Trust me I have tried everything ever mention by anybody anywhere or at any time and none of them work.

When my carrots finish cooking I am going to weigh the bag. 404 G. That includes two carrots. hefty magnets and other hunks of various metals make up the rest. It’s still floats. Attempts to put bowls plates etc. over it are unsuccessful they simply slide off. There are no easy answers despite what everybody tries to tell me. I’ve tried every trick in the book and some that aren’t in the book.

I would like to see the spoon that weighs enough to keep my carrots from floating.
-
Been there. Done that. Carrots still float!

Inspired by this I have cooked a pork chop for one hour at 54.5°C and I’m now cooking some carrots at 85°C for two hours. It doesn’t seem to matter how much cutlery I put in to the bag with vegetables they continue to float. I have done the displacement method but if I put my whole cutlery drawer in there I swear it would still float. Chef Steps advises one spoon. I can only assume that it weighs somewhere close to 10 kg in order for it to work!

Of course restaurants must have a tidy stock of toilet paper and if they are no longer serving in-house customers they shouldn’t need all of it. I think it’s a grand that they are making some of it available. I still don’t understand why we need it all but perhaps there something I’m missing.

So it seems sensible to suspend snacks for meetings both because many of those who normally attend are now working from home and I do not want to put anybody in a position of needing to refuse my snacks. But I would like to keep my hand in so that I can resume when things return to normal. Today I made these gluten-free brownies for my daughter. Even she and I are trying to maintain social distance so I will put them outside on top of my air conditioner when she tells me she’s going to be driving by. Next week I will see about making something for my granddaughter.

Please, please could we have a groan emoji?

Well I no longer have the grill. Itis now in its forever home. But I like the idea of grilled pork chops and carrots and I have both of those in the house. I think I might sous vide the pork chops. Perhaps even sous vide the carrots and then finish them on my A4 box which gets surprisingly hot. thank you for the idea.

not all that photogenic but it was quite tasty. Sliced, reheated mild Italian sausage, farm fresh fried egg and one piece of rye toast. At least my alliterative capabilities seem to be still working!

Your Daily Sweets: What Are You Making and Baking? (2017 – )
Anna N replied to a topic in Pastry & Baking
Had to look it up. Learned something new again. Looks and sounds delicious. Thank you for sharing. -
Do you serve it with Gaelic bread?

I agree. I’ve been having a hard time taking photographs. Let’s face it, I’ve had a hard time even thinking about food. But this morning I knew however pathetic my cooking might be we need to stay together as a community which means we need to make the effort to post. Not saying everybody has to become martyrs and eat cold food.😂 Just every little helps especially for those of us who feel quite isolated. So I’ll keep trying as long as I can to post what I can.

It did not come to me in the night but it did come to me this morning via Mr. Google. I am thinking of Eccles cake. Quite obviously not the same thing but I sure would like one right about now.

I somehow think that my mention of milk boxes has been subsumed by other ideas that don’t take into account how very useful this old fashioned idea could be at this time of pandemic. So I’m just going to post this link to stress that many things could be safely delivered to vulnerable people if only these things still existed. I sure wish I had one. Click

It looks very familiar to me but with a very different name. If I come up with it I will post.

Who remembers milk boxes? The little boxes that were built into any house where the milkman could open the outside door and place the milk in it and then from the inside the homeowner could retrieve the milk. What I wouldn’t give for one of those now! Just imagine its usefulness. This was brought to mind by an article in the British guardian which suggested that the letter box could be used to deliver drugs to shut ins. Pharmaceutical drugs I mean not the other kind. None of us have letter boxes anymore. Here we don’t even have mailboxes unless you count the community mailbox which is not very useful in this situation. We should be slow to turn our backs on things that have served us well.

That’s too bad because they certainly do look delicious.

I think we should spend our down time inventing a dish worthy of the name Gaelic Bread. It wouldn’t have to involve kale, would it?

I think you are misinterpreting MC. He was very interested in why on earth you were eating that stuff. I think he and I have much in common. 😂

I find there is a sweet spot for broccoli and yours looks like it hit that spot. I’m happy to take hubby’s portion off your hands. But it sounds like it might be a fight! Your meals almost always make my mouth water.

I am not much of a fan of pulled pork but when you put a fried egg on top of it in the breakfast thread you won me over.
