  1. I have the same nails as you. Unfortunately the salons here are not yet able to open. God I hope it's soon!
  2. I placed my grocery order this morning for curbside pickup. Then I decided I wanted to make a crab spread appetizer for our card game on Friday and it was too late to add to my order. So my order arrived with only one exception, no cilantro (due to Cinco de Mayo, I’d guess). so I had to go inside the sore for the crab and I also wanted an ice cream cake for dessert. Found loads of cilantro on the shelf. Card playing menu: crab spread with various crackers and pita chips Spreadable cheeses for those who don’t eat seafood Pico de Gallo with tortilla chips Red grapes to eat while handling the cards Ice cream cake
  3. So, along with my margaritas I’m making a ham and Swiss quiche. Not Mexican but it’s what I have on hand.
  4. So far, two margaritas on-the-rocks.
  5. Yesterday I had an appointment with the carpenter who will be building the cabinets for my new kitchen. Yay! His shop is South of here in another small town. My friend went with me and we had a good visit going over the plans and choosing hardware, designs, color and layout. On the way home is a small restaurant called The Hamilton Fish House. I had gotten their phone number so we could get take-out. When I called from the cabinet shop they told me they were open! First day. We chose to eat inside and were the only customers. The fish and chips were great and it was just so wonderful to be out and about again after such a long time in isolation. They are under strict rules for separation and cleanliness but it is a big step forward. My county of approx. 46,000 has had just 5 known cases of the virus.

    New Kitchen

I'm rethinking my decision on a new range. I had thought I wanted this Thermador Dual Fuel But the appliance experts are saying that Induction is the best choice these days. Now the Cafe Induction is at the top of my list. I love the look of both. The clean top of the Café is wonderful.
  8. So Friday I tackled the big upright in the garage. It was loaded and there was lots of ice. I thought this one would go faster than the smaller one I cleaned recently but that didn't happen. It's quite large and there was a lot of meat in it. I found three whole chickens and two corned beefs (that I didn't even remember) as weel as a load of ground meats, vegetables, leftovers and lots and lots of pork. It rook most of the day to get the ice to melt. I used my big 8-qt. All Clad stockpot filled with boiling water; risking life and limb carrying it through the house and into the garage. Then I started with the hairdryer; after several tries I finally turned the dryer on, put it inside and shut the door and waited for 45 minutes. At last most of the ice was melted. I trashed almost half of contents simply because time is running out and I don't want to have to move more than is necessary. But, boy am I glad to be done with that job.
  9. Yep, that’s what I use now. Easy peasy.
  10. I don't understand. Doesn't the larger jar have to go into the fridge also?

    Bad food?

Thanks, no ill effects from it.

    Bad food?

I ate it. Tasted very good. I’ll let you know if I start vomiting.

    Bad food?

I left half a baked sweet potato on the counter overnight by mistake. Will I get sick if I eat it now? ( I refrigerated it early this morning as soon as I discovered it).
  14. Is there some urgency in your wanting to get home or is it just that you are ready? Has someone been staying or watching your home while you’ve been away?
  15. Today’d bake fresh from the oven KAF Clay’s Multi-grain
  16. I leaned a new (to me) usage of this word today.

    Dinner 2020

After cleaning out one of my freezers I discovered I had several packages of ham hocks. tonight;’s dinner is going to be Navy Bbean Soup.
  18. I've been doing my dishes the wrong way. I finally woke up and realized that while I though it was optimal to run the d/w only when it's full is really wasteful of water because I was hand washing so many things every day. I would run out of glassware and salad forks and salad plates. Now I put everything I can in the d/w (no matter how big it is and how much room it takes) and then run it every 2 to 3 days. I never realized how much extra water I used by hand washing every day and it's much easier on me and my kitchen is much neater.
  19. I had one of those probably 20 years ago or so. A couple years ago I bought one of these when I started having arthritis issues in my hands. It's sort of an electric version of the Moulinex and very easy to use. I admit to grating a lot more cheese these days now that I don't have to use a box grater.
  20. yesterday I finally gathered the courage to tackle my smaller upright freezer. There was SO MUCH ice. I wish I'd thought to take a picture of it before I started. It had been years sinvce I last defrosted it. I ruthlessly pulled out and trashed all the leftovers and meats that I won't have time to use before the move (probably in July sometime). My garbage trolley is three quarters full and I'm just hoping it's not so heavy that I can't push it out to the street. It feels like such an accomplishment to have it done as it was a huge jog that took half day using big pots of hot water as well as a hairdryer.. wasteful, yes, but it had to be done. Next I have to start on the bigger freezer in the garage. That one's not quite as ice-filled and should go faster. That will wait until I have an empty garbage can. UCH
  21. Ooh! Pinch a loaf?

    Dinner 2020

That stew (and the bread) look absolutely delicious!
  23. Yesterday’s bake was KAF No Knead Sourdough. A little too dark. Not a huge riser but used no yeast.
  24. I agree he seems to be pretty out-there.

    Soda bread

KAF has several recipes for Irish Soda Bread. I have been using their Americaanized version for years and it's my favorite. They have more traditional recipes as well.
