    Dinner 2023

Been trying to use up leftovers here and there....... New Year's Day dinner--based on lucky foods of course lol. I always think of @Norm Matthewswhen he skipped the luck and then shattered his ankle shortly after. I'd hate to think of how last year would have been had we NOT eaten lucky lol. Cole slaw--really good. I shredded less than half a head of cabbage and a carrot. Simple dressing of mayo, salt, pepper, vinegar and sugar. Fried chicken Smidge of scalloped potatoes Made a pot of black eyed peas, ham, my tomatoes and jalapeños. Monday I had a couple pieces of chicken that I used for piccata left so reheated those in the steam boy and made some pasta Last night I thawed out a couple of small beef filets and venison tenderloins Done in screaming hot cast iron with butter Baked potato, stewed tomatoes and green bean casserole on the side

They are my all time favorite. I recorded it and watched this morning. They were awesome. Simon looks amazing. But it was sad. No one in the crowd seemed to know the words. Back in the day girls would have been throwing undies on the stage lol. Did you freeze the lobster in the shell? I've never thought about doing that......

Thank you!!!! And I'm glad you had foie or else I never would have splurged......my gosh that stuff is good. I couldn't find goose foie gras, though. I wonder if that's everywhere or the places I checked were just sold out? Duck was just as good IMO.

    Dinner 2023

Snacky stuff for New Year's Eve. We were in bed before 9:30 lol. Couldn't even make it to the end of the Georgia game. Shrimp cocktail--shrimp from Misfits and surprisingly good. Deviled eggs and cheeses--one cheese was a lavender fennel goat cheese, also from Misfits and also really good. Duck foie gras that is entirely @Duvel's fault. Oh was it good. And I have many more servings in the freezer for future indulgence lol. NYE is also our wedding anniversary--23 years. These glasses were from my mom and stepdad to celebrate I made chocolate pudding for dessert Happy New Year Everyone!!!
  5. I have so many that I will bore you all lol. I was probably in second or third grade living high in the mountains of Colorado--this was in the early '80's. I had a boy friend. Ok we had crushes on each other so maybe I should say boyfriend but we weren't into that icky other stuff that goes along with liking someone like that lol. His mom was and still is, I'm sure, a great cook. Her mom owned a bakery that would open each summer during tourist season, but I digress. One morning after playing hard outside in the snow we came inside for lunch. She had made grilled peanut butter and grape jelly sandwiches. O M G. Sure I'd had regular grilled cheese---she and my mom both had the same grilled cheese maker. I can picture it. Black and square with a clasp thingy on the end that kept it closed while the sandwich "grilled". Anyway, the toasted, warm, gooey peanut butter and the jelly. Pure heaven. I went home and raved. I'm sure I drove my mom nuts about it lol. Same mom and dad always threw a huge party on Christmas Eve--very stressful for me because as the night wore on I was always convinced that Santa wasn't going to leave me anything due to me not being in bed! I was first introduced to a brick of cream cheese covered in jalapeño pepper jelly. One had red and the other had green. I thought it was so pretty and festive and OH so good with crackers. Around the same age the principal of the tiny school I went to had a party....don't remember why but it was winter and cold. Anyway, they made steamed whole, fresh artichokes (I had never seen these wondrous things before!). A ramekin of melted butter on the side.....the adults would tear off a leaf, dip it in butter, scrape their teeth down and discard the rest. My mom saw me staring and let me have one...which turned into I don't know how many before the principal and his wife chased me off because it was just for grown-ups. Being an only child and that I was always included in everything with my family, I felt entirely snubbed lol. To be continued........

My appetite still isn't what it should be. Nothing sounds good except for spaghetti and red sauce. Of course, Ronnie doesn't agree lol. Sooooo...... Night before last I did chicken piccata with lemon/butter/caper/garlic onion sauce and a salad Last night I made Stromboli. Salami, prosciutto, mushroom, pepper and mozz. Broccoli salad to go with
  7. I thought the same thing! Thank you @shain. Everything looks beautiful. I hope that peace can remain!

@Ann_T Oh your cooking is just amazing. The Christmas Eve halibut and crab and the prime rib and yorkies! YUM. @RaamoYour pasta looks heavenly. After eating so heavy these last few days, I'm craving something like that. @HonkmanBeautiful Christmas Eve meal. You too, @DuvelI love your Christmas tree. @TropicalseniorGorgeous tourtiere. Love the holly and berries on the crust. @weinooWelcome home and I'm glad you guys had a great get away! Pictures going to happen??? (hint hint lol) I want some of your ragu right now for breakfast. Covid is still with me. Cough didn't keep me up all night last night so there is improvement. Soooooooo freaking tired. Ronnie is better. I have 2 covid tests left...he is supposed to be at an important meeting on Wednesday so I'm saving them for him to take tomorrow. Hopefully he is negative. Anyway, I have shoved myself into cooking a bit. I mean, it's Christmas. And I can nap most of the day lol. My taste buds are pretty dull-can taste a bit, but anything spicy sounds good so Asian cabbage salad, Mac and cheese, spinach and hot hot hot wings. My plans were to go to town last Wednesday and pick up a few things that I needed--a few gifts plus stuff from the store but Mr. Covid stopped that from happening. So, I pivoted and ordered some shucked oysters. We both really wanted an oyster/scallop/clam chowder type thing for Christmas Eve. Would have been cheaper if I could have gone to the store but I'm thankful for being able to order online for sure! Sourdough that I had in the freezer to go with. Was supposed to have Ronnie's kids over for brunch on Christmas Eve day...I ordered some cookies-don't judge. My plan was to supplement with some homemade but that didn't happen. I was happy that we have these to munch on. Made it feel more like Christmas. I did rally and make homemade cinnamon rolls. We've both been wanting these for a long time. They didn't disappoint. Christmas morning I took a shower (I know, I know, a stunning feat lol) and we delivered the few gifts that needed to be given. Distanced, of course. We left them on peoples porches. After that I made a little brunch of sausage, cheese and jalapeño kolaches, scrambled eggs and mimosas Then a loooooong nap happened. Got up about 3. Took the little prime rib that I thawed and salted a few days ago out of the fridge to warm up a bit. Talked to my mom on the phone for a while which was nice Then made scalloped potatoes Have to show the perspective. Mom brought me this cast iron last time she was here. Still perfectly seasoned. Used to be my grandparents. The perfect size for us. I planned on making creamed spinach but not being able to go to the store plus my Misfits box that was supposed to be here Friday is lost in the universe so I am very limited on fresh veggies. Green bean casserole and stewed tomatoes to the rescue! Very happy with out the PR came out. My plate Ronnie's I got this cute rug from my SIL for Christmas. The good Dr. immediately claimed it for himself. He wanted to wish you all a Merry Christmas!!!

  12. Gorgeous set up!!!! I love it.
  13. Well shit. I'm so sorry. I hope it's mild and leaves quickly. If it helps like a tiny amount, you're not alone.
  14. Tell me you guys don't have Covid like we do!

Stop it. Now I'm going to have to splurge and try to get some foie for NYE delivered.
  16. Have a great trip!
  17. 😳 That is scaled down? I'm exhausted just reading it!
  18. We were going to have Ronnie's kids over on Saturday for brunch but that's been canceled due to our Covid situation. So, it's just us again I'll probably make a breakfast/brunch for us on Christmas Day if we feel like it. Prime rib for Christmas dinner. Oyster...or fish and oyster type stew on Christmas Eve. I don't think I'll make any cookies....not feeling up to it, but we've been craving cinnamon rolls forever so maybe those will get done. Have to make up two gift baskets and cards to drop off for his kids and in-laws which might not happen until after Christmas. I'm certainly not getting out before then I don't think. Thankful that we are warm and cozy and at home
  19. I do domestic turkey breasts that are DEBONED for 6 hours at 142.5F. I don't know how much of a difference the bone makes....maybe add another 45 mins?
  20. We've (and remember we are in Kansas where we don't get the stuff that people in bigger cities do) never seen doves sold commercially.

🤣 I love that you remember that! I got my Ramen a while back. I was dying to use it last night, but I need someone to translate the directions 🤣 The noodles are all in one package, but the others are in separate packages sooooo...I was confused lol. I certainly didn't want to screw up the best most expensive Ramen ever 😬
