@dcarchBad year for tomatoes here, too. You're not alone! Beautiful presentation as always. Reading this topic reminded me that I have tea salad kits downstairs and hadn't made any yet with garden tomatoes. My mom and step dad got me Luke's Lobster Rolls with whoopee pies delivered to me for my birthday!!! Ate them along with the salad and fries Last night was fried chicken with roasted broccoli and Mac and cheese Freeze warning for tonight so went out and picked all the tomatoes I could.....I see fried green tomatoes in my future.

Tomato paste. They just recently started selling it. Odds and Ends is Misfits own "brand" or "label". 99 cents a can.

I may need a Cheez Whiz intervention 😳 In my defense, I DID give one to my mom.....AND Misfits threatened me and said it was my last chance to buy any.......

I screwed up and told Ronnie he could have what ever he wanted for dinner last night (we had a lot of my favorites over my birthday week). That always means he's going to choose chicken fried venison steaks. I reaaaaaaaaally didn't feel like frying anything last night, but I had to keep my word sigh lol. Stewed tomatoes, mashed potatoes and gravy to go with.

Hi everyone! Great looking meals all around! It's been a really fun 6 days for me. My mom drove 11 hours from Colorado to see me . Hadn't seen each other in over a year again. Due to life I wasn't sure if she would be able to get away and come at all but it happened! I made white bread and French bread to have on hand....... Quick dinner for Ronnie and I the night before she got here: Salad and chicken alfredo Sunday I puttered around while she drove--made a charcuterie board so she'd have something to nibble on when she got here Neglected to take pictures of dinner that night....too excited and wine ...and well, you know BLT's and fries that night. With a fig and apple crostata ??? Galette??? Anyway it was good for dessert. The next day was my 48th birthday--I can't remember the last time I was with my mom on a birthday so it was really special. Champagne --actually prosecco--to start the day off right😁 Second glass included pomegranate juice and blackberries I ordered some things from Goldbelly. Birthday dinner was lobster, ravioli and mushroom sauce with a salad and bread Didn't get a picture of my cake--same as last year. Boston Cream Pie. SO good. Tuesday I noticed that I had a bunch of lemons that needed to be used so mom squeezed a million of them. Froze a lot of juice. With the rest she made the most fabulous lemonade I've ever tasted. That night we had spinach, Canadian bacon and pepperoni calzones with a baked eggplant lasagna type thing--just baked eggplant, sauce and cheese Wednesday I brought the Ninja Creami out so she could have watermelon and cantaloupe sorbet. It was such a hit. She thought the Ninja was a lot bigger than it actually is (she has limited kitchen space) so she was excited to see that it was something that she could fit. AND it was Amazon Prime day. I had just seen on the Ninja thread that they were on sale, so she ordered one--$129. It'll be to her house on Monday. They eat a lot of ice cream and smoothies so I think she will really enjoy it. So EG enabled someone again 😬 That night I fried up some crappie. Tomatoes, okra, fries and cheesy cauliflower for sides. Last night ( the last night of her trip--house feels very empty now). Cucumbers, caprese salad and cheeseburger venison pizza Such a good week. Thanks mom for making the trip ♥️

They sent me an extra I think. We eat a lot of salad for lunch and some at dinner so it won't go bad for sure.

No figs available .....I bet they won't offer them again this season. Oh, and you can go ahead and judge me on the Cheez Whiz now. I have more than a person needs at one time. I can't stop myself.

THANK YOU!!!!! This was driving me crazy. And thanks to all that searched. I've never heard of these things. Apparently he puts them in every game type thing he vac packs. I'll give them back to him....makes me feel like I need to hurry up and eat all of these fish lol.

PS I'm so glad you know about Chi Chi's! That was the "nice" place that we went to also. They had really good fried ice cream....the only place I've ever had it.....

Yeah...lobster base. I had a cube of fish bullion.....it's not the same. Better Than Bouillon has a lobster base that should work really well. Don't skimp on that ...it adds what the dish needs in the sauce.

Ok. Thanks for your help! He's an accomplished fisherman--and he's been up there tons to fish so hopefully he's also a good fish cleaner, but I'll have the pliers at the ready just in case. I'll be frying! I can't believe there is an actual gadget that we, here on EG, have never seen. Maybe I should post in the what is this gadget thread......

Hi Kim Just a side note--you mentioned that you had been going back and reading old dinner threads to get some inspiration. I've started doing the same. I've started with the 2020 thread.....very interesting going back before the beginning of the pandemic. I've written down several recipes that I meant to do before so thank you for the idea! There used to be a restaurant in the big city called Chi Chi's. Definitely not authentic Mexican food, but we liked it--went there when I was young. Anyway, I always ordered the same thing--their seafood enchiladas. A flour tortilla stuffed with fake crab and tiny canned shrimp with Monterrey jack cheese and a lobster based white sauce. They cooked it on the plate you were served on and the sides were rice and refried beans. Here is a good copy-cat recipe . Don't try to fancy it up using real crab and fresh shrimp because it won't be the same Nooooo, I bought a tortilla press years ago that has never seen the light of day. It is this brand: They are smaller than the usual and very light and crispy.

One of Ronnie's buddies went fishing in Minnesota in August. Yesterday he brought some vac packed, frozen pike over for us. I just read this thread. I take it they are very bony....... Not sure yet what to do with it. Should I just fry it? Side note: What the heck is the orange thing in there? There's one in every frozen package. He told Ronnie it helps somehow keep the fish better or something????? Google wasn't helpful.

I didn't look at the date.....it's been in the freezer. I used veg. oil, not canola..... I think he's just weird. 😬

He loves lamb. I'm always the picky one.....sometimes it's too lamby for me.

I had never had merguez sausages before so I bought some from Misfits last month. I've been needing to break out of my food rut again.....so I found a recipe for Tomato, merguez sausage and cannellini bean summer stew I used RG cannellini beans (SO GOOD). I seasoned it with salt and pepper...and I added some okra (probably heresy but I thought it would be good and it was). Anyway, when I browned the sausages I had to have a taste. I loved it! I'm picky about lamb sometimes and this was GOOD. A bit spicy but not so much as to make your nose run. Took a bite over to Ronnie. He chewed and said "UGH it tastes fishy". I was shocked. I said "you mean like fish fishy???" He said "yep". Sigh. I don't taste a hint of fish. He ate it--said it was really good except for the meat lol. So, I'm disappointed. Thought I had found a new something to eat......maybe I should try a different brand?

@CookBotAs a side note, I remembered just now that I have ordered the kits through ETSY. Make sure that they contain all of the things needed, but it might be cheaper there.....

I'm definitely no expert, but the kits I've ordered are always with green leaves. @liuzhouwill know more I'm sure. No, they aren't cheap.....I think when I bought last they were a tiny bit cheaper, but like everything now, the price is higher. There are just two of us, so one kit makes at least 2 meals, if not 3. I go rogue and add chicken and tomatoes etc, though which stretches it out a bit more.

I got obsessed a while back, too. Maybe you can google around and find it cheaper, but I ordered this kit from Amazon . Good stuff.
