Your Daily Sweets: What Are You Making and Baking? (2015)
Shelby replied to a topic in Pastry & Baking
Aw, I'm glad you guys tried it I'm not sure why it didn't set up. Someone smarter than I can maybe help us. -
Inspired by LiamsAunt, we had pork lettuce wraps, fried rice and spring rolls. I tried to pick the biggest lettuce from the garden but it still was kinda hard to keep the meat in. Very good, though.

Ah ha! I see. Thanks for the info. I'm a Kansas girl who only has experience with lakes.

How lovely! I'm off to read your blog. Is that little boat being towed by the big boat? Or is someone napping in the little boat and I can't see them?
-
LOL, yeah, no playing the ponies...... I need to go rototill and I'm half afraid to do it. A lot can go wrong around power tools Asparagus, ham and mushroom quiche for us.

FauxPaus--Your caprese is SO beautiful. Almost to pretty to eat. Almost Do your crackers have bits of dried fruits in them? Maybe cranberry? Ann--OMG I want that salad. Kay--That "swineapple" (LOL Ashen I loved that!!!) looks great. I've never been a fan of fruit with meat, but I could definitely get on board with this. I'm thinking about a bacon/pineapple/jalapeno combo?? ThanksForTheCrepes--Oh No!!!! I'm so sorry to hear this. Will your eye recover? I'm glad it was mild, but ugh. Big hugs from me to you. Luizhou--Thanks for the pic of the stand. I don't think it looks unsanitary at all! It looks like just the perfect place to get some great food. I'd go for the pig ear for sure. YUM. You guys ever had a week....or two when 10 million things go wrong? I'm having one lol. I have broken windows (well I didn't, but the wind did), backed into something and broke my husbands taillight ( I ordered a new one and installed it myself. Thanks to the guy on YouTube), computer cord almost started a fire while plugged in--it burned my outlet, too (and Apple knows full well of this problem and yet they still won't fix it so $75 later and singed outlet I'm back and running), septic system has failed and will need to be replaced in a month after we harvest the corn, and while mowing I ran over a main hose to the garden and shredded it. Oh, and my mailman just backed into a vehicle parked in my driveway and dented the hell out of it. Knock on wood, nothing else can go wrong right? lol Thus, my meals have been boring. BUT I've been inspired by LiamsAunt and I think I'll make lettuce wraps tonight. Thanks for letting me vent lol.

How I love reading through a topic like this. Hearing about everyone's life experiences and past generations. My grammy LOVED apricots. I wonder if she ever got to taste a truly fresh picked one like Rotuts and Thanksforthecrepes have. Count me among the crowd that gets immense satisfaction knowing that I've got food stored. I really like knowing that on a cold, snowy day I can have a taste of summer. You guys all know that I'm a big canner and "put'er-upper" ( I have never heard it called putting food by before--I learn something new here all the time ). Kansas summers can be brutally hot and humid, but that sure makes for some good homegrown tomatoes. Tomatoes are the one thing that I grow that I never ever have found to be as tasty elsewhere. Even another Kansas garden....their tomatoes taste different than mine. Now, mind you, they would probably say THEIR tomatoes were the tastiest. I guess I like my soil. I try to can over 100 quarts of 'maters a summer, but that doesn't always happen. This summer is looking good, though. I use a lot of my peppers, onions, basil and eggplants to make spaghetti sauce that I freeze. I used to make huge batches of salsa and can that. I haven't done that for a few years. Maybe I'll have enough to that soon. I pickle a lot of cucumbers and can them up. We still have 4 quarts left from last year, so we best get to using those up because I'll be crocking cucumbers soon. I canned some wonderful Colorado peaches last summer. I hope I can get some more this year. I'm down to one quart. I have sand hill plums--a lot of them. They are not like regular plums--they are pretty sour. Folks around here make jelly out of them. I've not done that (yet)...we aren't huge jelly eaters. I could babble on and on about this topic but I'll shut up now

Lovely garden, Elaina! I really need to get into mine and do a bit of weeding.......but it's too muddy.

Liuzhou, I just love shiitake mushrooms. Great flavor. FauxPaus, pasta and fresh cherries. Looks sooooooo good. MM, it all looks great as usual, but those figs grabbed me. I'm a fig nut. I'm not complaining but we need a tiny break in the rain over here in monsoon Kansas. We got 3 inches over night--some place close to us got 5-7 inches. My yard is a jungle lol. I was able to get into the garden to pick a bit, though. Salad is all from the garden except for the tomato. A little shrimp pasta primavera....alfredo.....combo thing lol.

Ohhhh LiamsAunt, your drinks and that platter YUM. I love food like that. Huiray, yep, it's squash time again Yours look wonderful! Liuzhou, I am patiently waiting for my okra to grow here. Until then I'll stare at yours Last night we watched some horse racing and had chili cheese dogs. Can't beat that

Picked our first yellow squash yesterday. So, I sautéed the squash and had that along with ham, asparagus and cheese in puff pastry with an egg and hollandaise on top.

We have tons of mulberry trees here on our property. I used to pick them and use them in pies, but they are so much work. A lot of them have these tiny worms in them that are a pain to get out. Are your trees sprayed? What do you do with the berries?

My "dad" used to take leftover rice and stir in cinnamon and sugar and milk. Makes me shudder to this day. I'm glad that people enjoy it but it's not my thing.

Fries look a little limp.

I can't wait to see your new garden! I'm surprised with all of your wonderful farmer's markets that no one does peas. You need to get on those farmers! I've learned my lesson. I need to plant the spring plants way earlier than my brain is ready to. Like March-ish. It just gets (normally) too hot in the spring for the peas, lettuce etc.

Your Daily Sweets: What Are You Making and Baking? (2015)

Yes, that's the exact recipe I use. Lower salt crackers would definitely work. Be sure you let it sit in the fridge for at least 8 hours. The crackers take on a cheesecake type texture. The pie is pretty sweet so I wouldn't put any cool whip, but it would be good if you want it -
I've never seen morels like that. Do they smell like the regular ones?

I made 10 minute lime cracker pie yesterday. The easiest recipe on the planet lol. Don't knock it until you've tried it. It really is good. Kim Shook will back me up on that. -
Happy Tuesday, ya'll! I picked our first peas from the garden yesterday morning! First ever. I've never been able to get them to grow, but this spring must have been perfect for them. I've decided that it's very relaxing sitting down and "shucking" peas. My husband went fishing on Sunday and brought a bunch home. I think they were mostly white bass. Sooooo, fried fish, mac and cheese and peas.

OMG I can't imagine. I swear, you try a homegrown Kansas tomato and it would change your mind. But, if it doesn't, just send all those fresh 'maters to me

Nina--I wish my husband liked sardines...your pissaladière looks delightfully yummy. Anna--Mushroom ragu. I could dive headfirst into that pasta Gfweb--Lovely steak and I want a stuffed 'shroom. FauxPas--I've got to get some salmon. Yours looks wonderful. And your furry baby is adorable. Kay--I planted tarragon for the first time ever. It's just languishing in my garden because I don't know what to do with it lol. Your chicken dish looks good.....I like the idea of the potato crust. I'm sorry it didn't taste good. WE HAVE A TRIPLE CROWN WINNER!!!! I teared up at the beginning of the race and then I bawled like a baby when American Pharoah won. Simply one of the best days of my life. To celebrate my husband fried me some chicken. My plate looks a little sparse here....but it was really good.

LOL I'm not sure if they are east or west, but they are as big as hummingbirds. I swear you could probably breast one out and eat it

Revving up for the Belmont Stakes tomorrow....betting some today....we'll see if I can end my very cold streak. 'Twas finally a hot day so we had taco salads on Wednesday. Last night, venison burgers.

LOL, I truly thought that was some cut of rabbit. I've stared at it for a long time trying to figure it out. I finally googled. It sounds delicious!
