lindag replied to a topic in Pastry & Baking
a recipe by Sasha Kamen @roaming Dallas, TX Reminiscent in a way of Pineapple Upside Down Cake, this cake is easy to stir together and very moist and delicious. Best when served with ice cream while still slightly warm. ► SERVES Makes a 9"x13" oblong cake COOK TIME 40 Min METHOD Bake Brown Sugar Pineapple Cake 2 cups flour 1 cup sugar 1/2 cup brown sugar 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon baking soda 2 eggs 16 ounces crushed pineapple 1/3 cup brown sugar 1 cup nuts 1/2 cup butter 1/2 cup sugar 2 teaspoons vanilla 1 cup evaporated milk Mix first seven ingredients and pour into a buttered 9"x13" pan. Mix next two ingredients (sugar and nuts) and sprinkle over the unbaked cake. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 45 minutes. Mix the next four ingredients (butter, sugar, milk and vanilla) in a saucepan, bring to boil, and pour over the baked cake while still hot. -

@ElsieD, have you had any luck finding a similar recipe ? None that I've across have that dark a color. Can't help wondering if it comes from brown sugar instead of white. -

What was the restaurant/motel in an early episode of "Mad Men"? Was it a Howard Johnson? or a different older chain restaurant?

Did you use brown sugar in your cake? Is that was gives it that dark color? -

My friend got her first delivery yesterday from Factor and was pleased with what she saw. I was rather surprised that all the meals were made for the microwave, that alone would have put me off.

In the past I've used Starbucks cold brew packs but it seem that they've been discontinued. So now I've turned to these: They're very good and there a lots of varieties and servings sizes. Much less fuss, too.

One of my friends subscribed to Hello Fresh for a period of time for her family of four. They liked the meals well enough but felt they repeated too often. Not quite enough variety, I guess.

My good friend has signed up for a meal delivery service that I'd never heard of, I think she said it was Factor. Her first delivery is coming tomorrow so I'll post her reaction. I've read that the service with the highest customer satisfaction rating is Homme Chef. I've not tried any of these myself.

I had some of WFork's wild shrimp and thought they were excellent.

Any ideas as to what made the rice so flavorful?

Anyone tried this stuff? I just ordered some.

Or you can save yourself some bucks while cutting out the middleman and just drink from the bottle.

When shaping the dough did you wet your hands with oil or cool water to help prevent it sticking to you?

Sourdough flavor, for those who can't keep the starter alive?
lindag replied to a topic in Pastry & Baking
I just started a new sourdough starter that is utterly amazing. here. It is so vigorous that it was ready to use very quickly (I think it was within the 2nd day). Directions are included. It seems really easy to maintain as well. I've tried many commercial starters as well as creating my own but this one beats them all. -
The larger stalks seem to have more flavor.

What a tough life you have. 😁
