  1. Granny Smith (green) apples are tart and hard. The apple flavor are quite intense.
  2. I deep fried them for the first time last night. WOW! they lose that somewhat root-y taste and become really sweet. My oldest daughter who normally picks gobo out of her dishes couldn't stop eating these. I served them with a horseradish-mayo dip, though they would have been fine sprinkled with just salt. ← This reminds me of Yucca Fritas or Fried Yucca. How about a fried gobo stand in Tokyo???? Of course you will have to come up with variety of dips. Sure will put the Belgian frieds guy out of business!

    Enjoy New!

they have the teriyaki burger, but it is actually a pork patty. I have never seen a teriyaki chicken sandwich before... ← The Micky D's Teriyaki Burger is the Shogun Burger in Hong Kong. I ate 3 of those everyday while I was there.
  4. Can't tell you what I like but do hate and will not forget Corn Flakes. So bland and the corn sticks to you teeth. This outdated product has no right to exist in today's highly demanding culinary world.
  5. I think some of these mountain vegetables are used for eastern herbal medicine.
  6. I still think Granny Smith is best for apple pie.
  7. Torakris...You're a tayta chips junkie!!! The tiger and dragon chips look mighty yummy!
  8. Holy smoke!!! These pics are good enough to eat!

    Collard Greens

Sure u can. My mother used to salt them with a bit of vinegar for couple of days. She then chopped it and stir fried it with pork.
  10. The warm water actually helps to make the noodle al dente...It reduces the time of stirring in the hot skillet.
  11. My friends ma greases her pan with butter when she make panjeon. Any of your here tasted kimchi panjeon??
  12. I think the Starbucks Frappacino is more nasty than the canned stuffs from Japan. It is like coffee flavored sugar water and that's lotsa sugar!
  13. Those Fuji Riingo are huge!!! Are you sure they didn't juiced that them with steriod?
  14. Is this a cult for moon cake??

    Guinness

You are absolutely on target, here. Guiness has dumbed down its taste for the US market which, by and large, prefers tasteless beers (despite some of the clever ads which might suggest the contrary). Samuel Smith's, Young's and St. Peter's are three brewers from the British Isles that make far superior stouts to Guiness, in my opinion. ← Right on!!!! Guinness sucks in the States. It can be worst if you go to a bar that doesn't not move their Guinness on tap-it smells very pissy.
  16. Ahh brings me back some memories, I was in a Taipei elementary school (East Gate Elementrary) for a semester back in 1982 and was shocked at the fact that they have your lunches heated for you. Realize that there were 4000 kids going to school there so it must of been a huge steam room. I guess that's chinese culture for you since they never ever like hot dishes served cold. I also had the pleasure of having Japanese school lunches while I went to school, back in the day. The menu rotated between western and wafu lunches, which ultimately meant, you either had rice or bread as the main starch. Most of the classmates and I always looked forward to the curry, cream stew, or spaghetti days. It was very much frowned upon to leave any food since the teachers still had memories of the time after WWII when they had little or no food to eat, so they made sure that we were greatful for all the food given and the teachers were not going to allow any food to go to waste. I also remember having had my only ever whale meat served during a Japanese school lunch and remember it being very good. That's all I remember from my Japanese school lunches. I also had American school lunches and looking back at it now, I realize that the Japanese school lunches were much healthier with more variety and more appetizing than the American school lunches, as many have posted. ← I went to a catholic school in Taiwan and all we ate were Chicken a la King and weird beef stew over rice. The cooks are Filipino. Once a month we get fried chicken.

    Okinawa

..No, so be sure to let us know what happens when *you* try it! Ok, last night I had a goya salad! This white goya is slightly less bitter than its green counterpart, but if you don't like the regular goya you won't like this one either... I mixed it with a cucumber and some cilantro then dressed it with nampla, lime and sugar, a squirt of sriracha made it even better, it was quite adicting and I could have made a main dish out of it maybe with some fish or chicken added. ← That looks awesome. The Cantonese stir-fried their bitter gourd with rib tips or beef in oyster sauce. The Taiwanese prefers it in soup with rib tips or salad. The Nonya (Malay-Chinese) stuffed it and coat it with black bean sauce.
  18. Use it to cook if you think it has slightly passed it shelf life.
