Thank you!!! Not really any plans. I just wanted to see if I could do it and then plum bushes are loaded this year. I made a comment this morning that I think it would be good mixed with something and slathered on ribs. It's tart/sweet.

Eggs around here got up to almost $4/dozen but now have come back down to $2.50. I'm not sure why. I haven't bought any for quite a few months, though, because I buy them from a wonderful girl down the road. I hope her chickens stay healthy!

I made a recipe from Kim Shook's site. She is my go-to woman for any kind of baking. She never ever fails me. Thank you, Kim!! Cream cheese pound cake. http://www.recipecircus.com/recipes/Kimberlyn/CAKESandPIES/Cream_Cheese_Pound_Cake.html She says the recipe is from someone here named Shaloop. I've never had the pleasure of "meeting" him or her, but the pound cake is spectacular.- 487 replies

I went out on our property and picked some Sand Hill plums yesterday. I decided to try to make jelly for the first time. I was nervous that I'd end up with syrup, but it set up nicely. The trick is to pick a lot of not quite ripe plums along with the ripe ones. The not quite ripe ones contain a lot of pectin. This recipe is super easy--no pectin needed. Plums I couldn't resist taking a picture of this juice. Such a pretty color. This is after straining through a tea towel. All done I'm off to pick more plums. I now am obsessed with jelly making lol.

Ann, you always make me crave pizza. Dejah, your lamb chops look sooooooo good and I'm not even a lamb fan. Gfweb, I LOVE that big burger. Turkey wraps, fries and garden veggies for dinner last night

Looks like a kohlrabi to me.

This is so pretty! I had to google what it was Did you fill it with a custard or a jam?

Went out on my property and picked some Sand Hill plums this morning. Going to try my hand at making some jelly later.

The tomatoes have officially grown taller than my 5' self. They are loaded this year. Crossing fingers that we will have tons of these lovely guys in a few weeks. Silver Queen corn is on! A baby watermelon. I don't think he's too happy. We got over 2" of rain yesterday. Hopefully we're coming into a dryer spell.

These two cute little guys from the garden became eggplant parm for dinner last night. I also made some sausage and spinach manicotti. Neither were photogenic, but they tasted good.

The upside is you'll have some for a cooks treat

Picked a few more okra (okras?) yesterday so I needed to eat them I had a batch of duck, goose and andouille sausage gumbo in the freezer so I thawed that out, made some greens and topped it with cornmeal fried okra. Heavenly.

Those muffins look delicious.

I was commenting to my mom (and I think on the gardening thread here) the other day about how beautiful the okra flowers are. I'm glad others share the same view. This is a picture from my garden. Please excuse the Sevin dust lol.

Elaina! They could be twins My Newman has a little more fluff around his cheeks, but boy they look alike! I just finished dinner and am full, but I think I could eat that whole salad you showed. The watermelon radishes are so beautiful. How do they taste? I didn't do radish this year as it seems we really don't eat a lot of them and they get so hot tasting. Those beets are what have me drooling. I really really like the long bowl that you use to serve. Any way you'd tell me where that came from?

Oh thank you for sharing this!!!!! I was authentic and I didn't even know it . When you harvest it early enough for the corn not to be tough, the kernels are not nearly as big as regular corn...but I honestly think field corn is tasty and I don't notice any starchiness. I'm not a huge corn lover, but I can't wait to eat that street corn again. We had a storm yesterday and it knocked out our power for several hours. So, I decided to make something that could be easily made by flashlight and on top of the stove (yay for gas burners). However, the power came back just as I was beginning to cook so all was well. Brats with mounds of caramelized onions and mac and cheese

We have a lot of deer, too, but they haven't eaten anything (yet) this summer. I have tracks all through my sweet corn patch, though. My mother-in-law used to hang soap bars up. She said it worked. Deer also hate the smell of mint. Maybe a few containers placed strategically around? I tried a blood based spray a few years ago. Didn't do a thing but make my garden STINK. I've seen scarecrows that are motion detectors that squirt water when they "see" movement. Might be worth a shot?

Yep, some of it is for livestock. Some of it gets made into things for human consumption. Some of it gets made into Mexican Street Corn

My husband traipsed to the field and snagged a couple ears of corn (field corn). It's tender enough to eat now. In a few days it will be tough, tough tough. I wanted Mexican food....so I decided to make a recipe that I've wanted to try forever: Mexican Street Corn. http://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2013/07/mexican-street-corn-elotes-recipe.html This was SO good. I want to make it again. I don't think my husband liked it as much as I did. He's a corn purist lol. Venison steak enchilada with Hatch chili sauce that I made a froze. Freezing it didn't calm down the heat any. It was SPICY hot.

It's just so lovely LiamsAunt! (I'm sorry you had to go through cancer...I'm glad you're better now). Please send Mr. Hedglhog over here. I can keep him full of poison ivy for months lol. I know some don't do chemicals, but if you do, try some Sevin dust on your eggplant. I get bugs too....and grasshoppers seem to love the hell out of them. Sevin helps.

Sounds like my husband and I. I like to savor. He likes to eat and get done and move on lol. I love marinated mushrooms. And, I spy some nice green onions to be eaten with salt up there

My Great Gramma Susie always grew okra here. I have a memory of going to to help pick. I was little. The plants were taller than me. This is my first year growing it myself. I don't know why I waited so long. I did equal parts of self rising flour and cornstarch seasoned up with salt and pepper then I mixed a light beer in until the batter was not too thick, but thick enough to leave a trail if you spooned some and drizzled it.

Don't make me get in the car and drive up there, ladies. I dunno how long it is from Kansas, but I'll do it (just making sure you're ok )
