  1. She could always visit New Zealand, I hear they are about the same.

Yes, I saw that. How do you use it in the kitchen?

Could you explain the oscillating multi-tool? It does not appear to be a culinary implement.
  4. Batch 21. No different from batch 20. I am enjoying the fruits of my labor as we speak.
  5. Good question. I think my favorite kitchen tool is the one I'm relying on at any given moment. In this case my beloved Blendtec. And about to be the Kuvings juicer -- since I am preparing a batch of orgeat (for which I need my Paragon induction and my homogenizer too). In all fairness the Zojirushi was a lot less expensive than the Blendtec. Ask me again when I am cooking rice.
  6. And none of the hikers' injuries were serious, except for the tourist who had to be airlifted.
  7. Did you check the bedroom?
  8. The new Zojirushi has a feature called "My Rice (49 ways)". You can adjust rice stickiness and softness in 49 combinations.
  9. I cook pork sous vide to pasteurize and preserve it. When I can get quality pork I much prefer to grill my chops, turning every minute. Your mileage may vary.
  10. I'm with you, Kerry. I weigh my oat groats but I don't weigh rice.* Other than for rice, the cup I use is the US customary cup. And so we have, smaller to larger: Japanese go = 240100/1331 ml Modern Japanese cup = 200 ml. Canadian cup = 227.3045 ml US cup = 236.5882365 ml US legal cup = 240 ml Metric cup = 250 ml Imperial cup = 284.130625 ml Please don't get involved with Russian or South American cups. It's a wonder we can all communicate or eat. I can well understand how wars get started. *Oops, now that I think of it, I weigh Bomba for my paella. I'm not sure I'll be trying it, but my new Zojirushi booklet includes a recipe for paella.

So you can't agree on anything?
  12. Seriously, imperial was the last one I would have guessed.
  13. Now that I think of it, sake could explain 2401/13310.
  14. With your method how do you account for the water absorbed by and clinging to the rice grains after washing? (Serious question.)
  15. Canadian cup, imperial cup, or metric cup?
  16. I shall never again. Ever. Last weekend I urgently needed orgeat. No points for guessing why. I did not have enough Marcona almonds nor apricot kernels to produce a batch. I always try to keep at least one extra bag of Marcona almonds and apricot kernels on hand. I don't know what went wrong? My urgent order from nuts.com arrived this afternoon. Meanwhile, tonight I went to replenish my antique Danish pepper mill. On the spice shelf I found an empty jar. I was sure I had purchased pepper. How could I have not? But while searching for black pepper I found the bags of apricot kernels and Marcona almonds! I'm not crazy. Not with the nuts, they were under a dozen or three jars of spices in the bedroom. Eventually I located the unopened half pound bag of Spice House Kampot peppercorns. But not before filling the pepper mill with red pepper. I work in a library. I'm supposed to know how to organize stuff. Please don't tell my boss.
  17. Late dinner is Branston Pickle, English Cheddar, and suitably stale bread. I took pause when I perused the Branston ingredients, but at least no corn syrup in mine. I am used to sharper, more assertive Vermont Cheddar and I think Vermont Cheddar would have served better as accompaniment to the Branston than the English. Branston certainly is addicting.
  18. Unfortunately the video does not demonstrate the reassembly of the unit. I must say the APO looks well made compared to the interior of the CSO. Thanks for sharing.
  19. Yes, as I understand.
  20. I'm sure someone had a reason. I would love to know what it was.
  21. As @ElsieD has said. A Japanese go is officially 2401/13310 liters.
  22. I recall one of the iRobot inventors related he questioned his young daughter why she was sweeping her spilled Cheerios onto the floor. "Don't worry daddy, the robot will get them." Meanwhile my maid has finished her duties and is awaiting me to recharge her battery.
  23. Fortunately I have about five boxes in the hall linen closet. Spatial awareness has never been my thing.
  24. Today was cool and cloudy. I decided to revisit steel cut oats in the NW-JEC10BA Zojirushi. I added less than the minimum 0.5 go: 1.5 ounces (by weight, not volume), a more Jo sized amount. (As I recall 0.5 go of oats is about 2.5 ounces.) The result was a bit wetter than I might prefer, but otherwise quite OK. One complaint, the cleanup after cooking oats is more of a pain than after cooking rice. I think there is a reason these devices are called rice cookers, and not oat cookers.
