  1. I saw this the last time we were at the liquor store. I made Ronnie come see, too. We laughed out loud.

    Dinner 2023

We went to Wal-Mart a couple of weeks ago and while perusing the meat section I ran across ox tails at a semi-decent price--$6.89 or something close to that. Years ago we could have gotten them way cheaper than that...but...ever since I saw @blue_dolphin's ragu she made the other day I've been craving oxtail ragu. So, I threw the tails in my cart and went to check out. OMG we must have misread the sign because that price was PER POUND. Soooooo...these were over $18. I think Ronnie must not have noticed because he'd have taken that package straight back to it's spot in the meat case. Good news is we have tons of leftover to put in the freezer. I present the world's most expensive ragu LOL:
  3. OH all of that food looks so good. That ceviche and the octopus!!! WANT!!!
  4. Well, I am so sorry your trip ended so short and that you felt so bad. I guess the one good thing is you only had a day and half left...which is a lot, but at least you weren't sick the whole time. Your wife is a trooper to have hung in there and gone out like she did. It's good that you tested negative so you got back home, but I would guess that you both had some version of covid. Your symptoms were so much like my last round. Also so glad you had such nice attendants on your flight. Again, being that sick and having to fly from a different country....I think that would be so hard. Thank you so much for showing the journey. The food....the FOOD!!! Makes me want to make Asian tonight which would be nothing like what you ate. The lime juice drinks always look so refreshing. I know I would like those. Again, many thanks.
  5. My breakfast this morning. I'm trying to resist eating the rest of the anchovies out of the can.

Ronnie went fishing the other day. A buddy of his asked him to go. He's not usually a cold weather fisher person. Didn't catch a lot. Maybe one crappie and a drum? Anyway I supplemented with some bass from the freezer. Fresh fish is good, but you will not catch me sitting in a boat when it's 40 degrees out and windy. Nope lol. Had to run into the store again and saw more tomatillos. Had to buy them. So Mexican food again. Chicken enchiladas. SV'd another chicken breast for sandwiches. Ronnie wanted spaghetti...my favorite as you all know. So I made a meat sauce. Roasted a turkey quarter and made a little Thanksgiving type meal. Satisfied my Stove Top Stuffing craving for a while. Yesterday Ronnie smoked some baby back ribs and I finished them in the IP. We usually don't buy those but these must have been on sale. I like the regular ribs just fine, but I reaaaalllly like these baby backs.
  7. Either way, Dorothy is delicious 😄
  8. I've been meaning to try a copy cat recipe for making Dorothy L. but haven't gotten to it. The base is a can of condensed tomato soup.
  9. It's kind of like French dressing only better IMO.
  10. Dorothy Lynch! I just bought some at the store last week. Good stuff. Love the pink bowls. And all of those goodies! You are a lucky girl! Yes, it was seafood enchiladas. Somewhere around here I posted about those....I'll try to find it.
  11. We call those swamp coolers around here. Ronnie has one in his garage/shop that he uses all summer. Really does help with the heat. Aaaaaannnnnd, now I want chicken wings. Not the ones I make. I want those wings that you had.
  12. I've never seen wine in plastic bottles like that. Interesting. And, SO very nice of you to give them your camera. More people should be as kind and generous as you are!

    Dinner 2023

@Kim ShookYou did super amazing with your cooking IMO! Everything looks delicious. Mr. Kim's meats--OMG yum. @shainI would love to try some of your chestnut pasta. @farcegoFroglegs! It's been a while since I've had any. Yours look wonderful. @blue_dolphinI've been craving that oxtail ragu that I made a while back. No oxtails to be had around here--or if there are, they are outrageously expensive. Thanks for the idea to use beef short ribs! I might even have some in the freezer...... Life has been....a bit challenging this last week or so. Still very tired all the time. I'm always shocked when the sun starts rising in the morning -it feels like I just went to sleep lol. Breakfast--which always symbolizes that I couldn't think of anything more creative and/or I'm exhausted. I did the eggs in the IP and was quite pleased with the ease--Ronnie likes his super runny so they were perfect for him. Chili cheese dogs. I've been wanting these for a long time. Went to two grocery stores on Monday. Hadn't been since just after Thanksgiving or maybe it was even before that. One of the stores had a good sale on chicken breasts so we loaded up. Brined them and vac packed and in the freezer now. SV'd one for sandwiches. SV keeps them so juicy. Onion rings were frozen Nathan's brand. I should have done them in the air fryer to make them more crisp. Need to look up time and temp for next time. The same store where we got the chicken breasts has the worst produce section. I feel bad for them....I wouldn't leave stuff out that was all wrinkled and limp. However, oddly, they had a whole pile of beautiful tomatillos! I bought most of them and made an enchilada sauce. A lot went in the freezer. Had to make enchiladas, beans and stuffed peppers that night. Yesterday was Ronnie's birthday. He requested steaks. Was going to do them on the grill but decided to just SV them and then do the screaming hot skillet thing. He also wanted broccoli salad, corn --frozen from our garden--and a baked potato. I made his favorite chocolate sheet cake for dessert. A little champagne to go with
  14. I made this jalapeño mustard a few years back--it's really good and you could make a smaller batch and just keep it in the fridge. I cut way back on the amount of sugar in the recipe and kept the jalapeño seeds in. Link to where I posted about it in the preserving thread. I find us using pickled jalapeños in quite a few things so a jar of those might be handy. Again, you don't have to can them, just keep in that nice empty fridge of yours 😬

    Pasta Shapes

https://www.cnn.com/2023/01/07/business/ronzoni-pastina-pasta-discontinued-trnd/index.html Better stock up...if you can find it. EBAY has it--$40 for two boxes. Ebay has it....$40 for two boxes.
  16. We went to two different stores yesterday. A dozen eggs was $4 at one and $5 at the other. No eggs went into our cart--I would've had to wheel Ronnie out in another cart if I had. Most of the time we can buy eggs from our friend down the road--$3 a dozen for fresh eggs. But like others have said above, they go through times of not laying.
  17. Ditto on the sealing of the jars sound. Hate the sound of knife sharpening. Like nails on a chalkboard to me.

    Dinner 2023

Been trying to use up leftovers here and there....... New Year's Day dinner--based on lucky foods of course lol. I always think of @Norm Matthewswhen he skipped the luck and then shattered his ankle shortly after. I'd hate to think of how last year would have been had we NOT eaten lucky lol. Cole slaw--really good. I shredded less than half a head of cabbage and a carrot. Simple dressing of mayo, salt, pepper, vinegar and sugar. Fried chicken Smidge of scalloped potatoes Made a pot of black eyed peas, ham, my tomatoes and jalapeños. Monday I had a couple pieces of chicken that I used for piccata left so reheated those in the steam boy and made some pasta Last night I thawed out a couple of small beef filets and venison tenderloins Done in screaming hot cast iron with butter Baked potato, stewed tomatoes and green bean casserole on the side

They are my all time favorite. I recorded it and watched this morning. They were awesome. Simon looks amazing. But it was sad. No one in the crowd seemed to know the words. Back in the day girls would have been throwing undies on the stage lol. Did you freeze the lobster in the shell? I've never thought about doing that......

Thank you!!!! And I'm glad you had foie or else I never would have splurged......my gosh that stuff is good. I couldn't find goose foie gras, though. I wonder if that's everywhere or the places I checked were just sold out? Duck was just as good IMO.

    Dinner 2023

Snacky stuff for New Year's Eve. We were in bed before 9:30 lol. Couldn't even make it to the end of the Georgia game. Shrimp cocktail--shrimp from Misfits and surprisingly good. Deviled eggs and cheeses--one cheese was a lavender fennel goat cheese, also from Misfits and also really good. Duck foie gras that is entirely @Duvel's fault. Oh was it good. And I have many more servings in the freezer for future indulgence lol. NYE is also our wedding anniversary--23 years. These glasses were from my mom and stepdad to celebrate I made chocolate pudding for dessert Happy New Year Everyone!!!
  23. I have so many that I will bore you all lol. I was probably in second or third grade living high in the mountains of Colorado--this was in the early '80's. I had a boy friend. Ok we had crushes on each other so maybe I should say boyfriend but we weren't into that icky other stuff that goes along with liking someone like that lol. His mom was and still is, I'm sure, a great cook. Her mom owned a bakery that would open each summer during tourist season, but I digress. One morning after playing hard outside in the snow we came inside for lunch. She had made grilled peanut butter and grape jelly sandwiches. O M G. Sure I'd had regular grilled cheese---she and my mom both had the same grilled cheese maker. I can picture it. Black and square with a clasp thingy on the end that kept it closed while the sandwich "grilled". Anyway, the toasted, warm, gooey peanut butter and the jelly. Pure heaven. I went home and raved. I'm sure I drove my mom nuts about it lol. Same mom and dad always threw a huge party on Christmas Eve--very stressful for me because as the night wore on I was always convinced that Santa wasn't going to leave me anything due to me not being in bed! I was first introduced to a brick of cream cheese covered in jalapeño pepper jelly. One had red and the other had green. I thought it was so pretty and festive and OH so good with crackers. Around the same age the principal of the tiny school I went to had a party....don't remember why but it was winter and cold. Anyway, they made steamed whole, fresh artichokes (I had never seen these wondrous things before!). A ramekin of melted butter on the side.....the adults would tear off a leaf, dip it in butter, scrape their teeth down and discard the rest. My mom saw me staring and let me have one...which turned into I don't know how many before the principal and his wife chased me off because it was just for grown-ups. Being an only child and that I was always included in everything with my family, I felt entirely snubbed lol. To be continued........

    Dinner 2022

My appetite still isn't what it should be. Nothing sounds good except for spaghetti and red sauce. Of course, Ronnie doesn't agree lol. Sooooo...... Night before last I did chicken piccata with lemon/butter/caper/garlic onion sauce and a salad Last night I made Stromboli. Salami, prosciutto, mushroom, pepper and mozz. Broccoli salad to go with
  25. I thought the same thing! Thank you @shain. Everything looks beautiful. I hope that peace can remain!
