  1. Did you pressure cook the beans first?
  2. I'm glad it's not the other way around......I hope they don't stop service in my area like Imperfect did.....
  3. Thank you so much. It's .....not healing as fast as I'd like but it is improving so my stubborn self isn't going to the doctor. Do you have a Filson hunting coat? 🤣
  4. The way my life has been since turning 47 I think I'm in the same boat 🤣 Is the apple dessert a croissant type of dough?
  5. Happy Sunday!!! No ducks were gotten yesterday ......it's just so damn hot. The guys stayed here today to do some work around the house that I'm ever so grateful for. Our friend was supposed to leave early in the morning but has changed his flight to leaving this evening due to something popping up at work. So....this will be the last post for this trip. I vacuum packed and froze I don't know how many doves yesterday. Our friend is going to take some home with him along with some jalapeños from the garden. After doing the doves I made another muffuletta cheesecake using the Instant Pot . Our guest raved about it. I think it's over half gone. The guys grilled doves for dinner......so we had that along with an Asian chicken salad, roasted broccoli and Mac and cheese. I think we are all a little pooped.......especially Scout See you over here in December!
  6. I am definitely jealous and kicking myself for not seeing if our big city store had them. They didn't last Monday so I assume I missed the window if they did.
  7. Yesterday was much the same as the day before....lots of doves were gotten in the morning and then home around 1 pm to start working on projects outside. I cleaned a bit, rested my leg a bit....ok, well a lot lol....then around 2 I started on dinner. Salsa making was going to take forever because my tomatoes are literally the size of grape/cherry tomatoes. I blanched them all in boiling water and then put them in a cold water bath and peeled and peeled. Very tiny. I kept looking out the window for Fedex. I was supposed to have 2 Misfits boxes coming. They always arrive around 2:30....... Anyway. Salsa is our tomatoes and peppers and then our guest brought a Vidalia onion with him so that was used too. Also made a really trashy velveeta cheese dip with some homemade rotel that I canned the summer before this one. There was going to be guacamole until it hit my dumb ass that I had forgotten to take the avocados out of the fridge days ago so they would ripen. Sigh. I googled. There is a method where you wrap them in foil and bake in the oven for 10 mins at 200F Don't try this. It doesn't work. Moving on to the enchiladas. I had made the pork filling a while ago and froze it. Not exciting to look at so I didn't take a picture. Also made green tomatillo sauce back when Misfits had tomatillos....and froze that. I had grand plans to order fresh Hatch chiles ( and some roasted frozen ones) online. All was good until I got to the shipping prices. Holy crap. The cheapest was over $100 and that was like 3-4 day delivery. It's been so hot that that wouldn't work. So, canned chiles it is. I'm feeling pretty proud of myself by now. It's only like 4:30 and I am so ahead of the game! Got the RG beans done Even made a street corn side dish And then things fell apart when at 6:30 the Misfits boxes arrived 🙃Totally threw me off my picture taking. Soooo....the enchiladas looked something like this when done (older picture) I hurried and got the things that needed to be in fridge done....gotta do the rest today. The guys ate breakfast burritos again this morning. Those seem to have worked really well --they can eat them whenever they get hungry during the morning. I'm out of those now, so I will be making breakfast sandwiches or something later today. Teal season opened this morning but I'm told they haven't gotten any yet I'm also told that it's getting hot already and, as you can see, Scout is feeling it. And, yes, she is laying in a big patch of marijuana...in fact, they call it "the marijuana patch". The doves love it in there......
  8. I'm giving her extra snacks and hugs. She's actually doing pretty well. Napping a lot. Some days she doesn't seem to care...other days like today she's pacing a lot and looking out the window.
  9. You can be Lodge Manager.
  10. Sad little garden pick today
  11. Don't worry, we'll soon be back to onion dip from the Lipton package and pickle rollups 🤣
  12. I don't quite know where I got the pasta idea --for some reason I thought that's how it's traditionally eaten😳 It was good and like you said, the pasta sopped the juices up. Our friend is very very tidy and orderly. You could eat off of his garage floor. Us? Not so much lol.
  13. Happy Friday!! As you saw yesterday they had a good hunt. Then they came home and got right to work rebuilding parts of the porch. How they can do that when it's so hot I'll never know. I certainly couldn't. They weren't hungry for lunch so around 4 I set out marinated mushrooms, olives, spiced pecans, crackers and a selection of meats and cheeses. Our friend sent us the newest collection of hot sauces from the Heatonist--I think it was last year that I posted about that? Anyway, I had some frozen oysters and thought they would be perfect to test the sauces out on. I think those last 4 bottles are the ones that will send you screaming. Pretty sure they didn't touch those yet lol. I should do this more often....made a relaxing and fun dinner that I didn't have to stress out about. I ordered more of that cioppino from Phil's Fish Market via Goldbelly. Really good. Thawed it out in a big pot, another big pot of boiling water for the past and voila done. I made bread--that Grandma's French bread like I've posted before but that escaped the pictures (I did both that and two loaves of white bread for sandwiches a week ago and put them in the freezer --makes life easier lol) Some tomatoes....and the dressing is homemade ranch that I had already put out. Planned to slice some garden cucumbers to go with that but they were SO BITTER that I had to trash them. I picked two more today...maybe they will be better. It started lightly raining around 5 this morning. Very welcome rain for sure. We've irrigated our soybeans more than any other year. I don't even know if our dryland ones are going to make. The people across the road baled their beans for feed. Nice and rainy where the guys are hunting today, too. They said it's been so dry that the doves still fly around like crazy even if it's raining. Our friend opted for Mexican food this evening so I'm going to hang out for a while here, take a shower and then get busy.
  14. POWER IS BACK phew.
  15. For males only.
  16. Sigh. our power went out. I’m typing from my phone. Puts a major hold on my cooking plans and I haven’t had a shower yet and that makes me reaaaaally b****y.
  17. Breaking news: Scout is pretty proud of herself.
  18. Hello! Guys got up at like 5:15 this morning. Ugh. I tried unsuccessfully to go back to sleep. But, I digress. Back to yesterday: They took some pictures for us at the shooting house. I'm told it was in better shape than it was last year at this time. I think we had some bad storms that really put a hurt on it back then. Here is the food plot that is right in front of the building. They planted rye yesterday. While they were working in the terrible heat, I was nice and cool inside making food 😬 Breakfast burritos--now I don't have to make breakfast at least for tomorrow...maybe longer if they don't get sick of these. A decidedly not fancy dip for an appetizer. Although....I did go all out and put it in a bread bowl 🙃 Venison meatloaf for dinner. Lecter kept trying to dip his foot in the mix arrrgh. I'm going to stare at Wordle for a while and then take a shower.
  19. The ones we made last night were crunchy on the outside--crunchy in the good way--and soft on the inside and held together like they should. Mine soaked for longer than the recommended time, I wonder if that helped out? The guys were going to stop at a restaurant to eat, but it was packed so they opted to come home. Ronnie smoked a small pork roast the other day and I SV'd yesterday. They made themselves BBQ pork sandwiches. Not fancy, but they filled them up. And I didn't lift a finger lol.
  20. Flight lands about 10:30 this morning.
  21. I forget. Do you bake your potatoes first and then grate them?
  22. Good morning! Going to be another hot one today--93F for a high. I've been out to feed and play with the cats. I'm now sitting here watching the hummingbirds bombard the feeders. Scout got up at least three times over night and wanted out soooooo......it wasn't a very restful night lol. Last night's dinner that Ronnie helped me with. When I feel uninspired breakfast for dinner always comes through. Anyone ever tried these? My mom and stepdad bought a case of them for us--I think off of Amazon. They are really good. Nice that they don't take up space in the freezer. And, my lazy self doesn't like making hash browns from scratch a lot of the time.
  23. It's just cloth. A friend bought it for me years ago at a craft show.
  24. I love that you still like to see what's happening. I feel like a rerun lol.
  25. Happy Fall to the folks on my side of the world-- Happy Spring to those that are opposite!! Our hunter friend will be here around 10:30 tomorrow morning. He hasn't been here since the last time I posted on this blog. SO much has happened since we last saw him. I feel like I've aged at least 10 years (and I look like it too). Health crap sucks. Leg/ankle are slooooooooly getting better. If I didn't feel like there was improvement I would have gone to the doctor. It still hurts ...a lot more when I'm on it a ton. Grocery store about did me in yesterday lol. But, I'm hobbling along and it will get better. Something made me feel like decorating for fall several weeks ago even though it felt (still does) like the depths of summer. Thank goodness or else it wouldn't have gotten done after the Scout ambush lol. A few pictures to get you in the fall mood maybe: The poor garden....started out SO well. But then the heat hit and even though we watered the hell out of it, it just didn't take off. The tomatoes were mostly all the size of cherry tomatoes. I didn't can a thing which is so not like normal. But, considering all of my yucky stuff going on, it's kind of a good thing. We had such a banner year last year that I have a lot canned up in the basement yet so it's all good. Everything happens (or doesn't happen lol) for a reason I guess. Melons and cucumbers were good. As are the pumpkins!! Ronnie said he counted at least 50 big orange guys out there. Here's the patch: A baby: They look wilty because it's 91F out there right now. Ugh. COME ON WINTER! I haven't picked any yet because #1: leg #2: the guys are planning on doing some work on the front and back porches. So, as usual, it's dove and duck season now. There is hardly any water around because no rain and most ALL of the ponds have dried up. On our property with the windmill that I showed somewhere upthread Ronnie has been pumping water out like crazy to fill ours. That should make the ducks dive-bomb in there. We will see. So, that's the latest. I'm off to do some last minute things and figure out dinner for tonight. I wish I was better at planning lol.
