    Dinner 2015 (Part 3)

Rotuts--Your dumpling soup looks super good. I love dumplings. I don't get to eat them enough. Paul--I'm such a sucker for anything pasta. And with that yolk. OMG. FauxPas--You and Ann's halibut have been haunting me. I can't get it around here. I'm trying to sit on my hands so I don't order some online. Huiray--It's squash blossom time again! Yours look delicious. tdig--WOW, your ravioli look lovely. Enchiladas stuffed with the leftover crawfish for us last night.

    Dinner 2015 (Part 3)

Paul--I guess I'm not a purist because that crab sandwich had me staring for a good three minutes. Anna--You're right. No words were needed to describe that lovely meal. You just can't beat soft eggs and asparagus. Faux Pas--That looks like delicious spring on a plate! MM--That paella looks so good.....monkfish is one of my favorites. Septic tank problems again. *pulling hair out* So, in between obsessing and begging a company to come out here, crawfish were obtained from the Asian market. A particularly mean group. They were very aggressive lol. Strawberries for dessert. The three on top with the stems still attached are from my garden. We've had a grand total of five. They sure are good, though.
  4. I had no idea that restaurants prohibit ketchup I like both ketchup and mustard on my dog. And, I like meatballs in the above mentioned grape jelly/bbq sauce. I'm a heathen.

We realllllly like Ann's lemon pepper wings, so I made 'em again last night. I added a bunch of dill from the garden, too.

Ann--Your husband is a lucky guy Liuzhou--What a nice first meal! I would think it would be kind of hard to find untreated wheat straw......we have wheat planted this year...should be ready by end of June. But, I know it's been treated..... I, too, am very curious about the taste the straw imparts on the chicken, MM. I have never seen this before. Sure is a pretty presentation. Pizza night last night.

    Dinner 2015 (Part 3)

Just a plain old fashioned sharp cheddar
  9. Interesting, Darienne! I've never heard of Smilax. I googled. The roots of some of the species are used to make root beer I was looking to see if they are found in Kansas and found this: http://www.kansasnativeplants.com/guide/plant_detail.php?plnt_id=576 Doesn't look exactly like yours, but similar? Lovely garden, Okanagancook! I saw something yesterday that I've never seen before. I hadn't been able to get into my garden for about 5 days to weed due to heavy rains. It was still muddy, but I was able to hoe at least. Anyway, in the morning when I was working the pea plants looked just like they have been. Pretty with sweet little white flowers. When my husband got home around 7 last night we went to the garden to sit for a minute. The pea plants had made pea pods. Long pea pods. In just like 7-8 hours. I was floored.

There is this strange, bright, warm and glowing orb high up in the sky......it might be the sun.......it's been so long lol. Enchiladas again. Sounded good. Need to use the cilantro in the garden. A little salad and some Rancho Gordo black beans on the side.

    Dinner 2015 (Part 3)

Thank you to all the men and women who served to keep us safe and free. You made the ultimate sacrifice for us. I hope everyone is having a great Monday! I know a lot of us are very soggy and storm-swept. I'm watching our river rise...and rise...and rise. When my mom was here she brought us some elk burger. Elk is one of my favorite meats. My husband grilled these burgers in a serious downpour. Probably not a great choice for dinner last night, but they sure were good On the side I fried some onions, mushrooms, asparagus and pickles.
  14. Darienne, I never cut down my asparagus until the next spring. Let them bush out. IMO.

    Dinner 2015 (Part 3)

Very nice, MM. Did you use a balsamic type dressing?
  16. Sooooo, I would guess the flour mixture was the winner? How did it taste? Will I be seeing this at the next State Fair?
  17. Ohhhhhhhh Liamsaunt, could you be Shelby's Aunt and feed me one of each??? Especially that scallop roll. Heavenly looking.

MM-Love swiss chard. What did you stuff it with? Very pretty. Thanks for the link Patrick. I have it up and will be reading it soon. Dcarch--Picture perfect as always. I didn't know one could eat violet greens! Can you describe the taste? Good luck today, Liuzhou. I hope it's smooth and painless. Would love to see pics of the new kitchen Kay--I wrote to you on your blog, but I have to say it again. OMG I want that tomato cobbler. And the meatloaf. I definitely will be making your cobbler when I can get good 'maters. Mitch--OH those shrimp (shrimps?) look good. And the beans and rice. Ann--Lovely stir fry. I keep seeing people making that and I need to join you! Speaking of Ann, I used another recipe of hers last night. Swedish meatballs with mushrooms over egg noodles. I should have started cooking earlier so that the meatballs had more time to simmer, but it was still very good. Thank you again, Ann!

Rotuts--My Grandpa always likes a fresh green onion or three with his meal. I remember a dish of green onions often on the lunch and dinner table..always with salt. I guess I am following in his footsteps Thank you, Patrick! I've yet to try to make my own tamales. I'm betting yours are wonderful! Liuzhou--I have a lot of cilantro in the garden to use. I'll be googling to find that recipe. Nice brisket, Norm! One of my brittany's got sprayed by a skunk yesterday afternoon UGH. I feel so bad for her. Now I think everything in the house smells like skunk . She got sprayed right next to the house so ....yeah. I needed a comfort food breakfast for dinner last night. Hiding under the eggs are fried taters and steamed asparagus. The hollandaise worked this time. I can't remember which thread but some of us were discussing that we use the blender method for making it. I've come to realize that I don't think I was getting the butter hot enough to emulsify the sauce. When I do the butter on the stovetop the hollandaise works great. When I melt it in the microwave it fails and stays runny. *shrug* Could my microwave not be making the butter as hot?
  21. Awesome idea! Watch out, though, Pizza Hut might steal this and make double stuffed pizza crust...... Or, I might copy you and make that myself......hmmmmm.........the possibilities are endless

    Dinner 2015 (Part 3)

Happy Wednesday! Mexican for us last night. A little salsa made from home canned tomatoes from last summer. The jalapeño is the first from the plant in the garden --tiny, but good Chicken enchiladas

It's been snowing on my mom in Colorado, too. I feel sorry for all of you snow-getters I hope it stops soon!!! I love crab, Dejah, but what I really want is a couple of those avocado rolls. YUM. Nice sear on the scallops LiamsAunt and Smithy. I'm jealous of everyone's rhubarb! I was perusing through Ann T's website looking for dinner ideas and spotted her Lemon, Sea Salt and Black Pepper wings. Totally fit the bill. VERY good. Thanks Ann!!! Rice and greens from the garden to go with.

    Dinner 2015 (Part 2)

Happy Preakness Day!!!!!! (GO Firing Line) I wouldn't be sad to see AP win so we could root for a triple crown....... (sorry..I'll stop with the horse talk now ) In between storms yesterday I went out and picked some more spinach and collard greens. The greens are as tender as the spinach right now so I used both in a lasagna. Started with salad made from assorted lettuce from the garden and a couple of green onions. Then we moved on to the lasagna. I need to find a pan that is deeper, but around the same width. I always have an overflow problem.
