I’ll loo k to that. I want a creamy, easy to make Mac and cheese without having to make a roux, and without buying 6 different kinds of cheeses. I also don’t grow up eating it so my taste for it finds Kraft acceptable for what it is (aka something you’d happily eat after midnight). Any other recommendations?

Thank you for this explanation. I do like anchovies and most with foods with a burst of Unami or salt, so I will try this at my local restaurant first before cooking with Chinese black beans.

I have a feeling this is a very ignorant question, but I have to ask. I really dislike most legumes. I can at best, take or leave chickpeas. So what is the flavor of Chinese black beans? Is it a soy flavor? I’ve always shied from anything with a black bean sauce, thinking it would be a typical legume taste.

Can you explain more about the sea bass collars? Is all of it edible? I had very poorly shucked oysters last week and was seriously bummed out. Your choices look a lot better! Does the percentage for the staff bother you on bills? I didn’t know Maine did that— I’ve rarely traveled since Covid but expected and accepted it in San Francisco.

Yes thank you! I also dry fry mushrooms. They release a lot of water!

I love this knife for bread, but what is it really for?

I’m a heathen so when I get those “cocktail” knives as gifts, I just always thought they were sloppy cheese knives. No one has ever said anything but then again I don’t love to socialize 🫣🤣 -
Can you tell me more about how you think the sherry mushrooms were done? I love that combination. I live about 20 miles from Manhattan and haven’t been since November 2019 for my anniversary (ugh not anymore). That said Manhatta was good then, they’ve made a lot of changes since and my ass isn’t getting on a NJ Transit train any time soon!

I bet. White Castle really being a “thing” in NJ is mostly urban legend. I’ve had White Castle once. i hope you were able to enjoy some of our better offerings!

My gut reaction was “because it tastes like shit”. But I learned a lot reading the responses!

I remember those ducks! My previous comment wasn’t fully truthful; I have asked to take home steak bones (I know!) for my dog. But I still don’t think I said doggy bag. 🤣

I can’t stop looking at this picture and drooling!

I’ve always brought home my leftovers. Even when I was young about 5 years old. American serving sizes are generally obscenely oversized and dining out gave my mom two days to have a break. I have never, ever asked for a “doggy bag”. I’m 43. I’ve always just asked for the rest of my meal to be packed up or could I pack it up. I think that term is antiquated.

I will say when I worked at an establishment that had two restaurants and two ballrooms for banquets, that every night whatever couldn’t be easily repurposed was donated to the local soup kitchens. This was 20 years ago. There is a law in NJ absolving restaurants, caterers, etc from being liable for food borne illnesses once the donations were tested to be at the correct temperature before leaving the donor establishment. I worked for a very well known family of restaurants and banquet halls after the first one and they always refused to donate. It’s always bothered me.

This type of steaming of burgers has an almost cult like following in northern NJ— google White Manna. They’re like White Castle but 500x better. They aren’t a grilled burger and don’t pretend to be. They’re excellent. They fill a niche and are great, just as a perfectly grilled burger is great. Definitely worth a try IMO.

This happened to me during a small snow storm. I called the driver, messaged him and got zero response. He still got my 20% tip and I had to haul bags from my neighbors place to mine which made me extremely uncomfortable. I will never use Whole Foods via Amazon again. The picture I was sent was of cement stairs.

Bud light is still plentiful and easily available. With the baseball season just starting up and Budweiser having a stronghold in so many stadiums, they are reaching their peak right now. I wonder how it would hold up in a batter for fish and chips.

Well, I finally “cooked” in my apartment kitchen. 4lbs of baby bella mushrooms, cleaned, chopped, dry fried hot until most water is cooked down then hit with a knob of butter and large splashes of Marsala wine. Of course I don’t have a pan large enough to cook more than 1lb at a time properly, so it took me about 3 hours. I could have made a from scratch sauce and lasagna in less time! Moving forward I’m going to consider what I can purchase that is already cooked or some type of charcuterie to contribute.

it’s my understanding prawns are much larger than shrimp. These look like baby shrimp, not prawns.

I’ve ordered cheese steaks from Pat’s in Philadelphia via Goldbelly. They heated up fairly well. But, to some that’s not a sandwich. So maybe be more specific about what you’re looking for?

Perfect meal for me but I prefer smaller, sweeter west coast oysters.
-
I would eat both!

I am seriously jealous. I’d be eating chargrilled oysters non stop.

I really want to go. I also really am not interested in taking the train to Manhattan, it’s unreliable and exhausting. If I could find an open reservation on Resy when nothing major is happening in Manhattan, I’d jump on it and take car service. Would even be fine dining solo.

My birthday is St. Patrick’s day and I really can’t stand the typical corned beef and cabbage. This looks amazing— I’d just sub the tartar sauce for malt vinegar. Having people try to push food for a holiday that happens to be your birthday is the worst when you don’t like it. My parents got complaints for years because they didn’t name me Meghan. My name has Welsh origins close enough! 😂🙄

So incredibly sad— her contributions were amazing. RIP.
