Your Daily Sweets: What Are You Making and Baking? (2015)
Shelby replied to a topic in Pastry & Baking
I made 10 minute lime cracker pie yesterday. The easiest recipe on the planet lol. Don't knock it until you've tried it. It really is good. Kim Shook will back me up on that. -
Happy Tuesday, ya'll! I picked our first peas from the garden yesterday morning! First ever. I've never been able to get them to grow, but this spring must have been perfect for them. I've decided that it's very relaxing sitting down and "shucking" peas. My husband went fishing on Sunday and brought a bunch home. I think they were mostly white bass. Sooooo, fried fish, mac and cheese and peas.

OMG I can't imagine. I swear, you try a homegrown Kansas tomato and it would change your mind. But, if it doesn't, just send all those fresh 'maters to me

Nina--I wish my husband liked sardines...your pissaladière looks delightfully yummy. Anna--Mushroom ragu. I could dive headfirst into that pasta Gfweb--Lovely steak and I want a stuffed 'shroom. FauxPas--I've got to get some salmon. Yours looks wonderful. And your furry baby is adorable. Kay--I planted tarragon for the first time ever. It's just languishing in my garden because I don't know what to do with it lol. Your chicken dish looks good.....I like the idea of the potato crust. I'm sorry it didn't taste good. WE HAVE A TRIPLE CROWN WINNER!!!! I teared up at the beginning of the race and then I bawled like a baby when American Pharoah won. Simply one of the best days of my life. To celebrate my husband fried me some chicken. My plate looks a little sparse here....but it was really good.

LOL I'm not sure if they are east or west, but they are as big as hummingbirds. I swear you could probably breast one out and eat it

Revving up for the Belmont Stakes tomorrow....betting some today....we'll see if I can end my very cold streak. 'Twas finally a hot day so we had taco salads on Wednesday. Last night, venison burgers.

LOL, I truly thought that was some cut of rabbit. I've stared at it for a long time trying to figure it out. I finally googled. It sounds delicious!
-
ACK! Turkish Delight is one thing I've always wanted to try and never had the chance. Just like you, I learned of it in that book.
-
Carrots. I was very young. Watching Bugs Bunny cartoons on TV. He made carrots seem so damn delicious. I begged my mom to cut some up for me....... I took a bite. NOTHING like I imagined. Raw carrots still aren't my favorite thing to eat.
-
Rotuts--Your dumpling soup looks super good. I love dumplings. I don't get to eat them enough. Paul--I'm such a sucker for anything pasta. And with that yolk. OMG. FauxPas--You and Ann's halibut have been haunting me. I can't get it around here. I'm trying to sit on my hands so I don't order some online. Huiray--It's squash blossom time again! Yours look delicious. tdig--WOW, your ravioli look lovely. Enchiladas stuffed with the leftover crawfish for us last night.
-
Wow Nina! Impressive! We had chicken in hay upthread, now hay soup. Can you tell us more about the soup? I love the asparagus dish.
-
Paul--I guess I'm not a purist because that crab sandwich had me staring for a good three minutes. Anna--You're right. No words were needed to describe that lovely meal. You just can't beat soft eggs and asparagus. Faux Pas--That looks like delicious spring on a plate! MM--That paella looks so good.....monkfish is one of my favorites. Septic tank problems again. *pulling hair out* So, in between obsessing and begging a company to come out here, crawfish were obtained from the Asian market. A particularly mean group. They were very aggressive lol. Strawberries for dessert. The three on top with the stems still attached are from my garden. We've had a grand total of five. They sure are good, though.

I had no idea that restaurants prohibit ketchup I like both ketchup and mustard on my dog. And, I like meatballs in the above mentioned grape jelly/bbq sauce. I'm a heathen.

We realllllly like Ann's lemon pepper wings, so I made 'em again last night. I added a bunch of dill from the garden, too.

Ann--Your husband is a lucky guy Liuzhou--What a nice first meal! I would think it would be kind of hard to find untreated wheat straw......we have wheat planted this year...should be ready by end of June. But, I know it's been treated..... I, too, am very curious about the taste the straw imparts on the chicken, MM. I have never seen this before. Sure is a pretty presentation. Pizza night last night.

Interesting, Darienne! I've never heard of Smilax. I googled. The roots of some of the species are used to make root beer I was looking to see if they are found in Kansas and found this: http://www.kansasnativeplants.com/guide/plant_detail.php?plnt_id=576 Doesn't look exactly like yours, but similar? Lovely garden, Okanagancook! I saw something yesterday that I've never seen before. I hadn't been able to get into my garden for about 5 days to weed due to heavy rains. It was still muddy, but I was able to hoe at least. Anyway, in the morning when I was working the pea plants looked just like they have been. Pretty with sweet little white flowers. When my husband got home around 7 last night we went to the garden to sit for a minute. The pea plants had made pea pods. Long pea pods. In just like 7-8 hours. I was floored.

Spring onions from the garden. I'm sorry about your chives Have you tried finding them on the internet? I've had really good luck with Burpee mail order. Gurneys...not so much.
-
There is this strange, bright, warm and glowing orb high up in the sky......it might be the sun.......it's been so long lol. Enchiladas again. Sounded good. Need to use the cilantro in the garden. A little salad and some Rancho Gordo black beans on the side.

Nice chop, IrishJersey! Ann--as always, such a lovely presentation. Your bun looks amazing. Pork ribs on the smoker for us along with collards, scalloped 'taters and cheesy bread.
-
Thank you to all the men and women who served to keep us safe and free. You made the ultimate sacrifice for us. I hope everyone is having a great Monday! I know a lot of us are very soggy and storm-swept. I'm watching our river rise...and rise...and rise. When my mom was here she brought us some elk burger. Elk is one of my favorite meats. My husband grilled these burgers in a serious downpour. Probably not a great choice for dinner last night, but they sure were good On the side I fried some onions, mushrooms, asparagus and pickles.

Darienne, I never cut down my asparagus until the next spring. Let them bush out. IMO.
-
Very nice, MM. Did you use a balsamic type dressing?
-
Sooooo, I would guess the flour mixture was the winner? How did it taste? Will I be seeing this at the next State Fair?
