre- made mix once I have a kitchen with walls and appliances! Although I think I will buy a deep fryer- I tend to be clumsy in general so a big pot of hot oil terrifies me.

Yes CDH, those are what I'm looking for. Anna, maybe once I have a kitchen I might attempt to make them!

Thanks Shel and Rotus for changing the pictures! Wo Dave, that remodel is gorgeous!!!

Growing up, my favorite, now closed Chinese place would send every delivery order with what I associate with my childhood- multi colored crisps that they called ' shrimp chips'. They were delectable pieces of crispiness that would melt in your mouth like a bit of the sea. In a rainbow of colors, white, pink, orange; the colors didn't change the taste. Unfortunately that Chinese restaurant has closed and none in my area offer these sweet yet savory treats. Does anyone have a solid online recommendation? I know they are loaded with MSG and salt but damn do I want some quality tasty chips!! Amazon wells a wide selection but I would like something simple and tasty and would buy in bulk. Any advice is very much appreciated. I cannot make my own as I do not even have a functioning kitchen as it is under construction.

Why so secretive? Why not reveal your potluck recipe? I hardly think any of us would try to steal anything from you. The best way to get workable answers is giving full disclosure. Isn't sharing the point of this forum? That said I learned a ton from this thread so thanks!
