  1. I've been doing my dishes the wrong way. I finally woke up and realized that while I though it was optimal to run the d/w only when it's full is really wasteful of water because I was hand washing so many things every day. I would run out of glassware and salad forks and salad plates. Now I put everything I can in the d/w (no matter how big it is and how much room it takes) and then run it every 2 to 3 days. I never realized how much extra water I used by hand washing every day and it's much easier on me and my kitchen is much neater.
  2. I had one of those probably 20 years ago or so. A couple years ago I bought one of these when I started having arthritis issues in my hands. It's sort of an electric version of the Moulinex and very easy to use. I admit to grating a lot more cheese these days now that I don't have to use a box grater.
  3. yesterday I finally gathered the courage to tackle my smaller upright freezer. There was SO MUCH ice. I wish I'd thought to take a picture of it before I started. It had been years sinvce I last defrosted it. I ruthlessly pulled out and trashed all the leftovers and meats that I won't have time to use before the move (probably in July sometime). My garbage trolley is three quarters full and I'm just hoping it's not so heavy that I can't push it out to the street. It feels like such an accomplishment to have it done as it was a huge jog that took half day using big pots of hot water as well as a hairdryer.. wasteful, yes, but it had to be done. Next I have to start on the bigger freezer in the garage. That one's not quite as ice-filled and should go faster. That will wait until I have an empty garbage can. UCH

    Dinner 2020

That stew (and the bread) look absolutely delicious!
  6. Yesterday’s bake was KAF No Knead Sourdough. A little too dark. Not a huge riser but used no yeast.
  7. I agree he seems to be pretty out-there.

    Soda bread

KAF has several recipes for Irish Soda Bread. I have been using their Americaanized version for years and it's my favorite. They have more traditional recipes as well.
  9. as in his political views?
  10. Picked up my curbside order this morning. There were three other cars waiting. My order was complete although I had allowed a few subs, ‘Hey, I was thrilled overall.as I got the white flour and baking powder that wasn’t available last week. I’m pretty much well-stocked for the next couple of weeks.
  11. When I first used my Pullman pan the lid also popped off while baking. i tool a needle-nose plier and crimped the curved edge to fit tighter. Still working.
  12. I'm seeing a lessening of 'panic shopping' here. Last Wednesday I picked up my curbside order and mine was the only car in the designated parking unlike the previous week when all the spaces were taken and I had to wait a good half hour.. I created my grocery order yesterday and, when checking for time slots this morning, found all times from 11AM on were open (they allow time for 10 orders per hour). This is a small town, you see. But the variety and quality of the food is amazingly good.
  13. I am truly horrified!
  14. KAF NO-Knead Sourdough is on the schedule for tomorrow. I’ll feed my stater later today so it’s ready in the morning.
  15. Wow! That’s eye-opening.
  16. After reading about the LoafNest here I checked it out at Amazon. The price there was $199 USD, same as at the LoafNest website. However, a google search this morning turned up this. Curious, no?
  17. I've heard good things about Sea To Table seafood. Like @Smithy I will have to wait a couple months (or more) until my new house is ready and I can move. In the meantime I'm trying to empty my freezers.
  18. My first Le Creuset (5-½ qt.) that I bought maybe 40 years ago did not have enamel on the outside bottom, unlike all my other pieces bought since then. It is the most discolored and is now the vessel I use when I make No-Knead. My newest pieces have a light sand colored interior and seem to resist stains better. The older pieces have a more white interior.
  19. Now there's a word you don't hear everyday!
  20. My grocery order this week was a bit of a bust. Fully half of the items were out of stock. No white flour, no baking soda, no canned pumpkin (who's using all that pumpkin now? I buy it for Lucy), no chocolate donuts, no chives, no tomato sauce and no ground chuck. Still out of lamb shanks, too. Oh well, I just add all those items to next week's list hoping for better results.

    Dinner 2020

Lighthouse Inn Potatoes to go with my leftover pot roast.
  22. Sunday's dinner was pot roast done in the oven in my Le Creuset Dutch Oven, personally, the best way to do pot roast. This one was small, so as not to have eternal leftovers, no matter how good they are. I placed my weekly grocery order just know. I keep checking the available pickup windows as they tend to get filled early on. Already all of today's times are gone so I went ahead with the order to get a time of 11-12N tomorrow. I hope they still have flour although I've given up all hope of getting any lamb shanks.
  23. There was no sticking; my pan is thoroughly seasoned from many, many years of use. It was just too heavy for me to handle while hot.
  24. I made a pineapple upside down cake (my favorite cake) a few days ago. A couple of things went wrong. This time I used a CI recipe which calls for fresh pineapple. I didn't cook the pineapple long enough so it didn't soften sufficiently. But the big disaster happened when after baking I tried to invert the cake onto my plate. I had used my small cast iron skillet. As directed I let the cake cool for ten minutes on a rack. When I tried to turn the cake over the pan was still very, very hot. I used my big oven mitts which are a little clumsy and lost control of the pan and the cake. The cake landed halfway onto the plate, then onto the counter where it broke into pieces, much cursing ensued.. Oy. What a wreck. I pieced it together as best I could but it certainly is not company-worthy. However, since I really make this so I can eat it for breakfast, it's not too big a deal. But, you know what? We still eat with our eyes. Oh yes, I will make this again. I will still use the cast iron pan but will let it cool a bit longer and use a kitchen towel instead of mitts. And I'll use canned pineapple rings.
  25. My feeling as what was mentioned earlier here; lots and lots of people will Be without expendable income for who knows how long. My advice would be that this is not the time. I may be more cautious than you want to be but I wouldn’t bet my own money on it.
