1/3 cup olive oil 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lime juice 4 tablespoons red wine vinegar 3 tablespoons honey 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon black pepper I don't pre-chop the cilantro. I throw all of this in the food processor and whiz it up.

Don't feel guilty! I'm glad things are pretty normal for you and it makes me feel better to know that some people and places are doing great

Ha ha! I bought this today at the store Told myself that I'd wait to eat it until Memorial Day for a treat to look forward to. That plan didn't work out.

Took a few pictures of the garden. This was early Wednesday morning. Well, not super early. You can see that big round hay bale in the back. SO so so blessed that our farmer brought that over for us. We would have had to track some small bales down somewhere, load them etc. He just dumped it off the back of his truck. Easy peasy. I wish it could be like that every year. Just came in from spreading it all around the tomato plants. We have soaker hose down under the straw. Glad to have that done. The straw spreading is my least favorite chore.

Arrrgh. I feel your pain.

Oh damn! We have squirrels but I was just coming on here to post that they never dug up the asparagus here. How frustrating.

Your Daily Sweets: What Are You Making and Baking? (2017 – )
Shelby replied to a topic in Pastry & Baking
I would give just about anything for a donut right now. ANYTHING. -
A few more radishes were ready yesterday. I think I'm going to plant some more in a a week or two....if it doesn't get too hot. More pak choi and asparagus and a nice bunch of peonies

Yes! At the farm--I was little but have very distinct memories. I'm sure nowadays one would be in trouble if a little kid like myself was around the equipment. They had a huge walk in cooler that they stored the bouquets in--they were put in a sort of plastic wrap and then they had a string-tier machine ( they even let me do that a few times). And yeah, they were kept for Mother's Day and Memorial Day. My mom and others sucker-budded the zillions of peony bushes. They had a great time .

Thank you so much! I love flowers, I just have no patience to plant them every year, unlike a food garden that I really enjoy. But, these peonies are my pride and joy and I've worked very hard on them. My mom worked at a peony farm when I was little and it sparked my love for them. I wouldn't say peppery, although the red colored ones, now that you say that, do have an undertone of that. Peonies smell very sweet, but not sickeningly so. I frankly don't really like the smell of roses....and peonies are nothing like them (not that I would ever turn down roses ). I wish they would bloom all summer long, but then, I know that maybe they wouldn't be as special to me

Crawfish boudin, garden asparagus, poached egg and taters First radishes and lettuce from the garden Made some more oxtail ragu--oxtails were plentiful in the grocery store. Sauteed radish greens on the side. Sorry for the blur.

Oh it's so easy! I tossed asparagus (non-blanched) with salt, pepper, some garlic slivers and a bit of red pepper flakes (optional), put it in the dish, drizzled with heavy cream and sprinkled with fresh parm and some slices of racelette cheese and maybe some mozz. cheese (can't remember lol)--any melty cheese would work. Bake at 400F for about 20 mins. Put oven up to broil for a couple of mins. if you want to brown the cheese up a bit.

Nooooooo.....just the news that there is a new steam oven would cause him to pale. 🤣

You're a brave woman. I haven't broken the news yet to Ronnie.

@Kim Shook I love lasagna soup. Need to make that soon. I like to use campanelle pasta--a little easier to eat but yet still curly edges like lasagna noodles Lemon roasted chicken quarters done in the CSO with potatoes roasted under the chicken. Asparagus gratin to go with.

I put the seeds straight in the ground. Quite a few of them didn't sprout....the seeds are so dang tiny they are hard to plant. I think I got some of them too deep in the dirt.

It doesn't take much to get me excited--especially now during this time. I bought a new (to me) seed this year Pak Choi . I love this stuff. We can get it at the Asian Market. I didn't think it would grow but it did! It's super fast growing. I wish I had planted more. I think we have one more meal out in the garden still. I bought more seeds today, but I think it might be too hot to plant them over the summer. Maybe I'll try in the fall? Also some peonies and asparagus in there

Thanks Kim

@Kim Shook I've been meaning to answer your goulash question for days now and then the thought flies right out of my head. I kind of just throw things together. Onions and garlic cooked down until soft. I've taken to buying jars of roasted red peppers so I chunk some of those up. Tomato sauce from my canned tomatoes whizzed in the food processor. Some kind of beef bouillon--either the cubes or those little tubs. A few splashes of worcestershire sauce (don't leave that out, it's a must). Salt/pepper/hungarian paprika . Cooked macaroni. It really hits the spot when I'm craving it. If I have any leftover veggies such as green beans or corn, I throw that in too.

I am hopefully (knock on wood) done with having to leave the house for at least a week. I hate leaving the house sigh. Went to two different smaller towns around around me this morning. One was to go to the nursery. It is about 50 degrees and pouring rain again today so I figured I'd be the only one there. I was right. But, they had barely any thing for sale. Mostly flowers to plant. Some tomato plants (which I didn't need). I was able to snag 3 eggplants, 2 dill, 2 basil. All the plants are tiny so I'll let them get a little bigger in our greenhouse before planting. They had no cucumbers so I bought another pack of seeds (we have the worst luck trying to start cuke plants in the greenhouse...no idea why, but we will try again). I also splurged on a treat--a hanging basket of really pretty, bright flowers to hang outside my kitchen window. Makes me happy looking at it. Needed something cheery. Then we went to the grocery store in a different small town because I needed to pick up one of Ronnie's prescriptions. While I'm there, I always grab some groceries. Not too many people in the store. Most had some type of homemade mask on, including me. I brought my own wipes for my hands and the cart. Very low on eggs. I bought the last brick of sharp cheddar. You were limited to 2 meat products so for example you could buy one whole chicken (of which they had a total of 3) and a package of hamburger and that's it. I snagged a pack of 3 chicken quarters (left the remaining for someone else) and 1 whole chicken. No paper towels, I didn't see any TP. No 409 or clorox anything. Ramen noodles were back in stock. Fresh produce looked good. Just got a lot of potatoes in so I bought a bag of those. Oh and they had limes....kind of sad looking, but I bought some anyway. I feel a nap coming on.
